A Resurrected '24' Article
By DOROTHY RABINOWITZ Well before the end of its last season -- its sixth -- viewers in revolt against plot concoctions as pointless as they were bizarre had begun abandoning "24" in droves. Now season seven has arrived (Sunday and Monday, 8-10 p.m. ET on Fox), and it's a good bet nobody is going to be moving anywhere once the taut new "24" -- in fact very much the old "24" -- begins to unfold.

I lost interest two seasons ago.
Season 1 was OK, I guess. Season 2 was great. Didn’t get through Seasons 3 or 4, but Season 5 had my wife and me hooked. Season 6 started great, but then I deployed and missed everything after the ex-president getting involved.
Is this season where he’s going to take on Global Warming?
Jack was in Africa last week looking for Rahm!
Will we get to see more of Carley Pope in her lingerie?
2nd good review - 1st from Rush L. and Dorothy R. - both reliable sources.
Redemption was great.
After reading the article, I’m not certain I want to watch the show.
Tony is back from the dead this season, and he’s a bad guy. Can’t wait to see the explanation for how he survived the explosion that killed him.
The 4-hour beginning of Season 6 is what got me interested in the show. I watched all five seasons through Netflix, then returned to 6 for the disappointment of finding Jack’s crazy family being hand-in-glove with the villains, and weird hints of a relationship between him and his sister-in-law. I hope 7 is better. The Redemption movie was pretty good.
We TIVO’d “Redemption” but haven’t watched it yet. I guess I’ll get around to it sometime now that we’re caught up on the “Dexter” DVDs.
Didn't he survive the inital explosion, then bleed to death (we thought) in CTU's infirmary? I want to know how they didn't notice that he wasn't dead.
A couple of years ago, I was addicted to that show, so much so... that we wouldn’t except calls from even family members when it was on.
They went lib and ruined it all.... I will not bother to watch it again, regardless of how they might change.
I live out-of-country and so didn’t watch 24 until last summer. I watched season one all at once. It got really silly in the last five or six hours. The death of Bauer’s wife and the traitorous colleague was soooo predictable. I do plan to watch season 2 sometime. But only when I can watch it all the way through without stopping. I’ll probably buy a pirated copy and wait until I have malaria. That will be a two or three day stay in bed and so I’ll want something to keep me occupied.
you say “then I deployed and missed everything after the ex-president getting involved.”
you can watch past episodes free online - including the first two hours of this season that was shown in Nov.

The big issue I have had is that they have gone thru 3 or 4 Presidents inside of a year, resignations, plane crashes etc etc. Makes it hard to keep track of the “history”. And how is it their agency is so easily infiltrated?
IIRC, usually there are several years that have transpired between seasons (usually). Plus you got one President shot down, another tossed in jail, I don’t know what happened to Palmer’s brother. They do go through ‘em pretty quick though.
As to your latter grievance, CTU’s screening/hiring practices have been maligned for quite a while. :o)
I can't say how many times I've wished some corporate witness would respond likewise, "Senator, you've asked me here to answer questions. If you're only going to make a speech, may I be excused for a more important use of my time?"
Rush is lauding it - says it's great.
Libs/Washington hate it because it gives us a clue as to the real machinations in Foggy Bottom...
So you take you clues from the media?
I’d just be happy with a few knee caps blasted and fingers snipped off. Ahhh, the good old days........
Probably the same way they never noticed all the moles in the place. There were more leaks in the CTU than New Orleans during Katrina.
IMO the show jumped the shark when a tied up Bauer killed a terrorist with a throat bite. Turned it off immediately and never looked back.
so I’ve heard. Perhaps I’ll give 24 another shot. The last two seasons...well, as the article notes, they were writing for people that will never like the show, due to the inability to drop real world politics and just enjoy a television show.
It was always a fools errand.
ah come on now. That is what endears old Jack to us. He has that throat bite down to a science! He has used it more than once. I believe they teach that at Quantico.
Might want to make time to watch “redemption” if you plan to watch the new season. It acts as a jumping off point for the new season.
Indeed i would have loved to see General Patreaus do exactly that when the libs where racking him over the coals on the surge
The article is from some butt-dart playing commie from the SF Chronicle. Consider the source.
Has Rush seen the whole season?
Palmer II, the wimp, got blowed up real good.
I might actually give it a chance again. Last season lost me, not for the implausibility of the action (though that was bad enough writing, it is part of the genre,) but for the soft side and mellowing out of things that did not fit. The end of the season with Jack appearing to consider jumping off the cliff summed up the bad for me.
Affirmative Action. There’s a quota for quislings and traitors (grin)
>> Tony is back from the dead this season, and hes a bad guy. Cant wait to see the explanation for how he survived the explosion that killed him.
The explosion killed his wife, not him. He was injured, but recovered. He was “killed” when injected with a drug overdose by Christopher Henderson during Day 5. The question is, how did he survive that?

Indeed do! Mitch Rapp IS Jack Bauer or vice versa. His latest, Extreme Measures is just GREAT. Read it.
>> Jack’s back :)
I couldn’t be more thrilled, honestly. I actually started watching during Season 2, at the behest of my wife (of 3 days at the time ... 6 years now). We bought Season 1 on DVD with gift cards we got as Wedding gifts ... and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I’ve seen the trailers for Season 7, and they look fantastic. I watched the first 17 minutes on the 24-Redemtion DVD ... and, Jack gets the opportunity to read a smug holier-than-thou liberal Senator the riot act during questioning regarding the torture of terrorists ...
*** from a newspaper article recounting the scene ***
Here he is on Sunday, in the beginning of the two-night, four-hour season premiere of “Day 7,” responding, under subpoena, to questions from a self-righteous senator played by the perfectly cast Kurtwood Smith (”That ‘70s Show”), who wants to know if Jack tortured a guy named Ibrahim Haddad way back in 2002.
“According to the definition set forth by the Geneva Convention, yes, I did,” Jack replies.
“I am more than willing to be judged by the people you claim to represent,” he then tells the senator. “I will let them decide the price I should pay. But please do not sit there with that smug look on your face and expect me to regret the decisions I have made. Because, sir, the truth is, I don’t.”
****
I would LOVE to see a real counter-terrorist tell some liberal wack-job to shove it like that.

People move on by necessity and often prefer the changes they've made.
Rarely it works in movies. At least for me the pull to keep up with the show is gone. It has about run it course anyway. What else if left to do that is not a complete repeat?
In real life real situations go on and on. At some point they become trite. New characters and heroes are demanded to hold our interest.
PS ... I like Jack.
I’m waiting for the paperback of Extreme Measures, or perhaps the library.
No CTU???? No CTU???? Thats crazy man, what have they done with Chloe???
Jack's gonna have his hands full at the palace of weasels.....
I thought it was pretty obvious that Jack's nephew is really his son with the sister-in-law. Dropped thread that perhaps they'll pick up again this season.
Tony survived the explosion although it killed Michelle (a shame in my male opinion). He then was going to kill the bad guy by injecting him with a lethal cocktail of drugs in the CTU infirmary, but the bad guy turned the tables and stabbed Tony with the syringe.
We assumed Tony was dead, but he got the silent clock, so there were questions even then.
It was so unreal and full of Sutherland yelling all the time, that I could never get very interested.
I read somewhere they’re going to try to show Bauer actually eating a meal this year. Apparently last season they had a clip of him stepping out of a restroom, and someone handing him a wrapped sandwich, but it ended up on the cutting room floor.
German and Chinese terrorists just reminded me of how politically correct hollywood is. As such, I just didn’t bother with the show.
The few episodes I saw, were just too unbelievably ridiculous to watch.
The last one I actually saw featured ‘Jack’ being kidnapped by the Chinese about fifteen feet away from the President....(eyes rolling)
Haven’t bothered with it since.
That said, I might check it out based on the comments I’m seeing here at FR and other sites, many of the comments that are positive also reflect what I’ve written here about the show.
Whoa - just 'did an Amazon" on him. Impressive titles...
Opening of "Term..." : "The old wood cabin sat alone, surrounded by trees and darkness...A thin stream of smoke flowed out of the chimney...across the countryside..."
As I sit here, alone, in my humble abode surrounded by trees and darkness ...and the thin steam of smoke from my wood stove flowing off across the countryside...(well, it will be too soon dark, these short winter days in the north,) - I'm wondering if I could take his work right now. ;o)
Tom Clancy shivers my timbers...he also knows where the bodies are buried - and where more will be.
I read "Rainbow Six" some years back and thought: "Whoa. Wonder if that's a reality?" Now I know it is = got a family member in it - although it's obviously not called Rainbow Six.
