Oh, I see your point. I have three in lamps, the rest are in ceiling fan fixtures and such. One of the lamps is in an outer shield like thing that looks like a regular light build (but bigger), but I have to admit its light quality sucks bad until it has warmed up.

Years ago I installed a light fixture in my bathroom ceiling. In it are two 250 watt heat lamps (the clear kind). It’s great on a chilly morning after I get out of the shower, and I’m sure it helps with SAD problems. It’s almost like sunlight.

The bulbs last a long time, but I will stock up to make sure the bulbs outlive me.

I will fight to the death if the Energy Police ever try to take that away from me.

I have some three-way CFLs.

CFLs take some time to reach full brightness in my experience,as much as five minutes.I use CFLs in places where I need light all the time for safety but prefer incandescents for everything else. The blue glass incandescents make more natural appearing light, and are best for reading or tasks.Cheap LED lighting can be found the next few weeks disguised as Christmas decorations on clearance.I find a 70 or 90 bulb string of white LEDs costing $5 makes a good pathway or hallway light.I intend to try poking the bulbs through a piece of perfboard(pegboard) for a cabin light.

Keep your eyes open for special pricing and stock up on incandescents .

Again, thanks to G.W.Bush's inability to use a veto pen we have more un-needed change forced on us.I wonder if the price of Democratic support for the WOT was mothballing the veto?

California has outlawed the incandescent as of 2010. I am currently stocking up. I hate fluorescent bulbs of any type. They do indeed trigger a migraine for me. But of course these are the same genious legislators who brought us the ever popular MTBE to help cut pollution. We are soooo screwed

It appears everyone will be ‘sharing’ the misery soon. Chin up.

Yes, my hope is LED technology moves fast enough to have usable bulbs in fixtures by 2011. I am one of those people (my sister is worse) that does not function well with flourescent lighting. LED products are much easier, even than incandescents.

I’ve been stocking up on incandescent bulbs so that I have enough for at least ten years. One of the marks of a burgeoning banana republic will be the appearance of a black markets for goods like light bulbs.

I don’t have trouble with the CFL bulbs.

But I find the LED lights that are used for Christmas decorations kind of give me a headache because they “flash” at 60hz.

The LED lights being sold for lighting are filtered better, but are more expensive.

The government should have just thrown a tax on incandescents, so those of us who WANTED them could still buy them, and the government could collect money to pay for the free CFL distributions they will want to do for poor people.

For a long time there was a market for banned refrigerants, and I also remember I think there was a market for some banned anti-freeze.

What is really funny is that incandescents aren’t harmful to anybody, they just use electricity. But the government banned them, while NOT banning cigarettes, which are actually harmful.

Of course, the government has convinced the public that high cigarette taxes are great, while the government probably doesn’t think the public would go for a “sin tax” on incandescent bulbs.

“WHEN”? They already have. The bulbs will be phased out here too within a couple of years.

Does anyone realize that almost all CFL bulbs are made in China?

LED is safer, practically shockproof and is not limited to a blue look.

If enough production was started the price would come down but no instead we are addicted to Chinese imports.

There is an extreme limited amount of LED lamps available for home use using 120VAC, however if an educated person was to install a low voltage 12VDC wiring then it does illuminate a new area literally, many boats, RVs now use LED lighting.

CFL is bad, its poisonous, and usually does not live up to the hours rated, almost every 5 or 7 year CFL I have bought dies after two years.

Most LEDs will not even start to minorly dim after 50,000 to 100,000 hours which is over 11 years.

“When they mandate this here, we’ll burn candles.”

Or just order regular bulbs via the Internet. They won't be illegal everywhere.

You can get incandescent light bulbs rated for 25,000 hours that are used by the hospitality industry. If you use them for an average of 7 hours a day they’ll burn out in just a little under 10 years and cost about a buck or less per bulb depending on how many you buy.

Once you stock up all you’ll have to do is watch out for the light bulb police who’ll be monitoring everyone who might be using those unauthorized, evil incandescents!
