BISBEE — U.S. Border Patrol agents working west of Douglas arrested 77 Mexican nationals after camera operators identified them crossing the border on Saturday evening.
This is the second apprehension of a large group of illegal immigrants in the same area between Douglas and Naco, Ariz., in the past two weeks, Tucson Sector spokesman Mike Scioli told the Herald/Review on Monday. On Jan. 26, 53 illegal immigrants were taken into custody at one time.
Again, the effort was the result of a coordination between agents of the Douglas and Naco stations, along with Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine. The latter provided a helicopter during the operation, which began around 6 p.m.
The chopper’s search light was instrumental in keeping some of the individuals in view, according to the Border Patrol spokesman.
“The group explained to agents that the smuggler instructed them to cross the fence at the same time in an attempt to overwhelm Border Patrol resources,” states a press release.
Scioli said members of the group who were captured said, “The smuggler told them we (the Border Patrol) couldn’t catch them all if they ran.”
However, again the agents were able to position themselves strategically to contain the group, “and even though some ran, we got them all,” Scioli said. Whatever direction they took off, they “eventually ran right into an agent.”
According to the Border Patrol, this incident is an “excellent” example of how that agency’s operations and strategies have become more effective across the Tucson Sector.
“The proper mix of technology, infrastructure and manpower are rapidly proving that that individuals entering our country illegally are unsuccessful regardless of their methods,” states the press release.
Scioli added it was camera operators who initially spotted the illegal immigrants approaching the border fence, giving the agency time to marshal the forces to apprehend them once they entered the United States.
Agents in the sector stopped 60,189 illegal immigrants from October to January.
The individuals were transported to the Douglas and Naco stations for further processing.

Traditionally we capture about 10% of the illegal immigrants passing through.
Worked on a ranch that has the international boundary as the south fence. Every nite we took every battery on the place and locked them in the barn. In the morning, the first task was to place the batteries back in the trucks and tractors. The border is a mess. When will the people and the government act in a meaningful manner to defend this invasion?

Bud, you have my deepest sympathy, and ultimate shame for what is taking place down there. It’s embarrassing to be a U.S. Citizens who supports the rule of law and our Constitution these days.

What I wonder is when they are ‘processed’ what does that mean? Do they just assemble and make their way back?
Generally that has meant that they are apprehended and released at the border, to try again.
I doubt anything has changed.
But the MSM and government said they were all heading back to Mexico because of the bad US economy.
Another bogus lie from them. They still want all the free healthcare and education.
If they were given a one way airplane flight to Tehuantepec in Mexico’s Southernmost border the attempts to cross again would quickly come to an end.
Instead, they’re probably transported to Tijuana or just across the border making it easy for them to try and try again.

Meanwhile, in further news, nobody was available to stop the 500 pounds of marijuana and cocaine carried across the border just 5 miles further west of last night's event.
That's actually worth asking - I'll pass that question on to Bill Hess today. I know that in the western part of the Tucson sector (Nogales, Sells, Ajo) that crossers are being locked up for up to 6 months prior to court hearings and adjudications, then deportation. This automatically makes them felons when they come back into the US.
It's a zero-tolerance policy that was instituted last summer. I don't know if it is also happening here in the eastern part of the Tucson sector (Douglas, Willcox, Bisbee, and Sierra Vista).
