Democratic poll finds voters like stimulus
The Hill ^ | 30 January 2009 | Michael O'Brien

Posted on 01/30/2009 11:46:50 AM PST by Lorianne

Voters in the 40 of the most competitive Democratic-held congressional districts favor the economic stimulus legislation passed by the House this week, according to a new Democratic poll.

Democracy Corps sampled 1,200 people combined in those districts, dividing them into two groups: the 20 most competitive districts in the first tier and the next 20 in a second tier.

Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg, who conducted the poll, reported that 62 percent of voters in the 20 most competitive districts favor the $819 billion stimulus plan, while 66 percent in the next tier favored the legislation.

In a broader, nationwide poll conducted by the group this week, 62 percent of Americans said they favored the president’s economic stimulus plan, and 34 percent added they would be more likely to support their representative if he or she voted for the plan. Twenty-eight percent opposed the recovery package, and 20 percent said they would be less likely to support a lawmaker who supported the stimulus.

Greenberg said Americans were “desperate” to see Obama succeed, with support steadily building for the president’s administration.

“There’s no roller-coaster feeling to this,” Greenberg said. “There’s just a steady rise in confidence.”

Anybody have a poll which counters this. My reading is that nowhere near 62% of all Americans favor this 'stimulus' bill

Voters in the 40 of the most competitive Democratic-held congressional districts

Now do the same poll with the same questions in red states and see if the results are the same..HAHAHAHAHA..betcha they won’t be..

Democratic held congressional districts of course will be for this..they’re not working, they’re just getting and getting and getting..

The point of the poll is to compel Dems in moderate (competitive) districts to support the bill even though their instincts might tell them to vote against it.

You should take a poll! I bet the number would be closer to 99.9%.

They like it because they know too little of the real world to understand the consequences. Ask them how they like double-digit unemployment, double-digit inflation, and negative economic growth and see what the answer is then.

Stopped reading after that sentence...lol Democrats are idiots....so of course they are ‘for’ the stimulus.

Obama’s gonna pay their mortgages, put gas in their cars, pay for their medical bills and babysit their children for free!

WooHoo!

Here again is the problem too many people paying attention to polls. We all know that this is a stupid idea .Yet the MSM and the Dems will try and make you believe that it's good .Like when they kept saying looks like Obama is in the lead a lot of people didn't even vote thinking there vote would not count. The Dems and MSM count on everyone believing them and there polls.

Probably true. The answer is for the GOP to get our message out clearly. We need to explain how $16B was considered a stimulus not too long ago and $700B under Bush/Pelosi plus $850B under Obama/Pelosi is just runaway spending. We need to go through the bills and hold up examples that demonstrate that this is 99% pork, so that we can cut that support down to just the socialist 23% of the country. Otherwise, the GOP will lose on this issue, and the country will lose. Permanently.

Reading the comments on this thread, one has to wonder when, the vast majority of sensible people are going to see the lies and misdirection coming from the media and the left (is there a difference?). I can see where someone could look past it while Bush was in office. I mean, he did enough stuff that was contrary to what everyone believed in at some point or another to put everyone off; except the most fanatical bushbots. Some one not engaged could say “yeah, I can see that”, or “I'm not doing bad, but the guy down the street...”.

Now, though, there is no veil separating the “hopie changie” crowd from the reality of the situation. Everyone is going to get hit by the coming hard times, and eventually even the dimmest bulb is going to realize that they have been lied to and manipulated.

Those on the government teat, won't care, as long as they get their welfare checks. Besides, they can always riot when their favorite sports team wins, or something happens that gives them cause to; it's a good diversion. Those that are footing the bill for the tax takers will, though, because it will hurt them more than they were told to expect.

The big question is will this happen before 2010, when the congressional pork starts really hitting the streets? Will the sheeple's eyes be opened before this happens, or will they stir and go back to sleep, dreaming of the loving embrace of the government nanny, when the Dem's magic pork potion takes effect?

The stimulus plan has a popularity shelf life of about a month at most before the wheels come off the cart. It will produce no tangible benefits as concocted.

Now put them actually through double digit everything and such, like under Carter and the tune will change.

Sorry to say but a large portion of our fellow citizens are morons and have to be educated by experience not information. Even then it doesn't stick for long. Once the heat of the fire goes away they start to burn themselves again...

The D-Craps caused the problem, the D-Craps rammed the bailout through with no accountability, they have no idea where the money was spent and now they are stealing more of the tax payers money again with no accountability.

And they expect people to believe that the tax payers approve of this fu**ing mess?

Democrats like stimuli too bad they won’t be getting any. This bill does nothing to pay their mortgage or their car payments as they were so proudly proclaiming their savior would do.

My idea of a stimulus would be to require banks that took money to lower their credit card interest rates and minimum payments, lower property & payroll taxes and cut off all wasteful spending in Washington. Somehow, I don’t think that will happen.
