WASHINGTON: A top Republican congressional aide says the $800 billion-plus economic stimulus measure could steer government checks to illegal immigrants.
Republican officials are concerned that the Democratic-written legislation makes people who came to the United States illegally eligible for tax credits of $500 per worker and $1,000 per couple.
A House-passed version of the bill and one making its way through the Senate both disqualify nonresident aliens from receiving the credits. But neither requires a worker to have a Social Security number to get the credits.
An economic aid measure enacted in February 2008 that sent rebates to most wage earners required that people have valid Social Security numbers in order to get checks.

They’re pushing all of the buttons aren’t they?
I had you beat by two minutes ;)
Yes, you did. I mentioned that on the other thread as well. :O)
As usual, the Dems are trying to buy future votes and enslave people by getting them dependent on government.
If Republicans can stick together in opposition, people may see the damage that Democrats in control cause.
ping
Don’t worry - McCain their friend will vigorously defend them as this winds its way thru the Senate.
LOL!These f’ing hypocrits have ALOT of nerve.
Now the real question is whether Juan will vote against “God’s children” when this pork festival hits the Senate.
So a non-resident alien who is working legally and paying taxes doesn’t get the credit, but an illegal who pays no taxes will get it. Brilliant.
“Now the real question is whether Juan will vote against Gods children when this pork festival hits the Senate.”
He’ll never do that. No question.
People wanted CHANGE!
Well, they GOT it!
Okay, how in the HELL do people who haven’t paid taxes get a tax credit?!?!?!?!
This is the first year in a LONG time that I’ve actually OWED taxes, and they get a CREDIT?!
Flagg’s a little pissed....
This doesn’t surprise me at all!....After all, it’s only MY friggin tax money the whack left is throwing into the wind!!
Hope they are ready for the repercussions, cuz they are a comin!
People wanted CHANGE!
All those idiots that voted for him are going to be wearing neck braces from the hard left turn!
As bad as this bill was, a better idea would be to just split the 800 billion among every taxpayer. Quite a nice payment...
That would stimulate the economy and get credit flowing just by helping people pay off debt....
Oh, but you don’t want them to give “we the people” our money back, do you? That would be like them admitting that we can manage our affairs better than they can.
Try owing every year .... then you'll be beyond pissed.
Wow—and my husband and I are probably just barely “phased out” of the $1000 because last year we made together just enough to not qualify. . .even though he’s been laid off since Dec 3rd and is now starting a new job making what he made 7 years ago (”underemployed”).
And yet we are U.S. citizens. . .I feel so. . .defeated.
I owe every year. It keeps me pissed (which is good) because I see just how much is being stolen from me every year, and I absolutely refuse to let them get paid any interest for abusing it.
Hammer the message home, boys.
Something is very very wrong here. Don't they have to have a SSN to legally work in the first place?
wunnerful! jus’ wunnerful! (/lawrence welk)
Hey,they’re just getting the tax simulus that Americans refuse to get.
Ping!
Sweet. You are 5 minutes late though :) Thanks! Will ping!
Big suprise, folks, America is over, the one you knew is gone, Glenn Beck said it best, they are spending 258 thousand dollars per job created on this stimulas package, doesn’t make sense, you’re money is being taken away and given to illegals, and it will mostly work through obama’s health care plan, and when Mexico collapses, and it will, famine and disease are coming our way, the end is near, almost at the door.
If he votes for this, it will reveal him for a very craven political figure. I’ll give him the last bailout, considering how it was sold. (He may not have voted for it. For some reason it sticks in my mind, that he didn’t.) It was totally wrong, but I can see how a guy would make a mistake and support it. I did. I shouldn’t have. There isn’t a hint of sanity related to this bill. And if he votes for it, it will destroy any ability he has to say he is a reasoned fiscal Conservative.
The original bill was sold as a rescue of our Credit markets. I suckered for it. They said they had to have it in days or else. That was months ago, and they haven’t even used the funds yet. And what they are beginning to contemplate using it for, is way far afield from what they said they needed it for.
Those who stated we should let the markets do their thing were exactly right. I don’t like to admit it, but this was a huge mistake on my part.
I don’t think McCain will vote for this monstrosity.
Your tax dollars spent on illegals? Better to pander to the base my dear.
I am sick and tired of waiting for these people to state the obvious, let alone play some hardball.
Absolutely. One-time payment to each CITIZEN of whatever amount. CAVEAT: That money MUST be used to pay off/down outstanding debt, starting with mortgages, car payments, and on down. After that, spend away, but NO CREDIT until the economy achieves homeostasis.
The creditors get their money (what money? they never had it to begin with).
The debtors are in the black.
Business and industry hit the reset button and start anew.
Finance and investment hit the reset button and start anew.
Blah blah blah.
Ya, I know. WAY too simplistic and would never work for a zillion reasons.
I love Glens new FNC program
Tagline just waiting to be stolen
One could also say that much of the money going to infrastructure will also go to illegals.

Who said Republicans were a bunch of spineless, unprincipled ninnies? Tonight’s news that every single House Republican voted NAY on the Democrats’ Generational Theft Act of 2009 is already breathing new life into conservatism. Notwithstanding tales of Republicans fighting for pictures of themselves yukking it up with President Obama, the congressional GOP — finally free from President Bush — is no longer apologizing for its conservatism.
Even better: Republicans are also rediscovering that conservatism can and should be fun. Rep. John Carter, a Republican from Texas, has introduced a bill that would create the “Rangel Rule.” Advancing the idea that everyone deserves equal under the law, Carter’s bill stipulates that anyone paying overdue taxes can write “Rangel Rule” across his/her returns and the IRS would be forbidden from charging fees or penalties.
House Republicans said their counter stimulus bill would create twice as many jobs at half the cost. Whose numbers did they rely on? None other than President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers’ Chairwoman. (Clearly, a right-wing nutjob!)
Here’s hoping Senate Republicans follow in-kind. Perhaps one might even have the audacity to filibuster.
Polls may show Obama to be the cat’s pajamas, but that doesn’t mean his policies make sense. Committing America to a trillion dollars in new debt is a path not to prosperity, but to poverty. Senate Republicans need to embrace their conservative principles now more than ever.

It's officially called a "refundable" tax credit. The unofficial name is "welfare check". Just like the earned income credit.
Republicans are a bunch of spineless, unprincipled ninnies only when they're in the majority and their votes mean something. They've got all the courage in the world when they're in a hopeless minority and their votes have no impact. They act like a party that's more comfortable in the minority. Unless O and the Dems piss off an awful lot of their people, the Pubs may be in the minority for a long time. Keeping them there is what this "stimulus" stuff's all about.
Like it or not, another U.S. civil war is probably coming, at some point in the future. The longer that “everything non-leftist” is suppressed, as well as the higher the calibur that this suppression does happen against “everything non-leftist”, the greater the chances that an eventual civil war does happen, whether the majority of the general public actually wants one or not.
I hope you’re wrong but I have this sinking feeling that we are close to a sh*t hits the fan scenario.
Democratic-written Stimulus Bill=Democrat Voter Base Building Machine
You are so right.
Nevertheless, the Obamanoids are FREAKING OUT and gearing up...

Dear MoveOn Member:
Did you see how many Republicans voted for President Obama’s stimulus package in the House yesterday?
None. Seriously, not a single one.1
Americans voted overwhelmingly for change in November. We voted for an end to the partisan bickering and political games that are destroying our politics. And President Obama bent over backwards to get House Republicans to craft a bipartisan bill, to no avail.
As the bill moves to the Senate, we need bipartisan support, or the stimulus won’t pass. Senate Republicans need to know they have a clear choice: support a stimulus package that will put millions of Americans back to work, or continue to play the games that got us into this mess.
We’ve put together a powerful new ad to pressure the key senators. Can you chip in $25 to get it on the air immediately?

President Obama spent hours meeting with Republican leaders personally. He made painful compromises to win them over.2
But Republicans refused to play ball. They’re insisting on a plan that doesn’t invest a cent in green jobs or health care or education. They just want more tax cuts for the rich and for corporations, even though that’s part of what got us into this mess.3
GOP leaders will get their wayunless we can convince a few Republican senators who are on the fence.
Can you contribute $25 to our new ad to pressure swing-vote Republican senators? Click here:

Another example of the axiom
“to defeat the left, expose the left”
For the last "rebate," (which she figured she wasn't eligible for) she received a special "stimulus" tax return form in the mail: just filled it in (with her SS#), and she got a $300 check.
So, what do they intend to do this time? How in hades would someone who doesn't have an SS# be able to file a zero tax, tax return?
Would anyone like to buy a beautiful Phoenix condo - right in the center of town, within 5 minutes of everything? ‘Coz I’m seriously thinking of heading for the hills.
