The US Senate should strip a "Buy American" clause from President Barack Obama's economic stimulus plan, the chamber's top Republican said Monday amid anger at the restriction from US allies.

"I don't think we ought to use a measure that is supposed to be timely, temporary, and targeted to set off trade wars when the entire world is experiencing a downturn in the economy," said Senator Mitch McConnell.

How do you feel about the bank bailouts and previous “stimulus” programs?

Hey, you’re so “buy American über alles”, tell me where I can have metal pieces finished in Tenifer or Melonite or a similar product in the US.

That they were not necessary or at least the amount. Cut spending and lower taxes is the only stimulus that is needed.

In other words, McConnell wants Obama to allow free traders to send your big bailout tax dollars directly to manufacturing in places like Brazil, China and England—the nations that won’t allow their citizens to buy American-made stuff. LOL!

McConnell looks like he drinks formaldehyde

The “buy American” part of the bill is the only job stimulus in the whole bill.

The GOP is going to burn on this anti-American stance....they will probably leave in all the spending in the bill

"When exactly was it, Republicans became such complete idiots??"

...during the late-'60s and early '70s. But they only devised their trade and employment plans under the direction of their favorite paying constituents and communist enemies. Then Clinton did most of the really fast implementing of their plans, although each president since then did have a hand in it. ...quite a community of business interests and politicians, no?

Umm...yes that about sums it....McConnell must prefer our tax dollars to be sent to Communist China and other countries.

The guy who came up with “Free Traitor” could not have been more accurate

Promoting trade is hardly “anti-American”.

My company exports most of its products. Do you really believe it is a brilliant idea that every country should buy domestic? It works both ways.

“The GOP is going to burn on this anti-American stance...”

-

Yup.

Ronald Reagan must be rolling over. There is a segment of the GOP which seems to believe that destroying the jobs of Reagan Democrats is somehow smart.

Every Reagan Democrat whose job is sent overseas, will never vote Republican again in their life. An entire generation of patriotic, pro-2A, antigay, gung-ho hard working middle Americans is being turned into Democrats.

By ... Republicans. They’ll never again vote GOP.

Ever.

It is madness for Republicans, to say such stupid things.

What’s the application? How do you know that you need something as hard as tenifer? What’s you plating thickness requirements? Specifications? Etc.?

Since this stimulus crap is going to pass, we have a choice: Do we give businesses this money and let them still be private businesses, or does the money come with strings attached, or do we just flat-out control the businesses that accept the bailout money?

Do US businesses that rely on cheap imports fold up and die? How does that help US employees?

Do we allow this money to go to non-American interests in order to sustain the companies that rely on them?

Is it unAmerican to spend money on foreign goods and services?

Firearms, or something bigger? There are Melonite coaters all over the place. Yahoo should make short work of that inquiry...

"Starting a trade war in a recession is stupid on steroids."

Our "trading partners" have been in habit of blaming America for their domestic difficulties for a long time. Even with our own impending inability to buy, they'll blame Americans in general for starting the trade war that they started long ago. ...not to mention their many barriers in place all along against buying many products from us.

We have plentiful and varied natural resources in the USA. If we behave as the best of our fathers did, we'll win.
