Crazy people don’t typically have GOOD reasons for what they do, but they still have their reasons. If the nutbar went off because of someone’s grading system then that’s what set him off. If it wasn’t this then it would have been something else, I’m sure, as the guy was unstable to start with.

Sure. VT disarmed ALL of its students. The fact that the federal government may have conspired in that disarmament does not in any way relieve VT of its guilt.

Don't you think it would have made a difference if VT had argued that EVERY law-abiding, adult should be permitted concealed weapons on campus? Wouldn't there then have been more scrutiny of those minorities who might still be legally disarmed?

You're not arguing that the federal government was justified in having denied the victim her right to defend herself, are you?

“If the nutbar went off because of someone’s grading system then that’s what set him off.”

There’s NO evidence whatsoever anywhere that this is what set him off. NOBODY has found any single reason. And the stuff he left behind was incoherent rambling.

“The victim was beheaded? Betcha the perp was a Muslim.”

Doesn’t appear so.

Are non-citizens allowed to carry? I don’t even know. If not, do you think should be allowed?

Thanks for the link. It was good to read the University President’s statement.

Crime happens anywhere. Which is why people with carry permits should be able to carry them everywhere.

Can't argue with that.

An email from Cho to dept Head:

“From: sc2@vt.edu [mailto:sc2@vt.edu]
Sent: Friday, October 21, 2005 3:26 AM
To: Roy, Lucinda
Subject: Re: Our Meeting

I think I'll go with the independent study.

I understand that some people were offended by what I wrote (although it may be because they
may feel guilty about what they did—eating those poor animals—and not about what I wrote and
trying to transfer the blame on me), but it was supposed to be like ha-ha and a response to what
people were talking about in class. I had no anger when I wrote it—it was merely a satirical
response, just like Swift's suggestion of eating babies as the solution to the famine in A Modest
Proposal. I purposely made it grossly over-the-top (mostly because satires usually are) to make a
point, like Water's characterization of school teachers in Another Brick in the Wall part 2 video.

I don't mean to be criticizing Professor Giovanni, and I really don't want to say this but since the
situation has gotten out of hand (and I know it's mostly my fault), she doesn't seem, to me at
least, to be taking enough time reading students’ work. She says that she wants to help me with
my writing yet that seems to be mere words: I get virtually no helpful feedback on my poems
that I write for the class. On some of them I don't even get a grade. For example, on one it said
“please rethink this I do it again” with no grade (I can show you if you want), which I assume is
zero, but she didn't specify what she didn't like about it or why I should rewrite or what's wrong “

Actually, that's not true. It is quite clear-- from his very coherent communications-- that Nikki Giovanni --intentionally or unintentionally-- set him off.

Very clear? Not to me. The e-mail you posted wouldn’t suggest that at all.

There’s no clear evidence that any one thing et Cho. The guy was nuts. He’s the one to blame.

Ignore the evidence at the peril of all who attend VT.
