Levi Johnston quits oil field job (Libs cost him his job!)
Anchorage Daily News ^ | January 5, 2009 | WESLEY LOY

Posted on 01/06/2009 5:42:23 AM PST by Virginia Ridgerunner

Levi Johnston, the boyfriend of Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, has quit his North Slope oil field job over questions about his eligibility to work in an electrical apprenticeship program, Johnston's father said Monday.

Johnston, 18, began working this fall in the Milne Point oil field with ASRC Energy Services Inc., a major Slope contractor.

In a Sunday newspaper column, Anchorage radio talk show host Dan Fagan questioned how Johnston could take part in ASRC's apprenticeship program without a high school diploma.

Fagan said he understood federal regulations require all members of apprenticeship programs to have a diploma. He also questioned whether the governor might have had a hand in getting Johnston into the program.

Palin adamantly denied that Monday.

Johnston's father, Keith Johnston, said the governor had nothing to do with getting Levi the Slope job. Keith Johnston said his own position as an ASRC construction engineer accounts for any help his son received in landing work.

A couple of things here...

1) Lib prying and pressure cost this boy his apprenticeship.

2) Levi's dad helped get his apprenticeship, not Governor Palin or Todd.

Hey rules are rules. Get your diploma and come back! That should have been the first thing his Dad told him IMO.

So he could work there because of his qualifications. The irony and hypocracy are mind boggeling.

For those who thing we should play nice with the libs remember this. They will seek to destroy your family if you oppose them.

Levi’s liberal error was that he was hard working and supporting his family and not on welfare with a wife and baby.

The media is going after the whole family hoping Sarah will decide against public life and a run for higher office. The Palin’s are tight enough that they’ve probably had many family meetings to discuss this very subject. These are Mafia techniques. Threatening family members (with their lives) to get public officials to work with them.

One thing to remember, though, when dealing with libs,

any deference to “rules” is simply lip service and only adhered to when the rules favor their desired outcome.

Conservatives, on the other hand, will accept unfavorable results as long as the previously agreed upon rules are followed fairly.

Years ago such jobs did not require high school diplomas. Not all kids are cut out for school. We are making a serious mistake the way we view education in this country. I had a friend in High School-Dale- hated school. It was truly torture for him. He only stayed there because of his Mom; she wanted him to finish so much. As soon as he got out, he opened a business fixing lawnmowers and other small engines. This was in CT. He saved his money and bought property. The boy has more money-real wealth-than any of us who went the college.

Hey if Sarah is gonna run on how she stops corruption and rule breakers and then get on stage in front of the world

and say shes not here to please the media and coldnt care less what they think then she knows she and her family better tow the line or it will be know far and wide.

If the rules are you have to have a highschool degree to qualify then he has to have a degree, period....not that hard.

In reading the article, it turns out the lib newscaster was wrong. It is NOT federally mandated that one has to have a diploma to be eligible. That is a company rule and therefore the company may or may not choose to enforce it.

1. In a perfect world, Levi should follow the rules, just as everyone else should. That's not an unreasonable requirement - either get that rule changed or follow that rule.

2. In our actual imperfect world where the liberal jackals in the media are using a scorched earth policy against anyone associated with Governor Palin, it would be prudent for Levi, his mother, Palin's cousin's babysitter, and everyone else who is likely to be targeted to make sure that they are net setting a toe out of line. Anyone within six degrees of separation from the Governor is going to be ripped to shreds on the slimmest of excuses, and today was Levi's turn. Again.

I'm a huge fan of Gov Palin and I hope to have a chance to vote for her in 2012. Of course, this story is not really about her.

I think rules are rules and the kid shouldn't have been in the program. I don't know if his father's influence was improper -- often that stuff is perfectly fine. However, is this was improper string-pulling (nepotism) then it is shameful.

Again, this is not about Gov. Palin at all. It's not about Republicans at all. However, the GOP would be advised to oppose ANY impropriety ANYWHERE. No improper influence, no corruption, no rule breaking. The GOP should have no tolerance for any of it.

The Dempocrats are going to hand us about 9732 instances of corruption and rule breaking. But all of that will be washed away if the media can find 5 instances of Republican malfeasance. Republicans need to be very careful about shrugging at impropriety.

Unless I missed it, the article doesn't actually say it IS a requirement - just that the op ed writer said he 'understood' that it was. Op ed writers have been known to 'understand' things that aren't true. ;)

I don't know how I thought following the rules and getting ones degree at the high school level was anything more than a foolish rant.

Of course the fact that the young mans father agrees with me and according to the article is continuing down the path I suggested is meaninless. (snort)

Lib prying and pressure

It appears to be the result of Dan Fagan's newspaper column on Levi Johnston. After checking out Fagan's bio at his radio station, it also appears that he is a conservative talk show host, not a lib.

This was a non story, Levi's father got him the job which happens every single day in virtually every company in this United States. Rules are bent too, thats just the way it is in life

This jackass Fagan is nothing more than a self serving, self promoting grandstander making news out of no news..........

The prick reminds me of a guy who used to be a gossip columnist for the Detroit News many years ago. The guy's sister was my niece's best friend.

Anyway, he took an almost sadistic delight in digging up personal dirt on local celebrities and prominent business people then publishing it in his column.

Well that all came to a screeching halt one day when it was discovered this his dad, a prominent local judge, was a bigamist who literally had a second wife and family living on the far west side of Detroit........

Shortly thereafter, Matt Beer, now the laughing stock of Detroit, resigned from the newspaper and split for the west coast.........good riddance!

Pricks like Fagan always seem to have skeletons in their own closets and sooner or later what goes around is going to come around.

Why the rudeness? As a poster pointed out, a high school diploma is not federally mandated for this job. My wife taught high school and has long blamed the high drop out rate in many shcools on the fact that some kids just don’t belong there-not to mention as states have ‘toughened’ their curriculum some kids can’t make it. Bill Gates has called High School obsolete and said it needs to be changed to fit modern life. It is not necessary to have a college bound high school degree to do some jobs and should not be mandated. There is nothing wrong with trade. We have become degree mad in the last decade or two.

This is a pile of stinking moose poop.

Levi is a productive member of society, providing for his wife and newborn child. If he was black, there would be howls of indignity—the “man” trying to keep a good brother down and all that baloney.

Time for a conservative in AK to step up to the plate, and hire Levi while he is getting his GED.

To work as a roustabout—guess what—a diploma and toilet paper carry the same weight. Levi probably knows more about oil rigs and electrical work than most people, even at 18.

Job #2 for some AK conservatives: the game can be played both ways. Let’s see if Dan Fagan has unpaid parking tickets or library fines.

After all RULES ARE RULES.

You betcha.

You’re missing the point. The company hired him knowing his qualifications (or lack thereof) that’s their prerogative. It wasn’t until people on the outside stuck their noses where they didn’t belong, and made it an issue, that the pressure forced him to have to leave.

"You guys are watching him so tightly," Johnston said, referring to the media. "He's being treated different than an average 18-year-old kid. He has to do everything by the book now."

(snip)

Palin, in an interview Monday, said she considered Fagan's column "a political potshot taken at me," one that threatens to "destroy a young man's opportunity for work."

These two statements are key I think. The requirement for a high school diploma was NOT a federal requirement, but a company policy that the company chose to not enforce at the time of Levi's hiring for whatever reason.

Levi is in fact being treated differently than the average 18-year-old kid, and he has to be royally pissed off about it. But, he is handling himself well, and not physically going after the libs who are attacking him, like I would have done when I was a hot-headed youth of 18 back in the good ol' days.

Next, Governor Palin is exactly right in that these indirect potshots taken at her are in fact damaging Levi's employability. I mean, who would want to hire this young man knowing that lib scum will be nosing around their business practices and policies just to get at Governor Palin through Levi.

Simply disgusting!

A couple of things that Sarah needs to watch out for (as well as Bobby Jindal):

1. How many U.S. Attorneys and what kind are attached to the District Offices in Juneau and Anchorage. Also, you want to look at the U.S. Attorneys attached to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. I predict a constant series of civil rights, labor rights, and other cases in Federal Court naming Palin and Jindal as defendants.

2. Levi Johnston needs to graduate from High School and join the U.S. Army. A drill instructor will square him away, and get him access to G.I. benefits. He has a wife and kid now.

Best,

Chris
