(AP) — The president of the Illinois Senate says Gov. Rod Blagojevich wants to make a statement at his impeachment trial.
President John Cullerton told Senators Wednesday that the governor has asked to offer a closing statement at the trial on Thursday. Cullerton says Blagojevich is not asking to testify, which would involve answering questions from senators.
Cullerton recommended that the Senate allow Blagojevich to speak. That view was supported by the Senate's top Republican, Christine Radogno.
Blagojevich has refused to take part in the trial so far. He has said its rules are unfair and he's done nothing wrong.

A show trial to be sure... The outcome is pre-ordained. The cockroaches are tired of the spotlight being shined upon them by Blago’s continued presence on the political scene.

The dimocRATS must know he has a lot of information on them and are scared to death he will expose all the corruption. Otherwise the only thing against him is a statement by the special prosecutor. I don’t know what has been presented so far for evidence. Like was said a show trial.
He knows he’s being railroaded. Just as the Chicago paper blew the investigation before any other Democrats got caught up in the scandal (handing over money).
He has to be careful because if he admits guilt, he’s in for prison. But you can tell he wants to bring others down with him. He may not name names but he wants to play ALL of the tapes (not just the handful of moments that catch him in a scandal). Perhaps he wants to publicly air other moments that implicate other people.
I live in Illinois, so we are hearing about all this 24/7. Today, a Repub state senator said that the Dems cut the witness list short, to speed things up. He says that we need to take our time and do it right. The dems sure are in a hurry to get it finished.
I live in Illinois too, and I can hardly wait for Blago to be out of office. He’s a slimeball, has been dipping into State pension funds like it’s his private piggy bank, is a total pay to player, has helped put our state billions of dollars into debt, and the sooner he’s outa here, the better. Don’t believe the Blago snowjob he’s been propagating on TV for the past two days. He’s a con artist of the first order.

Maybe Blago wants to publically drop a few hints to a few selective House members about what he knows and who he knows it on to help them see how to vote on his impeachment.
And the last thing in the world they want is Emmanual or Congresscritter Jackson, Jr under oath on live TV.

Blago’s crime was not engaging in corruption. That happens all the time in Illinois.
His crime was being so blatant and getting caught at it.
The problem is that he appears to be the only crook going down.

No, they just finished sentencing one of Blago’s fellow crook’s (Kelly), another was arrested at the same time as Blago (his aide), and two others close to not only Blago but to Obama also, have been found guilty and are awaiting sentencing (Atta and Rezko). So slowly but surely the rot is being rooted out.

Kelly is almost an acquaintance. He went to grade school with someone I know.
Arresting Kelly convinced John Wyma to wear the wire on Blanko. Both Kelly and Wyma know 100X more on Blank-O than Rezko was able to give. (They were assistance who helped negotiate his deals) If Rezko can’t tattle on Blank-O that leaves Rezko with only BO to tattle on to get his sentence lightened.
