Not the first time a Nazi analogy has tripped lightly from his lips in this area, although like Cardinal Martino, he doesnt quite have the stones to own up to what he means. Hes not comparing Gaza to a German death camp, you see, just to your average, run-of-the-mill concentration camp. The fact that he coughed up the word blitzkrieg literally in the same breath is but an unhappy coincidence.

Buchanan jumped the shark long ago.
No surprise that MSNBC’s token (so-called) “conservative” despises Israel with a neonazi-like passion. Just like Evans and Novak (and Buchanan) on CNN in decades past.
Buchanan is better in the original German.
How does the Buchanan guard tower joke go?
Pat was interviewed this morning by one of our local talk show hosts, Mark Davis of WBAP. When he announced that Pat was up next I switched to another station and didn’t go back until Limbaugh time. Go Pat Go far away.
Anybody know why Buchanan hates Israel so much? Any insight that would help me understand his anti-Semitism would be greatly appreciated.
On one side of his mouth, Pat frets about the Death of the West. On the other side, he excoriates the Jews for defending themselves against the Muslims. I guess Pat hates the Jews more than he loves the West. I think Pat is on target about a great many things, but on this issue, he’s got a blind spot the size of a barn.
I apologize to any Jew here for ever supporting that anti-semitic bigot.
From what I understand (and my source comes from the time—decades ago—when Wm. F Buckley wrote a lot about antisemitism and, amongst other things, Buchanan), Pat grew up in a Washington, DC family where Jew-hating was preached at the dinner table by his overbearing father. It was what he grew up with...(this is not an excuse for him, just a reciting of the facts as I remember them).
Thanks for your quick response gives me a starting point for further investigation.
“Any insight that would help me understand his anti-Semitism would be greatly appreciated.”
Oscar Hammerstein II wrote this lyric for “South Pacific”:
You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear,
You’ve got to be taught from year to year,
It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear,
You’ve got to be carefully taught.
You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You’ve got to be carefully taught.
Not sure how much insight this provides, but here are a few jewels from Pat’s past utterances:
Buchanan referred to Capitol Hill as “Israeli-occupied territory.” (St. Louis Post Dispatch, 10/20/90)
During the first Gulf War crisis: “There are only two groups that are beating the drums for war in the Middle East — the Israeli defense ministry and its ‘amen corner’ in the United States.” (”McLaughlin Group,” 8/26/90)
In a 1977 column, Buchanan said that despite Hitler’s anti-Semitic and genocidal tendencies, he was “an individual of great courage...Hitler’s success was not based on his extraordinary gifts alone. His genius was an intuitive sense of the mushiness, the character flaws, the weakness masquerading as morality that was in the hearts of the statesmen who stood in his path.” (The Guardian, 1/14/92)
Writing of “group fantasies of martyrdom,” Buchanan challenged the historical record that thousands of Jews were gassed to death by diesel exhaust at Treblinka: “Diesel engines do not emit enough carbon monoxide to kill anybody.” (New Republic, 10/22/90) Buchanan’s columns have run in the Liberty Lobby’s Spotlight, the German-American National PAC newsletter and other publications that claim Nazi death camps are a Zionist concoction.
Buchanan called for closing the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigations, which prosecuted Nazi war criminals, because it was “running down 70-year-old camp guards.” (New York Times, 4/21/87)
F-U Pat Buchanan.
Is it just me, or is Mark Davis getting a little bit arrogant since he had the short stint at a national show...and has started subbing for Rush?
I used to really like his show..but he’s gotten a little schizophrenic. I seldom listen to him..Buchanan or not.
Rolling on the Floor, laughing myself silly.
This is perfect.
I was taught hate at the dinner table (back in the 50s), however, like most Americans, I overcame those dinner table pontifications. I realized, over time, that what my father preached at the dinner table was without merit. What happened to the well-educated Buchanan that didnt allow him to overcome his fathers ignorance?
Well, he's a big boy now and it's far past time to get a life and know what the truth is and start trying to be a decent person.
And it's time for our Jewish friends to STOP voting liberals into office (refer to demographics of '04 and this election), get a clue people. But now it's too late, we're in for the long haul. FReepers keep talking about election '10 and '12, once the Dems consolidate their power, what makes you think there will be open elections anymore? Franken is a case in point.
Read your history concerning Socialist/Communist take-overs, it's the same pattern that we're seeing now.
I have discovered that a small subset of conservatives literally hate Israel. Some of them actually think Israel is controlling US policy behind the scenes. It is amazing to see these folks, who are otherwise good, conservative people in most regards, become so agitated whenever Israel is mentioned. Pat Buchanan definitely fits the mold. He typically posts decent, rational articles until the topic of the Jews come up. Then his hatred overwhelms all rational thought.
It’s that thing about Jesus and the fellows who were against him. Hey, I don’t abide by any of that nonsense. Just explaining the roots. Catholics are funny about Jesus and stuff. :). Well not haha funny, but funny all the same. How does the line in the movie go? Nothing good can come from this (thread). :).
For more background see “Mel Gibson”.
Herr Buchanan is at it again, I see...
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Been that way for a long time. In fact, nowadays the percentage of pro-Israel conservatives is higher than ever. An encouraging trend. Conversely, the percentage of anti-Israel liberals is now higher than ever.
You’d think Israel would have control over its own concentration camp. /s
I am on another website that hosts debates and I am seeing alot of “concentration camp” terminology being thrown around there. Of course when you ask for proof there is none and when you point out that Egypt and Jordan don’t even want the “Palestinians” they really deafen you with their silence.
But still...is this some kind of new pro-Terrorist talking point, or what?
Are there any terms in his head that don’t come from the Third Reich?
Such a twisted, hate filled little man.
One can only hope he’s gone senile and doesn’t really know what’s coming out of his mouth. The alternative is just too terrible to contemplate.
Well, sure...but there are plenty of Catholics who do NOT learn Jew-hatred at the family dinner table to this degree.
I agree. He is really hard to listen too as he is arrogant and just flat talks too much. Thinks he is the funniest thing since the invention of the joke and a real music expert. I often have the feeling that he would rather play and talk about music, wish he would.
Thanks for the confirmation. I have been worrying lately about my tolerance level.
