No Joe, simply, they Can't.
With everything that's happened in Europe and the middle East this year, Russia is dropping a reminder here that they, with their partners pretty much have a monopoly on EU gas.

This is also a push to the European Union to stop the continued bureaucratic objections against German/Russian funded Gazprom plans for the circumvention of Ukraine for EU gas supplies via the Nord Stream Submarine gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea.

They want Ukraine discredited, then the EU will once and for all, blanket rubber stamp the project, nothing like empty winter gas pipes to force the Europeans into quashing the eco concerns of a few Scandinavian states.

This has been written for many years, since ex German Chancellor, Gerhard Schroder became Chairman of the BASF, EON and Gazprom owned North European Gas Pipeline (now called Nord Stream) pipeline project Committee.

The EU initially, officially endorsed the plans for the Nabucca pipeline, which runs from Iran/Azerbaijan through Turkey to Europe, but have since decided to mutedly endorse both.

Now you see why Germany don't want Turkey as part of the EU?
They will be an alternative to the Nord Stream gas supply route, with massive and rising transfer revenues, which currently get paid to Ukraine, going to Turkey. Nord Stream want that transit revenue!
They also want their newly signed contracts with Iran to build CLNG facilities to come to fruition.
Now you see why Germany is resisting any Eastward expansion of the EU, they simply don't want the EU to include any more gas connected Counties. They want the monopoly, with Russia and Iran for future EU gas supplies.

This is behind the reasons for the EU's quiesced, unfettered support for Iran and it's derivative countries, and most other middle East Countries, the EU is scared of an energy crisis, and will import anything, including people, culture, war and Islam to keep that energy supply alive.

You can apply the same analogy for Saudi, Yemeni and other middle East oil, they'll do absolutely anything to keep it flowing.

I don't need to repeat this on FR due to the obvious intelligentsia that write on FR, but I will as it's already common knowledge, the EU is vile and corrupt to the core.
The unelected eurocrats are ferocious communists, modelled from the end of the Stalinist era.
They've learnt to package their communism covertly under the mantra of equal opportunities and human rights, but the tiny, but consistent liberal, socialist steps they've subjected the EU to has been incredible effective in installing communism in Europe.

To repeat a quote I posted yesterday on FR to sum up what's happened to the EU:

"We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism."

- Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev, 1959

Replace 'Americans' with any other European Country you like, it's happened!

“Russian gas flows to Austria dropped 90 percent on Tuesday amid a dispute between Moscow and Ukraine”

European are a resourceful bunch. I’m sure they will find a way to take care of themselves. They might benefit by being forced off an oil dependency controlled by Russia.

Well, the Russians switch off Blue Stream gas through Turkey, they simply cease to make any money at all, and Europe is cold.
Here in the UK we have a moderate output from North Sea Gas to keep us going, but Southern Germany and Europe would be stuffed if they did that!
