Unfortunately, Ms. Hudson has yet to learn that the National Anthem is not all about her.

Both she and Faith Hill lypsynched their songs.

Minor said Hudson was very calm and prepared, and he counseled her to take the deep breath before she began so she could put herself in the moment. Although entertainers can perform live, Minor insisted that Hudson and Faith Hill, who sang “America the Beautiful” before the national anthem, use the tracks the NFL requires them to submit a week before the game.
“That’s the right way to do it,” Minor said. “There’s too many variables to go live. I would never recommend any artist go live because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance”
I don’t know, that was pretty monumental for her. I mean this is the first she has done anything since her wacko brother in law killed her whole family, including her mother.
She didn’t sing. She flapped her mouth while a previously recorded, endless version of the national anthem played on the PA system.
Why do they do this?
The American Idolization of the nation continues on schedule.
She has a beautiful voice, and she may be a very nice person. She had a great tragedy last year. However, I stand by what I said.
I must be living in a vacuum....I’ve never heard of her.
Did anyone catch the the game where Martina Mcbride sang the National Anthem? Wow, she can really belt it out!
So that it can be digitally altered to make it perfect.
That statement was pretty out of line
Personally, I didn’t care for her performance. IMO, a jazzed-up, soul train interpretation leaves a lot of be desired and even detracts from the nature of the anthem.
The news that this and Hill’s performance were pre-recorded lends just one more level of superficiality to the entire made-for-media advertising event.
I’m glad I switched channels after only a few plays. I understand it was a close game though, which often isn’t the case in these big games.
The National Anthem was presented with respect and given a great performance at a major American Sports event, what the heck is your personal problem?
No you are wrong, the National Anthem is about her, and you, and me, and all Americans, and it certainly represents our Troops. So what the heck is your personal Problem?
Maybe so, but it appeared to me that she was drawing the attention to herself and not the subject of the song.
I hope so because to give him a platform such as the Super Bowl would have been too dangerous in my opinion.
Probably would have b*thced about his Wal-Mart deal, Rush Limbaugh and hating America.
Move on Bruce. Just like the songs you sung last night your fans are conservatives, not the new generation. Guess you agents figured that out when they put together your show.
BTW, despite your political “intelligence”, I actually thought the half-time show was one of the best I have seen in 10 years.
I was so shocked and awed by General Peterus flipping the coin. WHAT A GAME!
In what way?
I thought she did a fine job... much better than what Faith Hill could have done, yet not quite Martina McBride.
How about, Jennifer Hudson’s version of the National Anthem was a lovely piece. Pre-recorded or not, it was her version and I think it was done very well.
To time the fly over just right.

All she did was sing the National Anthem, how did you get that she was drawing attention to herself??
Jennifer Hudson’s version of the National Anthem was great, she did good!
I doubt it. He yelled out something about "going to Disney World" at the end of his set, and since this was NBC, and Disney is ABC I'd figure they wouldn't go for that.
I'll have to take your word for it, that it was a good Springsteen half time show. I will not give him the benefit of my eyes and ears upon him. :)
It looked rather like the 0bamie Bowl to this viewer.
Olbermann, Springsteen, 0bamie, lypsynchers, etal.
Yes ... real super duper.
The game was good though.
As for the presence or absence of "personal Problems" on my part, I was tempted to reply, but will not reply, with upraised middle finger. I simply point out to you that this forum is about the exchange of ideas and opinions, not personal invective.
Thanks for sharing the Cactus Cuties.. they really did sing the National anthem well.
Someday -— someday -— maybe someone will sing our National Anthem the way it was written. Note for note, word for word and keep the personal theatrics out of it. This talented young lady may have a beautiful voice, but let her voice shine -— not HER interpretation of our anthem.
And while I’m showing my fogeyness, I would like to see all this half-time stuff (which I dislike intensly) get back to marching bands!
Actually, I think American Idol really does speak to the heart of what America is all about.....Joe Average with a bit of talent, some hard work and a dream.....looking for a shot to prove he can make it. They don't hand the title to these folks, they sweat for it.
And it's a bit of a lose-lose, isn't it? Have a bad live performance, and people are all over you. Pre-record, and people are all over you.
I disagree. I had exactly the same reaction to Hudson's rendition. It was yet another American Idol-type opportunity for the vocalist to show off. The pathetic thing is, that it takes heck of a lot more talent to play it straight. But folks watching on TV think she is doing a great job.
Not that you can blame Miss Hudson for that. She is just following the current trend.
The National Anthem should sound like a national anthem. This version, with the moody clarinets, strings, and key change after key change, sounded more like a Barry Manilow ballad.
“She didnt sing. She flapped her mouth while a previously recorded, endless version of the national anthem played on the PA system.”
So what if she didn’t actually sing it and she lip-sync’d? What’s the big deal? I don’t see why this even made this blog. Well, actually I do...
I do not think that Jennifer Hudson did some outrageous "artistic interpretation" of the National Anthem...that is my opinion. Maybe you can post a you tube video of how you think the National Anthem should be sung.
The answer to your question is below.
Minor insisted that Hudson and Faith Hill, who sang America the Beautiful before the national anthem, use the tracks the NFL requires them to submit a week before the game.
Thats the right way to do it, Minor said. Theres too many variables to go live. I would never recommend any artist go live because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance
They don't want any "wardrobe malfunctions" during the National Anthem. Nor any "Roseanne" grab your crotch and spit incidents. That kind of crap gets amplified all out of proportion and control in the media echo chamber, and above all else, the Super Bowl is about marketing. Anything that detracts from that mission is verboten.
One can not “do good!” One can do “well” Let’s try to watch our adverbs please!
“She is a good singer. What kind of singer is she? A good singer. She sang the song well. How did she sing the song? She sang the song well!”
The look on her face was not one of.."it's about me"...but one of facing the reality that she is still a human being with tears to shed and heartache.
Her voice is beautiful, and she interpreted the National Anthem a lot LESS than a lot of others in the past.
The National Anthem is about courage, conviction, and steadfastness, it reminds all of us that we share values not found anywhere else on this little rock.
Let me join in your fogeyness.. I too miss the traditional Marching band half-times, and hate that during College games the Half-times are never seen , and talking heads babble, and commercials run rampant.
Yes, I agree.
I've learned over the years that John Q. Public doesn't have a particularly discerning ear nor taste in music for that matter. Music and television procuders are well aware of this too.
Which is no criticism of Ms. Hudson's vocal abilities, btw.
I know that, I did that on purpose. haha.
So you didn’t watch last year’s super bowl either.
Or the Giants Greenbay game?
Why not just admit you’re just not that into football.
I got up when it was obvious that Hill's version was going to suck. I could hear the two of them in the back ground, but I wasn't listening intently. All I can say is that I went into the kitchen and cooked a turkey...when I came back, Hudson was still singing.
Oh, I fully admit it, in fact alluded as much in an earlier post.
So??
There are some really gruntled folks on here today.
(well, nearly every day)
She has a beautiful voice.
She suffered an unspeakable tragedy, and I wish her well.
LOL! precisely..
OTOH, Martina McBride walked out on that field in Pittsburg, in front of a national TV audience and 80,000 people, with nothing but a pitch pipe, and belted it out live. That is a whole ‘nuther level of talent, right there...
