‘Wall Street Isn’t Really Their Audience’

So what if Tim Geithner freaked out Wall Street to the tune of a 382-point Dow dive? Wall Street wasn’t really his audience.

That, according to Andrea Mitchell, is the Obama administration’s defense of Geithner’s universally-panned performance on Tuesday. Mitchell appeared on Morning Joe today. It was David Gregory’s “who’s-in-charge-here” question and Joe Scarborough’s ripping of Geithner’s claim that he’d only been there two weeks that prompted Mitchell to speak up for the Obama administration.

Next time I’m in a jam, I’d hope to have an advocate as passionate as Andrea. Watch 38 second into the video, as Mitchell can barely contain her eagerness to speak “in their defense.”

During the 2008 election cycle, 60 percent of the donations made by employees of the top Wall Street firms went to Democrats.

She's a reporter who happens to be married to one of the culprits that drove our economy into shape it's in today. She might have some opinions about the situation, but she should not be allowed to make them public. After all, she's a reporter of the news, not a news maker.

How much money, in terms of dollars, was lost in a 382 point drop in the dow. If the dollar value removed from the economy is greater than $850 billion then that single speech has removed any up side that the entire porkulus bill might have, while retaining all of the down side caused by the excessive debt we will be forced to take on. And this is no big deal?

As an answer to my own post above the value lost to only those companies involved in the DJIA was somewhere around 142 billion dollars. Now remember that the DJIA is only 30 companies traded on the NYSE. In 2000 there were 3066 companies on the NYSE. So the actual hit to the economy could be very much larger than any amount of pork can make up for.

I don't care what anybody says - this is going to be a different depression than the last one. You have to be making $20 an hour to keep your head above water now (whereas in the last one, lots of stuff was a nickel), and the disadvantaged classes don't have the deep Judeo-Christian background anymore - it's been trained out of them by the government skools.

Gunpowder, meet match.

See, the Andrea Mitchell types don't get it. Andrea probably makes about $1000 an hour (@ 2 million per year). Even at half that salary, she'd be hauling in 25 times an hour what the schlubs need to stay afloat. That's not counting her hubby's cash, either.

So, she's not going to riot in the streets if things get tough. Andrea and Alan would probably just skip the $70 bottle of dinner wine, and throttle back to the $30 a bottle cheap stuff.

Yeah, Andrea and Alan can REALLY relate to us peasants...
