Shepard Fairey, the controversial street artist riding a roller coaster of publicity with his red, white, and blue posters of President Barack Obama, was arrested last night on his way to DJ an event kicking off his exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art.

A Fairey who has been arrested 14 times. Throw in some tax evasion and he’ll make a fine addition to the cabinet.
He’ll probably be heading up the National Endowment for the Arts within a year.
Is there anyone associate with Barry who doesn’t have a criminal record? Really.
The article makes it sound like he was arrested for outstanding warrants for acts of graffiti. If this is so, it will all just play into his hands.
Institute of Contemporary Art
I took some of my students there one night, and was pleased that they reacted as I did to the horrible displays—with mockery, to the point that the guards at this “rebel art” station were watching us suspiciously. We weren’t being disruptive to other viewers, but were obviously shaking our heads and smirking at the displays of trash (literally, TRASH), oversized photos of Drive-Thru fast food restaurants, and piles of sewing needles.
The best thing we saw in the new, ridiculously pricey and ugly museum? There’s a large window through which you can see the ocean. We all agreed this was the most beautiful thing in the place.
Surprisingly, there was one piece of art inspired by 9/11, and I must give credit where it’s due, it was the best exhibit in the place.
Jail’s the perfect place for a Fairey to have a gay old time! No need to feel sorry for him!
Is that near where the Channel used to be?
Sues For Copyright Infringement on Obama ‘Hope’ Posters (Eating their own)
“Like yeah man, I know he’s fu... er trashed up a lot of buildings all across a number of cities and states, but he’s cool man. Like it’s important to say what you will when you will about what you will on someone elses home er business. Like those walls and buildings are way more important now, ya know. It is hard to sell those homes for more than $500 because the art is so dynamic and important and all. The businesses areas are run down, a lot of them have closed, but that’s the price you pay as an artist you know. And now he’s arrested, so you can tell he’s really dedicated to painting other people’s property you know. Like this really speaks to me.”
GAWD!
warrants are warrants, but I cannot help but think the timing of this arrest is directly related to the AP issue, whether by simply drawing national attention to him or beyond that.
Yes, within walking distance, over by the NE Aquarium. It looks like a giant styrofoam box.
A nod to creative humor.
None that I can see. Some just have not been convicted as yet.
A very talented artist, to give the Devil his due: I’ve admired and enjoyed his work for a few years now. “Obey Giant” was huge in New Zealand, particularly when it was picked up as a counter-culture statement against the Nanny State of Helen Clark.
(now *there’s* a surprise, ay!)
If he’s been arrested, no doubt he’s guilty of something.
Just another commie.
So what you’re saying is he’s a talentless Commie who has a lot in common with Joe Biden.

Is there anyone in Obama’s circle who is clean?
Obama is demented weirdo. Everyone in his sphere of influence is a criminal or a communist.
That’s not an either/or proposition.
Thanks for that link — I will read it thru in detail after tea (I’m getting nagged because it’s getting cold).
From a cursory glimpse it appears the 3 authors of that piece object to Shepard Fairey’s use of derivative artwork and passing it off as his own — which they believe to be plagiarism. Have I understood that right?
I’ll need to give that some thought (I used to sell art once-upon-a-time).
My initial reaction to that is “Duuuuh. Anyone could tell that what he does is derivative and is not original artwork.” It is what he does with what he derives that makes it art.
What he appears to be doing is taking something and putting it into a different context: like Warhol did with the Campbell’s Soup tins, or like what April Wine did with “Satisfaction” and “Day Tripper” in their own tune “I Like to Rock”. Both the Warhol and the April Wine examples are valid pieces of art, even tho’ they borrow heavily from others.
Anyrate, those are my immediate reactions — I’ll read the entire piece carefully after I eat and reconsider based on what I see in the article.
Gotta go!
Zero himself is a crack-smoking homo. Arrest him, too.
Definitely Supreme Court material.
Well you know this already, but I had to post it to augment your post:

Makes me sorry I tune into those jerks to watch "Monk".

Back in the 80's, us Dallas wannabe hipsters used to dance to this ska hit by the Special AKA without having a CLUE who and what Nelson Mandela was. It was just "cool". I see similar here in the seemingly brain-dead responses of these young people to Fairey and his arrest "for his art". They have never felt the boot of an authoritarian dictatorship, but those old propaganda posters sure had bright and pretty colors!
Oh, don’t you worry, I was working feverishly to point out to the kids how communists and Nazis used ugly art to push their agendas.
What the heck was he arrested for? Moreover, he has been previously arrested 14 times?!
Next, this man's "art" is nothing but Communist and Fascist propaganda garbage.

No wonder Obama and his thugs liked him.
Translation: "Dumb ass commie"
$500.00 to see this chump? I thought this was the worst depression ever , ( Bush' s fault of course), and people are spending that much for this?
I liked this Boston " art " better.
Ironically, the revolutionary coup has succeeded without firing a shot. The socialists have taken power with slogans and posters.
I doubt somehow that Fairey would enjoy a real, third-world revolution where a country is taken back by force.
Your position is a legit one, but the argument about this guy’s stuff is he never credits the artists he’s stealing from AND he’s making money off of his “borrowing”. Also, someone who knows art as you do is probably aware of the sources of his material, but I’d wager most of his fans would be surprised to find how derivative his stuff is.
Nice private, police state warrants, nonetheless. Who's knocking at my door.....
I had a lot of good times at the Channel.
I Tivo most of my entertainment and skip through the spots, but I did see the ad and felt vomit coming up into my mouth.
Gee, I never realized that having outstanding warrants was such an artistic achievement.
He is one of USA Network’s people with “character”.
“Nice private, police state warrants, nonetheless. Who’s knocking at my door.....”
You are right, I hadn’t caught this the first time around.
