Prince Harry has become embroiled in a new race row after allegedly telling a comedian, Stephen K Amos, that he did not "sound like a black chap". Mr Amos has claimed that the Prince made the remark when they met after the stand-up show We Are Not Amused for the Prince of Wales' 60th birthday celebrations in November 2008. Mr Amos, from south-west London, made the disclosure on Five's The Wright Stuff on Tuesday.
He told presenter Matthew Wright that Prince Harry, 24, congratulated him on his performance before saying: "You don't sound like a black chap." As Mr Wright looked on in disbelief, Mr Amos added: "I wanted to say, 'How is I supposed to sound?'" Asked if the remark had been made in jest, he replied: "I hope it was."

Whatchu talkin’ about, Harry?
I don’t know why, but this young prince just tickles me. He speaks his mind, he’s a hero soldier who wanted to help and not endanger the lives of his fellow soldiers, and I think he’s more handsome than William. Poor William is practically bald in his 20’s.
What the Prince really said is “You don’t sound like a claptrap ol’ chap”
If he had been here, he might have become VP for such remarks....
it is just the naivete of somebody who has been sheltered too much and too long from normal people.
Nobody's laughing at what Harry said.
Speak for yourself.
That’s what I think too. I don’t see him as a bad person, he just genuinely doesn’t know the social cues for political correctness.
I don’t see the problem here because Amos didn’t sound fazed by it.
It’s not like the Prince said ‘Whazzup, nig**! Damn B*cthes don’ give me props. Gonna pop me for 4-0 before the 5-0 come round’ my crib, y’hear?”
Beg to differ. Serving in the Queen’s military is NOT being “sheltered”! Not “normal people”? well, perhaps but I prefer those folks myself. Thanks!
Kingfish(o’Bama) is getting hisself exposeinated..
And what does Harry’s brother Andy think of Amos?
Joe Biden makes unfunny stupid comments about race and he’s gone pretty far.
“gee you don’t sound like other african american blokes”? ;)
C’mon UK, Harry is just a kid...
Harry Reid said something allegedly “racist” recently and he is what 90 yrs old?!! And a US senator at that...
Well, if race is really of no consequence, then the remark should not cause any eyebrows to raise. Noting racial characteristics without attaching any positive or negative value to them ought to be perfectly fine.
A black person could easily say to a white person, “You don’t sound white on the telephone” and the white should not have any offense, right? And the converse should be true.
A worthy successor to his famously blunt and politically incorrect grandfather.
That was when my buddie said “I was bussed to a school that was 98% black in jr. high and through high school”.
I was standing on a subway platform one day, listening to a group of teenagers of various cultural backgrounds behind me. I turned around to see that the the girl who was the loudest and sounded most ghetto was Chinese or Filipino. Fo shizzle, mah nizzle!
p.s....At least she told me she was white.
“...and I think hes more handsome than William. Poor William is practically bald in his 20s.”
Well, they probably had different fathers don’t forget.
Telling a black Chap he doesn’y talk black is just rude its not political correctness to not say that. I don’t think Harry meant anything by it or the Paki friend comment either though.
And to be perfectly honest, black men and women have a grainier texture to their voice. It isn’t about ebonics or hip hop slang, it’s about the tone of their voice.
Most of the time you can tell if you are talking to a black or white person on the phone and neither has an accent or speaks English any different than anyone else.
Noting that does not make me a racist and it doesn’t make Prince Harry one either.
Yes, I see no resemblance of Harry to Charles. I can see Charles in William though.
...or someone who just doesn’t give a damn.
He’s the only royal I like. Drinks. completely un-PC. fought in Afganistan.
He is a doll. He does his won thing and keeps stepping in it.
To go tattling about it indicates quite a lot about this "comedian". Sort of like the joker that turned in Phelps with his likeness smoking something or other.
In 1821 a prize fight took place for the championship of all England. The Bristol Butcher, Bill Neate, refused to hit his smaller opponent. Bill Hickman was so bemused after his thirty second rest, following his severe knockdown. He came out trying to adjust his belt. Hazlitt, the essayist, claimed that "this is the high heroic state of man". Refusing to hit a helpless man, was what he meant. Of course, Hazlitt, drew some derision for his statement.
Old England is no more, I am afraid.
A black person is offended. Stop the presses!
The PC nazis strike again.
Truth is, I remarked a few weeks ago that it was quite easy to differentiate between black callers from non-black callers on the talk radio shows, even though we can’t see them.
I grew up colorblind, in an upper middle class suburb with oriental and black neighbors, and it is only now that I am becoming what I have to admit is bigoted. Mainly because of what I perceive as black racism toward whites.
I spend several weeks annually in the miserable melting pot that is the UK...rarely do I encounter a colored person: east indian, caribbean black, senegalese, or what have you, that speaks unaccented english. the young prince was truly paying the man a compliment. there are not very many blacks in the country with cambridge english. this is obviously a tempest in a teapot that this comedian is using for publicity. fortunately for harry, he is independently wealthy, never has to worry about being king, and can and will tell the press to f-o.
He should have just called him articulate and clean.
Spoken like a true coward. Political correctness will be the end of us all.
Well, when “blackness” is thrown in our face all the time what does one expect?
Black History month.
Miss Black America
Historical Black Colleges
Congressional Black Caucus
etc, etc, etc....
Gee, Mr. Obama. You don’t sound Muslim!!! Damn, I hope he’s not offended./sarc
I believe mr. amos misunderstood.
The prince didn’t say “you don’t sound like a black chap.” He actually said, “you don’t sound like your back(side) is chapped.” Meaning of course the “comedian” didn’t sound like a poofter.
Completely understandable mistake.
You mean white princes can’t say things that blacks can say to any white person? Are there no exeptions?
I thought it was about Harry Reid. Maybe he was going to join the US Special Olympic team with Biden
The PC Police are chasing him down. He’s too masculine and free for them. They want to neuter him.
I like the kid.
“Thats what I think too. I dont see him as a bad person, he just genuinely doesnt know the social cues for political correctness.”
Perhaps we should all be more distressed because we DO know the social cues for political correctness.
Minority groups make stereotypical comments all the time, and they’re given a pass.
You ignorant, insensitive HAIRIST!
I demand that you be sentenced to 40 hours of Follicular Diversity Training! Following that, you will make a nationally-televised formal apology to all Persons of Exposed Pate.
Let's see those tax returns while we're at it too. [/s]
We need more like him.
The way to defeat political correctness is to have the courage to laugh derisively at it.
Slightly insensitive I agree, but in America blacks do their best to sound different than whites and I have seen black comedians make fun of the way whites talk. I have yet to see anyone get offended by that. I fail to see what the big deal is. Some blacks talk like whites and some don't. Pointing it out or commenting on it shouldn't brand someone as a racist. It's just stating the obvious.
