The emergence of a former Guantánamo Bay detainee as the deputy leader of Al Qaeda's Yemeni branch has underscored the potential complications in carrying out the executive order President Obama signed Thursday that the detention center be shut down within a year.
The militant, Said Ali al-Shihri, is suspected of involvement in a deadly bombing of the United States Embassy in Yemen's capital, Sana, in September. He was released to Saudi Arabia in 2007 and passed through a Saudi rehabilitation program for former jihadists before resurfacing with Al Qaeda in Yemen.
His status was announced in an Internet statement by the militant group and was confirmed by an American counterterrorism official.

It’s never a good sign when the terrorists are applauding.
As usual, www.stillright.com nails it!
“He was released to Saudi Arabia in 2007 and passed through a Saudi rehabilitation program for former jihadists before resurfacing with Al Qaeda in Yemen. “
Yeah, that worked... NOT!
Obama moves to overhaul ‘war on terror’ practices (CHANGE: unilateral surrender of the US)

The NYT cares about security now?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
What is this doing in the NYT? I would think they would bury this for the Messiah. I have seen other lib media, CNN, today questioning already some of BO’s economic issues. Either they will start going after him to bolster business, or the media is not really that liberal - they are unprincipled opportunists.
“The NYT cares about security now?”
No.....just laying down ‘news palms’ to carpet the the dung laden path of the Messiah donkey.
Here’s how I see it — Obama promises to close Gitmo, ‘pending finding new locations, yadayada.’ The New York Times, The Great O’s mouthpiece, announces ONE DAY later (coincidence?) that this former Gitmo Camper is now head of Yemen’s Al-Q.
Obama gets to have his cake and eat it too. He appeases Code Pink and the other libs but has to rescind his order because of new information that the NYT just happens to have brought public.
Oh Boy! We’re punishing those RINO’s now...
Oxymoron anyone?
“and passed through a Saudi rehabilitation program for former jihadists”
They do need to rehabilitate the former jihadists. After all they have been detained for a while and are a little rusty.
The NYT cares about security now?
Let's see how many times this rag releases classified information from the Defense Dept or CIA during the Øbama administration. From their "un-named sources", of course.
Move the rest of them next to Jack Murtha. He seems to think they’ll be as little danger there as in Gitmo. Let’s let him prove it.
Oh if that were true. I would happily forgive Obama seeking political cover if he really would keep those guys at Gitmo. Unfortunately, he sees himself as the hero to European pacifists and will foolishly let these terrorists go to look good to the trendy set.
he is about to get a whole boatload of new buddies

Score:
Al Qaeda - 1; Obama - 0
Now tell me again why you want to close Gitmo, oh Messiah!
Proving once again that Bush is smarter than ANY Liberal.
This guy was released from Gitmo on Pres. Bush’s watch.
What if big Rick objects?
Why don’t libtards understand that you cannot rehabilitate a jihadist?
Instead of taking them to Gitmo all this time, how about killing them in combat? Jihadists are less trouble that way.
I know, they have information we need. OK OK OK. Git it out of ‘em NEARER to the combat zone and then kill ‘em. OH YEAH, uniform code of military justice...OH SHIRT. Can’t do that then. I still say blast the bastards on the battle field and bury ‘em wrapped in fine smoked bacon. And for God’s sakes, use the 3 S’s rules!!! And no embedded reporters! Geez!
Not to worry. Obama will talk him down. The guy will be joining the Peace Corps in a few weeks.
For years we were being mercilessly tortured by the NYT/WaPo about how barbaric we were compared to the rest of the world for imprisoning terrorists who for the most part were captured on the battlefield.
NYT, WaPo, President Doofus, McIdiot and Graham-Cracker you Own this issue and you will reap the rewards.
But Rush says that he will announce that he’ll close Gitmo but it won’t happen. Rush is so often right.
These pieces of human excrement need to be “greased” when found.
Not suprising since the Saudi education system is geared toward producing jihadists...not deprogramming them.
Well, whatever it takes!! :)
The nuttiest thing about the propostion to close Gitmo and
put them in our prisons is that we already have a problem with Islamic Clerics teaching revolutionary jihad to our inmates.
Putting these crazed fanatic Islamic terrorists into our prison population will only speed up the process of creating of some really bad citizens.
A major mistake by the Bush Administration.
So now Obama wants to do more of this.
Yeah, and they probably know our secrets. It’s pretty clear to me what is happening here. Islamic terrorist have become hitman against Obuma’s own elect at the direction of Obuma in concordance with Islamic leaders. Will bin Laden be back from the dead?
want to be the NYT knew this back in september october?
The NYT would sit on this to hurt republicans and release it to assist democrats.

I don’t think I’d trust the Saudi education system on anything. As recently as the 1970s they were teaching that the world is flat.
