Octuplets’ mother wants Oprah to turn her into a $2m TV star
timesonline.co.uk ^ | Feb. 1, 2009 | John Harlow

THE single mother of octuplets born in California last week is seeking $2m (£1.37m) from media interviews and commercial sponsorship to help pay the cost of raising the children.

Nadya Suleman, 33, plans a career as a television childcare expert, since it emerged last week that she already had six children before giving birth on Monday. She now has 14 below the age of eight.

Although still confined to an LA hospital bed, she intends to talk to two influential television hosts this week - media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and Diane Sawyer, who presents Good Morning America.

Her family has told agents she needs cash from deals such as nappy sponsorship - she will get through 250 nappies a week over the next few months - and the agents will gauge public reaction to her story. A veteran from the ICM agency said: “If she wins over Oprah or Diane Sawyer, she will have the world at her feet.”

In a normal world she shouldn't get squat but she probably will hit the big payday courtesy of the same people who gave us President Orgasma. I think that was her whole idea from the start.

the irony of this woman: (from what has been said) is working on a graduate degree in counseling, has worked as a psych tech, and has a BS in child development, and yet would appear to me to have psychiatric problems.

many people might like to have more children, but the reality of having to pay ever increasing taxes to support other’s lifestyles, impacts our own lifestyle and we choose to not expand the family.

if everything that has come out is correct, she has problems, the doctor that did the IVF has problems.

one question i have, (if the taxpayers are paying for it, it is their business), who is going to pay the millions for the month-long hospitalization?

what about the other 6 kids that she has?

the whole story is really strange.

True story..I had a part time job 15 years ago to sign up welfare recipents on free dental. I had a table outside the welfare office. The main complaint was that it was not free enough! These people should not be allowed to vote. I quit it after a week. There was a truck that came selling Lobster and Filet to people pulling up in Caddilacs and cashing in the food stamps. W-4 Revolt. 15 exemptions. Cut em off and let em try to collect...over. Better than a strike. A Taxpayer Strike. Eliminate AFDC NOW! You coldhearted Bitch.

Nadya Suleman, 33, plans a career as a television childcare expert . . .

Based on the accounts I've read, her mother is the [involuntary] childcare expert. Ms. Suleman is just an expert at child production, a much easier task.

Here you go.

"While her daughter recovers, Angela Suleman is taking care of the other six children, ages 2 through 7, at the family home in Whittier, about 15 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. She said she warned her daughter that when she gets home from the hospital, "I'm going to be gone."

Her daughter's obsession with children caused Angela Suleman considerable stress, so she sought help from a psychologist, who told her to order her daughter out of the house. "Maybe she wouldn't have had so many kids then, but she is a grown woman," Angela Suleman said. "I feel responsible and I didn't want to throw her out."

"She told me that all of her kids were through in vitro, and I said 'Gosh, how can you afford that and go to school at the same time?"' she added. "And she said it's because she got paid for it."

Nadya Suleman holds a 2006 degree in child and adolescent development from California State University, Fullerton, and as late as last spring she was studying for a master's degree in counseling..."

I’m not a psychologist but I’ve read where some women LOVE being pregnant cause of all the attention they get. I bet she is one of them.

I read on Yahoo where the grandmother of this breeder has told her that once she gets home from the hospital she is going to leave and let her daughter handle all those children by herself.

I wonder if these 8 (actually 14) will knock “Jon & Kate plus 8” off the air?

It appears that you've discovered the 'dirty little secret' of a number of folks in the mental health professions. They may have problems of their own, but they want to help others. In the process, they can screw people up badly.

I’ll ask that question. It’s unethical for an IVF clinic to implant/transfer 8 embryos.

What do suppose the odds of that are?

Yup. I can’t imagine too many soccer moms wanting to take parenting advice from a single woman w/12 children. The ethical issues alone re the in vitro would make her a unlikely candidate for TV stardom.

Most newborns use about 8 to 10 a day. Of course, that is for the normal weight range of 6 to 7 pounds at birth and 12 to 15 pounds at 3 months. Possibly the newer, more absorbent plastic diapers are more effective than the all-cotton diaper-service ones we used back in the 80s. And newborn octuplets are probably in the 3 to 4 pound range, if that. Still, it doesn't sound like enough.

Who is going to change all of them and make their formula? She can't have eight of them on just two motherjugs. The underweight babies scream for food every hour or so. Those two jobs alone would take 8 hours, not to mention laundry and taking care of her household.

I can’t imagine that she feels like an “awesome mom” with all that she has to do. I feel bad when i can’t give my kids all the time that I would like to.

How can you give 14 kids, (8 infants, toddlers esp.) enough time? provide financially?

Will the state of kalifornia pay for all of the daycare?

That was one of the issues with Kate Gosselin. Penn paid for a full-time nurse because the kids were preemies. Then Kate appealed the decision to not allow the state-paid nurse to continue after the tups were 1 year-old. Kate said that it was “societies obligation” to help because the science exists and she couldn’t “possibly take care of all six by herself”. She upset a lot of people in Penn with that attitude.

So, I assume that Kalifornia will probably provide a full-time nurse/nanny, and who knows, maybe pay for her mom to watch the kids?
