Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, made a final plea this week to President George Bush to commute the sentences of jailed U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. Because of the excesses of the prosecution against them, they will continue to sit alone in those cells for another decade, Cornyn wrote, according to a report in the WorldNetDaily. That is unless President Bush commutes their unjust sentences. In his remaining days as president, I ask President Bush to show mercy and use his clemency power to give back Agents Ramos and Compean the next 10 years of their lives.

The President needs to commute those wildly unfair jail sentences.
Stubborn.
Unfair.
Bought-off.
I’ve come to the conclusion that it would be better to get 0be to do the pardon. It could be the first (and likely only) rectification of bad outcomes of the Bush Justice System.
Misplaced loyalty to former aide Johnny Sutton.
Ya know, Bush could replace Ramos and Compeaon with Johnny Sutton ... or is our new affirmative-action, community organizer in chief going to keep Sutton in the job?
Bush seems to prefer to pardon drug offenders, but will probably let these guys rot in prison. If he does, shame on him.
If the President fails to pardon these two innocent victims, it will leave an indelible stain on his legacy, as much or more than the stain on Monica's blue dress! I will find it difficult to vote for any Bush, even for dog catcher; to me, the lack of compassion will reflect on the entire Bush family, IMO.
I’m sure the GOP bluebloods are already setting things up for an Jeb run just like they did with GWB.
Bush seems to be loyal to his prosecuter that he asked to punish these men. Seems Bush was trying to gain points with Mexican authorities and sacrificed these men. History will not serve the President well in this regard.
This si not being stubborn. This is being self serving.
I dont think he will pardon them either,
It wil be to his shame.
One of the biggest of W’s f**k ups. What an injustice done to these two Leos.
Oh, but, but, but “he kept us safe”!! /sarcasm
Be careful, you are going to upset the “Pray for W” dude.
That seems to be what it has come down to. I worked for Bush both terms in pushing for him to become and remain President and I am sad to say it has come down to “there has been no attack on our soil since 09/11”, which is commendable! No doubt.
Sadly though, there are plenty of other things that have frustrated me beyond belief. Most especially in the past year.
I’m not under any delusion that the US has been a welfare state for many decades now but GWB slammed on the accelerator to make this country undeniably socialist economically.
I’ve wondered about that too. His actions with regards to illegal immigration and anything that threatens it make me think he’s on retainer to interests in Mexico.
Google Johnny Sutton what a mess this man has made.
The US has been a welfare state for Mexico.
Johnny Sutton is a Bush Buddy. Bush will never turn against a Bush Buddy who hasn’t turned against him.
Open-border RINO thugs. The Clintons and O are owned by all middle eastern money and the Bushes are owned by the Saudis and Mexico.
Maybe Coryn could have spoken up against the usurper and we could have awaken some patriotism in the cowardly politicians who ignore the Constitution.
I will be sad if he faills us on this.
I would really like to know why he hasn’t already done so....
People have made wild guesses and some pretty good guesses none of them are probably the real reason. I wish someone could channel the mind of Bush and tell us why?
I agree. If he fails to issue either a pardon or a commutation of their sentences, it will continue a grave injustice that is now his and his alone.
LOL!
He just better do it already.
Someone tell me again that GWB, for all his faults, is an “honorable” man.
When my daughter was growing up I told her very simply that if a person does not have loyalty and personal honor, that person is worthless. Measure Bush with that yardstick and tell me what you get.
That would imply that W doesn't realize what he is doing. I don't believe that to be the case. This is a deliberate and calculated course of action on his part. Motives? Take your pick. But I darn sure wouldn't want W covering my back.
What does everyone expect? Ollie north was doing exactly what the White house instructed him to legally do. They Didn’t pardon him. He almost lost him military pension.
But Bush whipped out a pardon for Scooter faster than a Wyatt Earp quick draw.

I pray for George W. Bush to have a heart of flesh instead of a heart of stone.
I am so disappointed in him. I wonder if a one term John Kerry might not have been better than a two term W.Bush.
I didn’t mean to imply the action wasn’t deliberate. Deliberate or not it was a f**k up, he made many trying to be a “compassionate” conservative and only succeeded in screwing most things up.
Bush commuted the sentence of that little pigshit Lewis Libby. Why not Compean/Ramos?
My wife thinks Obama will indeed commute their sentence, to curry more favor with the right.
I don’t think that the Mexicans will give him permission to do so.
She’d be correct.
I am surprised that Senator Cornyn (whom I supported in every general election he has been on the ballot, but not the 1998 primary for attorney general) would make such a request. He knows how stubborn GWB is and how determined GWB is to stick it to conservatives. Conservatives did not betray GWB; he betrayed conservatives!
I think the reasons are two-fold: blind loyalty to Johnny Sutton and a desire to stick it to the conservatives who nominated him in 2000.
But the Bush-bots always say he is a “good man”. That’s not even true, as this case shows.
I can't and don't want to believe that is true. I'm not that blind! More here that we don't know.
PARDOND BY BUSH TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Commuted. Oi!
The action by the president, who believes the border agents received fair trials and that the verdicts were just, does not diminish the seriousness of their crimes, the official said.
Compean and Ramos, who have served about two years of their sentences, are expected to be released from prison within the next two months.
