As President-Elect Obama readies his ascent to the White House less than two weeks from now, it appears that his political acumen extends not only to those in all parts of the Democratic party, but in no small part to Senator John McCain as well. Just three short months ago we were inundated with McCain's talk of Bill Ayres and 'That One,' but an easy détente appears to have developed between the former rivals.
To that end, President-Elect Obama has committed four distinct acts that telegraph his political savvy when it comes to Senator McCain.
. . . . .
With Napolitano firmly ensconced at the Nebraska Avenue headquarters of DHS, Senator McCain's toughest potential opposition to re-election in 2010 is out of the picture. Having already announced his intention to seek another term in the Senate, this will allow McCain to carry out his Goldwater-esque desire to bring centrism and civility to the Senate and to the GOP.
. . . . .
Why, though, would the President-Elect go to all the trouble of giving so much consideration to an opponent whom he soundly defeated? Continuing the thread of wise political judgment that has so far defined his transition, Obama understands that having John McCain as an ally in the United States Senate is a major boon to his policy initiatives. As the recent standard-bearer for the GOP, McCain will be enormously helpful; any Republican imprimatur on Obama legislation could help clear stubborn obstacles. The prospect of having a troika of votes in the Senate (McCain, Lieberman and Lindsay Graham) may have also played into the strategy; pushing a bill from 58 or 59 to the magic level of 60 votes is invaluable as the Democrats stand on the cusp of their magic number.

McCain should be the number one target of conservatives in 2010 to get him unseated.

Looks like Benedict Arnold has gone off the deep end... |

John McDem?
And yet quite a few Freepers assure me that McCain is completely harmless and insignificant, a sentiment with which I wholeheartedly disagree. Until Captain McQueeg is defeated in 2010, he is extremely dangerous to conservatism, the future of the GOP, and Sarah Palin, especially given his penchant for bizarre, "loose cannon" behavior.
Makes me sick!
No one in the GOP is dangerous....the party has been castrated - completely impotent. The lib/dems don’t need any help from anyone to do whatever they darn well feel led to do.
We need to start campaign to insist that Obama appoint McCain to some lame admin. post to show he is really bipartisan. These cadidate should do like Dole ansd resign their seat when they run. Then we would have been rid of Kerry and Mccain from the Senate.
No way McCain should be positioned to continue his act of being a leader of the REPUB party. His tanking and continued kissy kissy with all the RATS should disqualify him alone. (I am sure the MSM and DNC want to propr him up to continue in that role). That is why they still go after Palin so aggressively.
Liz, you should have supported my boy Rudy when you had the chance....
On what planet?
Nothing would surprise me about McCain. Fortunately, he allowed the conservative movement the opportunity to renew itself through Sarah Palin. In retrospect, this may wipe out any lingering resentment that conservatives may have towards McCain in the future.
Oh, rabscuttle, get some fiber in your diet. He put Sarah Palin on the map, forgawdsakes.
The question is not, “Is John McCain a part of the Borg” ,but how long has he been a member.
I have just about come to the conclusion that McCain is no near as treacherous as he is just plain stupid.

And then stabbed her in the back. I promise you McCain will do everything he can to scuttle any chance she could ever have.
Of course, McCain and his mini-me from South Carolina will be happy to assist the Democrats in gaining their 60 votes in the Senate to pass...amnesty for illegals, and by the time Sarah Palin runs, if at all, the illegals will all be voting for the Democrats.
Did I forget to mention that McCain is dangerous?
ruffage.
I'd get some, but prices have gone up since Juan McCain started offering illegals $50/hour to pick lettuce.
The screaming moonbats who thought Romney was a greater danger to the Republic than Oba Mao ought to hang their heads in shame. If Romney had ever emerged as the front runner, Fred Thompson would have emerged as the most viable alternative. If Hucksterbee had concentrated on getting McCain out of the race rather than his distant second challenger, he might actually have won conservatives over in 2012.
As it is, the entire crop of 2008 candidates have made themselves irrelevant by supporting McCain, the worst RINO of them all.
I agree. I was vehemently against him - vocal here - until I finally relented out of fear of ZerO. It never changed by basic distrust of him. It was the first time that both the Democratic and Republican candidates for US President were selected by the MSM - they must be feeling pretty proud of themselves. They should be introduced to the guilotines.
Tied with Bush.
I never relented, and I never will.
As for the big Zero, whatever. He's stuck between a small rabid core of moonbats that want to convert the U.S. into a twenty-first century USSR and the rest of the electorate that just wants to be left alone.
Well, I’ll be honest with you-—I learned my lesson.
From now on, I listen to everything you say (giggle).

"Kiss me, you fool."
Granted, they are two peas in a pod when it comes to amnesty, but Buah has never been as enthusiastic about pi**ing on the conservative base as McCain when it comes to any other issue.
I disagree. Bush gave us Paulson and the Socialist pork festival (bailouts), as well as Medicare Part D. Plus he joined with McCain on amnesty. Those are enough to place him in a tie with McCain...though you are right, Bush is nowhere nearly as enthusiastic about pissing on conservatives as McCain.
LOL
Have fun with this.

"Ach der lieber.....Kaleefurrneeah bankrupt? Duz dat mean
I gotda chainch my plans abat runnin for prezeedunt?"
" Chonny and Wooty, you two RINOS bettah make udder plans.
Ai gotda vunny veeling dah Reepublucan Potty tinks RINOS are pure crapola."
" Ai hear RINOS kin get jobs as Val-Mart greeters, Home Depot paint mixers
unt McD's ketchop pumpers, or vaiters at Ved Lopstah."
"Ai kiss anyboty's tookus to gets dah money to bailout Kaleefurnia. Mebee Ai

Talk about a Freudian slip.
McCain Mini Me ping!

"Yeah, it's true---McC and I are an item. I can
get you a date with his wife, if you're interested."
Suspending your campaign to return to D.C. to make an ass of yourself ranks right up there with "read my lips."
Maybe O’Cain was one of O’s stooges all along, playing the old, RINO populist bit just to assure a Democrat landslide and the destruction of conservatism.
That is hilarious....and scary at the same time!
I don’t like saying it, but to one degree or another, GHW Bush, Bob Dole, George Bush, and John McCain have each been a Manchurian Candidate.
It’s time to go down a new path, shedding the ideology these folks have ingrained into them.
That’s why I didn’t vote for John McCain, and will never vote for someone who espouses the ideology this ilk have adopted.
THE STUPIDEST McC CAMPAIGN MOVE---cast your votes here.
(1) Suspending his campaign to return to D.C. to make a complete ass of himself;
(2) McC stupidly "reaching across the aisle" to Dims with mob proclivities waiting to kneecap him;
(3) going on broadcast TV to whine that Obaba "broke his promise" about campaign financing. Clueless McC did not understand what a ninny he looked like to Repubs----believing a Dim would keep a promise. McC's whining made him look like a useful tool of Obaba.
(4) falling hook line and sinker for LIEberman's "bi-partisan" con game. LIEberman was at McC's side as LIEb wrote a $100,00 check to the Dims so as not to lose his Dim bona fides. "User LIEberman" shadowed McC at every turn making sure McC read from the punkneo script;
(5) McC reading out his own supporter for dissing Obaba;
(6) McC's insiting on an "open forum" debate to show himself off, where he actually looked like he was an over-the-hill Home Depot clerk, mincing about, trying to find the pain stirrer.
What a tough decision to make!
And don’t forget the “No Idiot Left Behind” thingy. That was another wonderful gift.
Yes.
We MUST find a voice in this government.
Any suggestions . . . please?
Its simply payment for a job well done!
BTW, to my mind "McBlivet" describes him better.
Ach Der Lieber........
Dat vass verry funny...LOL!
The article forgot to mention a fifth important Obama outreach move to McCain, Obama appointed General James L. Jones as his National Security Advisor. General Jones and McCain are close personal friends.
Liz, you should have supported my boy Rudy when you had the chance...
He was my choice and I was terribly disappointed when he didn’t pursue it.
