Barack fools us -- Whole world will pay for America's electoral mistake
By MICHAEL COREN, TORONTO SUN
A young student friend e-mailed me on Tuesday night.
"Have locked myself in my room because the place is full of little idiots -- who cannot spell Barack Obama's name and could not name one of his foreign or domestic policies -- running around screaming obscenities about George Bush, conservatives and how Sarah Palin is a bitch. I love democracy!"
Even so, the people spoke. A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the mainstream media who abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups. A victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere.
A victory for the cult of the cult. A man who has done little with his life but has written about his achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his teeth. Victory for style over substance, hyperbole over history, rabble-raising over reality.
A victory for Hollywood, the most dysfunctional community in the world. Victory for Streisand, Spielberg, Soros and Sarandon.
Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to independence. For those who settle for group think and herd mentality rather than those who fight for individual initiative and the right to be out of step with meagre political fashion.
Victory for a man who is no friend of freedom. He and his people have already stated that media has to be controlled so as to be balanced, without realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement. Like most liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of Fox and Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of television stations and newspapers are drastically liberal and anti-conservative.
Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer said that just as pornography should be censored, so should talk radio. In other words, one of the few free and open means of popular expression may well be cornered and beaten by bullies who even in triumph cannot tolerate any criticism and opposition.
WEAK TOWARD ENEMIES
A victory for those who believe the state is better qualified to raise children than the family, for those who prefer teachers' unions to teaching and for those who are naively convinced that if the West is sufficiently weak towards its enemies, war and terror will dissolve as quickly as the tears on the face of a leftist celebrity.
A victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity, failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic stagnation. A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists, social extremists and urban snobs.
Also a defeat for one of the weakest presidential candidates in living memory.
Why would anyone vote for a man who seemed incapable of outlining his policies and instead repeatedly emphasized a noble but, if we are candid, largely irrelevant war record?
He was joined by a woman who was defended so vehemently by her supporters when it was cuttingly evident that she is years away from being, and perhaps never will be, a serious candidate for senior national office.
Most of all it was a terrible defeat for democracy and the United States. A politician of nothing defeated a nothing politician and a credulous electorate screamed in adoration. I fear we will all suffer very much indeed.
Except for his closing comment about Sarah Palin. She is, IMHO, more qualified for the big show than Obama or Bidne.
But then, I am prejudiced.
98% of this dead on accurate.
Why the hell do I have to read this from Canada, and not from a US newspaper? It is amazing how the totalitarian democrat party almost completely controls the mass media.
Didn’t fool me.
She is and you are, but he's pretty much right on. What's more, you won't find an editorial like that in any newspaper in the U.S.
The history books are written by the winners, and until and unless we conservatives get off our dead a$$e$ and begin to dismantle the LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist conspiracy, we are doomed.
And the history books will not even mention that we were here.
BTW, I have no idea how bad it will have to get before there is a conservative “pushback.”
Or if there can even be a conservative “pushback.”
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
The LIEberals didn’t fool me either, but they sureashell fooled a lot of other people!
Agreed.
Washington Times? NY Post? Are there any other conservative papers in the US?
I hope, as Rush has pointed out, the Obama fails miserably. I do not want him to transform this country into a Socialist Republic, and will fight him and his LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist camp followers, in every way I can.
That is, BTW, what FRee Republic ought to be all about: defeating this fool and his minions.
With respect to Sarah Palin, she is more qualified than either Obama or Biden. Both of them are empty suits — you know it, I know it, Hillary knows it, and it will not be long before the American people know it.
IMHO
Winning or losing national elections by either party has not and will not change Washington.
It is time to think like Washington and win the war as he did.
Writer Michael Coren has the double gifts of thorough analysis and clever description.
Obama's history will be an horrific exclamation point.
A man with zero managerial experience, zero feeling and affection for our wonderful country, customs, and hard-won freedoms, and who apparently obeys some unknown "advisers" with collectivist agendas will only lead us where we do not want to go.
.
The economy determines presidential elections. End of story.
Even with the MSM in the bag, the Obama cult, and idiot McCain for a candidate, it was not a blow-out. But the economy hit the biggest speed bump in decades so the voters voted out the incumbent party. Had Gore been president McCain would have won.
If the economy sucks in four years, the Republican candidate will win, regardless of who it is. If the economy is good, Obama will be back in.
Large blocks of voters are wedded to one party and wouldn't switch with a gun to their head. In the middle are a ton of uninformed people that couldn't tell the difference between a Democrat and a Republican. They "vote for the man". They don't understand issues, principles, policies, and don't care.
Their thinking is, "Economy good, President good. Economy bad, President bad". Clinton was right about this. "It's the economy stupid".
They don't call it this straight. I don't know what it is about Washington, but it eats up all the conservatives and turns them into greedy insiders, including any journalists stationed there.
Yeah, I agree with everything in the article except the slam at Sarah Palin.
ping
Except for his closing comment about Sarah Palin. She is, IMHO, more qualified for the big show than Obama or Bidne.
I think the comments about Palin in the article are probably very accurate. The irony was only that while she was less than qualified, the man who was running for the top job on the other ticket was even less so.
fantastic read..
it’s going to be a long 8 years. I don’t think conservative talk radio will last past 2012.. Dems will wait until Barack gets 2 SCOTUS appts and then it will be a goner.
Nothing in this editorial is stated that hasn’t been said here on FR at least a thousand times.
He is dead wrong about Palin. He is another victim of the press just like the losers he admonishes in his piece. The destruction of Sarah Palin was the real victory in the 2008 Presidential race.
Stating the obvious doesn’t make him look anymore credible if he was indeed “fooled by Barack”. At least, he does see the dangers of sitting on our northern border with a Barack Hussein Obama leading the USA.
...IMHO.
At the risk of sounding dumb...what does that mean? I see it frequently on here...
This article was right on.
Kudos Mike.
I wish more of our country’s newspapers carried articles like this one.
Thank You, your Editor and Publisher on behalf of a concerned America.
Says it all.......
Geez, thanks for the pep talk!
This is a good article but it doesn’t bode well for America, when it comes from Canada. We need a great many more Americans who have things in as clear a perspective as the author.
Yes, I even agree with him about Palin. I do not think the intent was to slam her but to tell the truth. The fact that Obama and Biden aren’t as qualified for the office does not make her qualified. I like the woman a lot, but I can’t name a lot she has done. It would seem both parties are in search for a personality, a King or a Queen, and the war of ideas as well as a healthy, ‘seeing is believing’ mentality are done in this country.
“It is amazing how the totalitarian democrat party almost completely controls the mass media.”
That may be backwards. I am coming to believe that the media controls the Democrat party. The question then, is who is the Maxim Gorky of the US media?
A victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity, failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic stagnation. A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists, social extremists and urban snobs.
Europe is experiencing this now and the Socialists (Communists in drag) want a 100% centrally controlled WORLD, not just countries.
Unchecked immigration is the first step, creating a Tower of Babel where division is easier that unification. Sprinkle in a massive third world population influx and a huge safety net and “pow” you have a dependent social state that will never be strong again. The pressure for an easy, work-free life are too enticing.
According to Roger Hedgecock tonight, about 33% of Americans don’t pay taxes, with the Stimulus Bill of 2009, nearly 56% of Americans (including retiring baby boomers) will not pay taxes in 2012.
This is scary stuff.
Interesting that folks still want to diss Sara Palin as unqualified, saying that she'll likely never be ready for national office. She, at the time she was nominated, was the Governor of the largest state in the Union, and by 2012, will have had as much experience in that office as Bill Clinton had when HE ran for President as Gov. of Arkansas. Of course, one of the reasons he won was because there was a strong third party candidate to draw off votes from the Republicans.
If the Democrats thought x42 was qualified 1n 1988, why not Sarah, in 2012?
Wow, those were going to be my exact words (even though I’m typically as cynical and cranky as goldstate is here).
IMHO means “In my humble opinion”.
Well, he was no Mondale. He got a surprising percentage of the popular vote, showing Hussein is really no Messiah.
when it was cuttingly evident that she is years away from being, and perhaps never will be, a serious candidate for senior national office.
I think what we got here is another elitist writer.
Sarah Palin is a sitting governor of a US state, and has the highest approval rating among the 50 governors.
Sarah galvanized the conservative and Republican base like no one in a generation. That only happened because of her no-nonsense, out-spoken, bedrock conservative stances on the issues.
I think your assessment of her and her chances of becoming our CIC are flawed. She is eminently qualified to be our President.
You may recall that Reagan lost his first bid for the WH to the droll and lackluster machine politician, Gerald Ford, who went on to lose in the GE to Jimmy "Obama The 1st" Carter. At the time, a lot of Republicans didn't think Reagan was "qualified enough", either, but history proved them all wrong.
Palin's got more on the ball, and is more genuine than possibly any other Republican on the national stage. She's also proven her executive skills throughout her political career.
I'm sorry, but you're just dead wrong about Sarah Palin.
