America may intervene in Mexico

US Army report states that America may be forced to intervene in Mexico to prevent the country from collapsing at the hands of organised crime and drug cartels.

The report compiled by the army’s highest command has placed Mexico alongside Pakistan as possible failed states of the future. The report states: “Two large and important states bear consideration for rapid and sudden collapse: Pakistan and Mexico.”

Mexico has a population of 110 million and shares a two thousand mile border with America. It also is next to the smuggling routes linking the US with the drug-growing areas of South America such as Columbia, which is still the world’s biggest source of cocaine.

Mexico already provides America with more migrants than any other country and would be the obvious destination for massive refugees if the country descended into civil war. The report states: “Any descent by Mexico into chaos would

Where’s the “report”?

What’s the title of the “report”?

Is this another BS post about an Army War College thesis?

Is this another BS post that takes one paragraph from a 50 page thesis and calls it a “report” about a “military plan”?

Just a thought: If the US Army ever did cross the Mexican border, which way do you suppose the “displaced persons” would go? I suspect “North”.

No kidding. I think that this is nothing more than a theoretical study.

That said, Mexico IS unstable...why else would so many people literally risk their lives to get out? We MAY be forced to intervene, someday.

Don’t hold your breath, though, expecting old hopey-changey to do this. Many of his future voters might be killed.

Well, if the Anointed One pulls out of Iraq, there will be some military capability that could be called into use.

So, which will be the 51st state? Mexico, Puerto Rico, or Canada?

“So, which will be the 51st state? Mexico, Puerto Rico, or Canada?”

Why don’t we just merge them all together, throw in Guam, Virgin Islands, Panama, Costa Rico, Guatamala, El Salvador, etc., and make them all the 51st State? Better yet, merge them with California, and make them part of California, since it’s a lost cause anyway.

Sounds like another form of bail-out for all the investors in Mexico. They put all their money into out-sourcing to Mexico and they don't want to see their investments burned to the ground. I say seal the border with the US military and let it burn.

About 10 years ago, Caspar Weinberger wrote a book called “The Next War” in which he put forth several scenarios about the next war the US would get involved in. One of them was the US invading Mexico after Mexico became a failed state.

The Military also told their people to stay out of Mexico because of the danger.

Troops are restricted on travel to Mexico

In response to the “prolonged, escalating violence” in Mexico, the commanding general of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force has tightened regulations for all Marines who want to travel south of the border, officials said.

Marines and sailors cannot travel alone to Mexico and must use the buddy system.

Also, troops must take an anti-terrorism course and keep the telephone number of the U.S. consulate in Tijuana when traveling in the border region. Violations of the order are punishable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, officials said.

"Is this another BS post that takes one paragraph from a 50 page thesis and calls it a “report” about a “military plan”?"

Yeah, the same thought occurred to me.

But I did find this from CBS News: Mexico Biggest Crime Threat To U.S.?

"The prospect that America's southern neighbor could melt into lawlessness provides an unexpected challenge to Barack Obama's new government. In its latest report anticipating possible global security risks, the U.S. Joint Forces Command lumps Mexico and Pakistan together as being at risk of a "rapid and sudden collapse." "

This is particularly scary as we plan to drive down to Ensenada next month and have seriously been looking at retiring there.

Let’s face it. The drug cartels already run Mexico, and this is just a dispute among the cartels as to which will be top dog. Presidents of Mexico for many decades have all retired with more than a billion dollars in the bank. Where do we think this money comes from?

Not only that, but clinton had a close working arrangement with the cartel, and took a cut of the profits.

Bush, I think, probably is not getting personally paid off, but he also has a close working arrangement with the corrupt powers who run Mexico. His father actually worked with clinton on the CIA drug runs to the Nicaraguan Contras from Mena Airport, but that was ostensibly done as a way to get around the Democrat ban on funding any aid to the Contras. In other words, it could be described as in the national interest, though hardly an ideal arrangement.

Coming from the Chicago Mob, I presume Obama will play it the way clinton did, and take his 5% rakeoff for defending the cartels and clamping down on the small independent smugglers.

"Except for the weather....I think I’d rather go to Albania than Mexico...."

That's a big "except for"! Love warm weather.

And, trust me, "Albania" is definitely not an option for me!

I am a native Californian, had Mexican food before I could walk and generally get along fine with Mexicans -- although obviously not the "drug-dealing thugs". Besides the complexion out here in CA isn't much different, the weather is better there and American equivalent houses on the beach in Baja cities are about half the average housing price of the US for something nowhere near the water.

I knew that there had been some significant incidences lately in Mexico, but didn't know it was this bad.

Be fun to watch the loon’s heads explode when Zero has to invade Mexico!

It wouldn't be an invasion, it would be a "humanitarian liberation mission" which the press would applaud like they did when Clinton attacked our Serbian allies for daring to claim their territory from invading Muslim interlopers.

Personally, I'd like to see the border cauterized with napalm every hour on the hour, for about 2 years.

Here's a plan. Most of the Mexican’s seem to want to come here so let them all in. The red states get Mexico. Want to see a country turn into one with an incredible economy and people that pretty much agree on everything, what a country it would be. Plus it's warm there. Always an asset.

See post 24. Read, don’t ‘think’.

My wife is from Mexico (and is here entirely legally, and is now a citizen who voted against Obama - just to set the record straight from the beginning). Her entire extended family lives in Mexico City, and several are fairly tight with some pretty important people there.

I have heard of no problems out of the usual, except for complaints about the peso having lost a lot of purchasing power lately. I also live in South Texas, and the several-times-a-week dust-up between gangs (and occasional shooting of police on both sides of the border) is on a par with what it has been for the past few years.

Pardon me for "thinking."

If you think everything is AOK in Mexico, or here because of Mexico, you are uninformed. Sorry. I don’t make up these MANY reports....they’re from the government and the border patrol who knows what is going on.

You don’t think that points to big problems in Mexico when the military tells it’s people:

"My wife is from Mexico...I have heard of no problems out of the usual, except for complaints about the peso having lost a lot of purchasing power lately."

That's pretty much all that I have heard from people who live there, too -- other than in the Border areas where the cartels have been going nuts, even shooting up a police station in Baja -- and one similar incident in Merida, that shocked all the locals when 12 headless bodies were discovered. But people here forget that Mexico is a pretty big country.

Otherwise, Mexico seems to have really progressed in recent years. it's just the damn drug dealers.
