Love your rant - I agree with every word. I only wish it had gone on longer.

Wow...I think the only thing you might have left out might have been to march them in front of mirrors; maybe prior to tossing them into the swimming pool full of holy water.
Minor point. I think you nailed it all.

In a statement, Star Tribune publisher Chris Harte said, We intend to use the Chapter 11 process to make this great Twin Cities institution stronger, leaner and more efficient so that it is better positioned for the future. An alarmist pink sheet shoved under car wipers at the mall?

But, a lot of them would rather close shop than to be neutral or balanced. That is their problem. They "feel" that they are neutral and balanced.
To their way of thinking, why change course when you are in the middle of the road?
They blame their demise on the internet?
That's just a handy scapegoat.
If the internet wasn't around it would be something else.

Only one thing to add: Salt the earth when finished.

Circulation doesnt drop because advertising drops....but advertising WILL drop when circulation does. Line of the day.

Florida Times-Union is pretty conservative. Though they didn’t endorse McCain because they wanted Romney as VP rather than Palin.

Perhaps if they were a little more liberal they would've survived.

Especially the half with money to buy newspapers and that can actually read. That's a problem for the MSM - the intellectual left is propped up by large numbers of the functionally illiterate.

When one of their senior editors, Frank Thomas, said nice things about Ayres and Dorhn and attacked Palin and others for saying bad things about them, I knew I wanted nothing more to do with that paper. I threw newspapers as a kid - and have always had a fondness for 'em... but this is too much. Backing Ayres and Dorhn is sick. The Minneapolis Star Tribune deserves their fate...

Media General (Richmond Times-Dispatch, Tampa Tribune) used to be a little more right-leaning but in recent years, they’ve started drinking the Kool-Aid too.

My thoughts exactly.
I’d have preferred Chapter 7.

I sent them some hate about disabling comments. I totally agree with what you said though. I would have continued my subscribtion to the St. Paul Paper if they continued to provide the coverage they did for the week of the convention

Don’t forget the Waterbury Republican-American. I subscribed to it when I lived in CT and miss that I can’t get a paper copy here. I do subscribe to the electronic version though

I wonder how Obama is feeling, knowing his allies are going under right as he’s about to need them the most.
