Hawks depart as Clinton ushers in new era of US 'soft power'

Barack Obama will mark a radical break in American foreign policy this week by unveiling a team of diplomats tasked with ushering in a new era of dialogue with enemies abroad.

As Hillary Clinton prepares for Senate confirmation hearings this week, she will head a group of advisers who are virtual opposites to the appointees made by President George W Bush. While Bush favoured aggressive neoconservative ideologues, Obama has selected people whose doveish credentials seem impeccable.

They will be responsible for reversing the political unilateralism of the Bush years and opening direct negotiations with hostile states, potentially ranging from Syria to Cuba and Venezuela and maybe including Iran and even Islamic militant group Hamas.

The Obama foreign policy team that has emerged is focused on know-how and experience - often gained during the Clinton era. Many of the appointments have a clear focus on the Islamic world. Former UN ambassador Richard Holbrooke, who brokered a peace deal in the Balkans, will be appointed a special adviser to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Former Middle East negotiator Dennis Ross will be a special adviser on Iran and the surrounding region, showing that Obama is keen on opening a diplomatic front in America's dispute with Tehran. Ross has a history of personal involvement in Middle East peace talks, including numerous negotiations between Palestinians, Arab states and Israel.

Talks which were, no doubt, highly successful.

"Soft power!"

Isn't that special. The Muzzies eat "soft power" people for breakfast.

Not just that, envision “FUTURE NEWS”: “Within weeks of initiating his new approach to meeting with adversaries face to face, deceased former President Obama’s policy has been abandoned for the foreseeable future.”

Now let me get this straight: Neoconservatives are "ideologues," whereas those with "doveish credentials" that are "impeccable" should be the objects of great admiration.

Nothing like straight, objective reporting.

Doves make a pretty tasty meal for predators.

Jimmy Carter was a dove look what his policies bought us.

Iran in the hands of fundamentalist Muslims who’s greatest wish is that the US be destroyed and replaced by an Islamic republic.

The Panama Canal bought and paid for with US blood and treasure in the hands of Communist China on the road to world domination.

The failure of the US auto industry, double digit inflation and economic malaise.

These are just a few highlights of Carter’s dovish legacy. You are all welcome to add your favorites.

Consider what’s inside the blast ring. If the blast is centered in any of several Rat dominated cities, it might not really be a bad thing.

Some past "soft power" hits of the Clintons.

In the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings (August 7, 1998), hundreds of people were killed in simultaneous car bomb explosions at the United States embassies in the East African capital cities of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. The attacks, linked to local members of the al Qaeda terrorist network headed by Osama bin Laden, brought bin Laden and al Qaeda to international attention for the first time, and resulted in the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation placing bin Laden on its Ten Most Wanted list.

Along with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, and the 2000 attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, the Embassy Bombing

Yeah, that was our last attempt at using "soft power". It remains my belief to this day that the problems we face in the Middle East are directly attributable to Carter's stabbing the Shah in the back. It led to our people being taken hostage for over a year in the radical Muzzies, and Reagan's election was really the thing that freed them, not Carter's hand-wringing and caterwauling. The fall of the Shah and the collapse of a pro-Western Iran emboldened Saddam Hussein and that has direct ties to where we are today. And Odouchebag wants to go back to that?

Stupid, stupid, stupid, journalist.

If one has “dovish credentials”, then of course they would be impeccable.

Because one would not actually DO anything, take ANY action, or make any decisions that are disagreeable in the first place.

It is easy to be a policy dove.
