The stimulus package the U.S. Congress is completing would raise the governments commitment to solving the financial crisis to $9.7 trillion, enough to pay off more than 90 percent of the nations home mortgages.
I want to get a T-Shirt that reads “I voted for Obama and all I got was a lousy 13 bucks a week”
We get nothing? Dang, I knew I shouldn't have voted for Obama.
“There is also a $70 billion, one-year fix for the alternative minimum tax. The fix would save some 20 million mainly upper-middle-income taxpayers about $2,000 in taxes for 2009.”
The above is from the article. I was just wondering what defines upper-middle-income.
What was the little phrase that all teh dems used when W dropped mareginal rates...”This rate cut is equal to a Big Mac.” or something like that.
I believe the Alternative Minimum Tax hits a taxpayer when his/her income hits $100,000 or so and also when that person of that income level takes what the Gov't considers too many deductions.
They've raised the income levels which is good but it should have been done in a different bill.
Maybe when that movie first came out. $13 won't cover popcorn and a soda now, much less the movie. We don't go much any more. When we do we go to this new "Majestic" We pay a little more and get the good seats. Very nice with waiters and waitresses who get you refills on popcorn and sodas. Puts a Lazy-boy recliner to shame complete with a little side table to put your food on.
“Help is on the way” needs to be followed up by “If you have a job, you will take home $13 more a week. If you have a job of course”.
Scroll down and look at the chart:

Don’t worry. They will take it back in the future.
Wow I worried all those months about being on the top 5%.
$13 a week is a joke. Let’s see 10 employees multiplied by
$13. Woohoo $133.00 a week less in payroll taxes. Gee thanks 0.
Pocket change you can believe in
The way gas is going, it will buy a gallon!
Hmmm. I don’t really pay attention to my taxes, but I make quite a bit over the 100,000 and I claim head of household with 11 deductions during the year, and at tax time write a humungous check. I probably take too many deductions, but I like getting a bigger paycheck and just paying it back in April. I should probably pay more attention to this kind of stuff, but I’ve had the same accountant for 15 years and I trust him. I guess I could be paying this AMT.
Thanks for the chart.
Suppose the $400 break is paid out from sometime in June (as stated in the article) until the end of the year. Maybe for 31 weeks?
I didn’t think it was that low either.
No wonder why the GOP was really pushing for it a while ago.
That literally is HOPE and CHANGE, isn’t it? LOL.
That will just about pay for the increase in gasoline prices I guess.
