actually, that’s the longer term strategy. The outgoing Dem governor appointed a seatwarmer with , I suppose, no intention of running in 2 years or whenever a new election would be. I believe he was Biden’s chief of staff or whatever. Meanwhile, I guess old Joe couldn’t resign before being sworn in, or they would have had to have an election to let the people have a say in who their Senator was going to be (unfortunately it would have been Dem anyway unless the RINO Castle had decided to go for it). That’s because Biden’s golden boy son,Bo, who is the state AG, got called up with his reserve unit to serve in Iraq (remember the VP debate, both he and Palin had sons posting to Iraq about the same time?). Then of course, Bo returns as the conquering hero, the seatwarmer stands aside and the stable of Democrat potential challengers stands aside to allow the royal Bo to claim his father’s seat in the ‘10 election against some total unknown on the demoralized Republican line, and, voila, Delaware has Senator Biden again. Despite the lack of media scrutiny, the theme is the same as the Blago scam— “the public be damned.”

The reason Biden did not resign before being sworn in was so that he could be sworn in a record (for Delaware) 7th time as US Senator.

Beau Biden will have to make a decision in 2010 whether to run for re-election as AG or for his father's former seat which will be held by former Biden chief f staff Ted Kaufman.

I doubt Castle will run for the Senate seat as I understand he is under some pressure to retire because his health isn't exactly 100%.

but I wonder whether a vacant seat at the end of a current term ,as though a Senator had died, for instance, forces a special election, prior to the next regular election. I would think so, otherwise technically, there would be a term exceeding six years. The "7th term" cr-p is just a distraction from the family power play, because these pieces were in place from prior to Bo running for AG, that he was being groomed to take old Joe's seat.

you are right about Castle, he had a small stroke a year or two back, but that was nothing compared to the ruptured aneurysm Joe had years ago.

But, but...........it's the DELAWARE WAY........(end dripping sarcasm)

As I explained to a friend who didn't understand why I was supporting McCain, in 20 years as a voter in Delaware I never once cast a vote for Joe Biden and I sure as heck wasn't going to start now as a Virginia voter. I have to think my personal knowledge and experience with Hairplugs changed more than just one or two votes ;) The man just out and out gave me the creeps.

The other thing about Castle, I believe the health issue is just a smoke screen, is that Crapper — oops Carper — stole his thunder by defeating Bill Roth, which was the seat to which Castle was expecting to ascend.
