"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer."
- Barack Obama, Victory Speech, November 4, 2008
Yesterday was Martin Luther King's birthday, which is America's only national holiday to honor an American citizen. The day before, which was Sunday, the incoming Obama administration staged an Inauguration Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial around the theme "We Are One," which was also the theme of his presidential campaign. As several of the speakers -- including the president-elect -- noted, the Lincoln Memorial was the site of Martin Luther King's historic civil rights march and his famous dream for the American future. The president-elect reiterated that dream -- that Americans would judge each other by the content of their character and not their racial or ethnic identity. Today America welcomes Barack Obama as the first black president in its 232-year history.
How should conservatives think about these events?

Does this mean I won't have to listen to any more racial demagoguery?
Nope.
The events of the day were observed in all 57 states
We’re supposed to judge on content of character, yet all we hear is the historic election of a black guy? LOL
And if people DID judge him on character, he wouldn’t have won.
It’s all bass ackwards!
Nothing to be proud of.

Share a fridge full of soju with your conservative pals.
I laughed my butt off at the Oaf of Office with 2 liberal friends in the same room. I even pointed out that Bush actually completed his oath properly. Does that count?
uh oh....
GUANTANAMO BAY U.S. NAVAL BASE, Cuba (Reuters) - Hours after taking office on Tuesday, President Barack Obama ordered military prosecutors in the Guantanamo war crimes tribunals to ask for a 120-day halt in all pending cases.
Soju?
Stoli...straight up!
we should try not to think about it.
we do not celebrate it.
Right there with you.
Move the prisoners from Cuba to the White House, make sure they have 2nd amendment rights. I am sure they will be model citizens
>”If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.” <
...at least until we take control *giggle*.
Pay your taxes and have a nice day. :D
Huh?
I think conservatives need to recognize no matter how much they dislike him they need to recognize this guy is poised to permanently change the political dynamic in this country.
It will take someone who can articulate why conservatism is better, it will take a candidate who can appeal to the American electorate as a star, it will take conservatives who are engaged everyday in the political debate and don't retreat to blogs where they surrounded by like minded individuals. Freepers and other conservatives need to become engaged in the battle for minds out in the real world everyday instead of pouting and venting to folks who agree with them. We need to win the battle on ideas, we desperately need new blood, or probably and more accurately new faces who can appeal to the electorate today and more importantly in the future
NO, because that would mean Jesse Jackson would have to find a real J-O-B, and not one spent on the front steps of large corporations threatening them with massive frivolous lawsuits.
One shot!
We watched “American Carol”
I especially like how he uses "I'm gonna look into that" over and over and over AND over....very formidable indeed!! Never seen one so capable of talking endlessly and saying absolutely nothing of substance.
Good idea, and one I thought of some time ago too. Wherever he puts them, they're his problem if the rock the boat and cause the White House and Congress problems. Then he can unarm the citizens and the terrorists will know who freely gave up their 2nd Amendment rights right away and those folks out first. Yeah, Obumbler, let's see you pass this test. I'm sure some raghead in a cave is just itchin' to try ya.
Yeah, soju. : )
North Korea, China and a bunch of others are also likely planning to ‘test’ O
Since they rolled Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays into Presidents’ Day, MLK Day is the only day to honor a specific American. Soon to change when we add Cesar Chavez Day and Obama Day. Some on the left are pushing for election day to be renamed the latter in honor of his election. Gee, you’d think winning the office would be enough.
It’s obviously something alcoholic, but what?
I think your view is not the consensus of the electorate although it might be here. The point I’m making is that the conservative view needs to be articulated pro-actively not nitpicking shit/
Yes, we did observe it. From a distance. With none of the jubilation and ebullience that was heard in the far distance.
I could share some chocolate vodka, too! LOL!
It is kinds sad to see Horowitz have a premature Obasm. I know that Horowitz is a neocon and that he is an optimist, but this is disheartening. There is nothing conservative in the ascendancy of a race-baiting Marxist who uses coded language and messianic zeal.
He's so formidable that he accomplished practically nothing in his entire time on the Harvard Law Review, the Illinois State Legislature, and the US Senate.
His accomplishments largely consist of reading speeches off teleprompters, destroying opponents with personal attacks, and winning elections.
Hahaha, no kidding, I was looking at that name and thinking ‘Highlander’?
Well it’s fitting to drink a Socialist spirit!
I made peppermint martinis for Christmas with creme de menthe and Absolut vanilla and they were YUM!
Keep me in mind next time you’re pouring the cocktails. I have the feeling I’m going to be doing alot of drinking in the upcoming years...that is, if I can afford it!
Winning elections is what its about!
Sorry but the view that winning elections diminishes this guy is really “unusual”
Hello TSN Queen!!!!!
*bows before TSN Queen*
You’re probably right, Campion, but montanajoe is also right in that we should never underestimate him. After all, say what you will about Obambi, but the guy’s not stupid. An Ueber-liberal, yes, but not stupid. Though he didn’t do much (maybe that’s the kind of politician we need!:-))
A gentleman of oh — I’d say 70-75-ish...I was standing in line at the meat counter in the grocery store, and the guy turns and asks the 4 of us behind him if any of us had seen any of the Inauguration. I shook my head saying no, as did the other three for various reasons.
Then the guy sort of shrugs his shoulders and says, “The news guys keep saying this election is so important and all, and I just don’t see it. If you really think about it, it’s just another day that another person of color or an illegal is moving into public housing.”
I nearly peed in my pants, but not for the same reasons as Chris Matthews.
Where do you get the 45% stuff? That beats my vodka by 5%. Woo.
Well, most of the Soju sold in the states is about 30% max. You have to go to Korea to get the stronger stuff.
Precisely. Ignorance of the electorate is hard to overcome, and potty-training grown adults is virtually impossible.
Speaking in platitudes from a teleprompter does not (or should not) make one the second coming of Christ. That is not nitpicking. It is a serious flaw and problem. A flaw in the electorate and a flaw in the object of their lust. Pro-actively articulating conservative views will only go so far (especially as fractured and nebulous as those have become) when no one seems to notice the emperor is not wearing any new clothes...
