Jane Fonda returns to Broadway after 46 years
The Telegraph ^ | 2/10/2009 | Caroline Hedley

The septuagenarian actress is treading the boards in a production of 33 Variations, Moisés Kaufman's play about a woman investigating the creative genius of composer Ludwig van Beethoven during his "later" period.

Jane Fonda now, and in 1968 when she appeared in the notorious Barbarella

Ms Fonda was last seen on the Great White Way in 1963, when she performed a critically-acclaimed turn in Eugene O'Neill's Strange Interlude.

Speaking about her return to Broadway after a 46-year hiatus, the 71-year-old said she looked upon her new play's four-and-a-half month run as an "adventure". "That's how I choose to think of it", she wrote on her blog. "I could be real scared. I mean, eight shows a week after 46 years!

But I am choosing to think of it as a challenge."

Ms Fonda's passionate belief in the concept behind Mr Kaufman's play - that creativity can flourish in one's later years - convinced her to take a "leap of faith" and accept the lead role.

She was writing a book about ageing when the script was presented to her.

"There's this chapter I'm writing about how you can look at Beethoven, you can look at Matisse, you can look at Cezanne, you can look at so many great artists who did their best, most profound work later in life when they were physically challenged", she told theatre website Playbill.com. "This play arrives. I read it. It's not an easy play to read. But I knew that there was something about this that was really different, that was calling to me", she said.

The 33 Variations cast, which includes Tom Hanks' son Colin Hanks and Grey's Anatomy actress Samantha Mathis, are honing their performances with a month of preview shows at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre prior

She, sir (and or madame as the case may be) is a traitor of the highest level. Why she is not in prison is beyond my understanding. I can only believe that she is not in prison because of her parents influence.

As far as her acting ability, I can’t see beyond her treason, a treason that caused pain and suffering to my military brothers because of her alignment with our enemy

It will seem quite familiar to anyone who keeps track of today's anti-military leftist agitprop.

The old antiwar celebrities, the ones who made a nice, comfortable career of self-righteous posturing, the William Ayers's, the Bernadine Dohrns, the Jane Fondas - they are sitting back bathing in self-congratulation thinking that they won. But they're starting to look behind them a little because it isn't over and we haven't gone away. They've had the microphone and the press all these years but we're still here and they can try to ignore us but they can't shut us up.

Fonda is a traitor, a vicious, malevolent ideologue, an unrepentant harpy whose "apology" consisted of "they didn't need to hear that." But we did hear that. And we have been hearing that. And a dishonest, dishonorable, self-seeking, sanctimonious, and evil coterie of journalists, celebrities, and academics has succeeded in poisoning the culture such that a ridiculous creature such as Barack Obama can actually be considered legitimate by the desperately credulous.

But we'll survive this too. It isn't over, and we will never forget. Never.

She was writing a book about ageing when the script was presented to her.

I think I will write a book on aging, it will contain this information, gleaned by experience: "Every year that passes, while you live, causes you to get one year older, eventually you will be old! There is nothing you can do about it. ". So, do you guys think it will sell?

They misspelled aging BTW.

You walk into a room, mention Jane Fonda, and things start flying. Why don’t you throw things at the bird-brained policy makers who made that war? They let her go so she could take the heat and deflect it from them.

Where did you come up with BS like that? Do you also believe that Cheney flew the planes into the Twin Towers via remote control?

Jane returning to Broadway is a sign of the end times.

II Timothy 3:1-5,7 “But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of god; holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

That abut describes Jane to a T.

No, it was THIS comment: "...They let her go so she could take the heat and deflect it from them..."

I suppose you have someone one the inside who told you it was a policy decision by the US Government to "let her go" in order to somehow take the attention away from the war?

No matter how brain dead you or anyone else thinks the government was at the time, that is a dubious claim, and that is being polite.
