RNC chair race: 'Everyone is basically p-ssed' By: Alexander Burns January 4, 2009 05:50 PM EST
As Republicans struggle to determine the future of their party after a tough election, intraparty tensions have flared over three forums next week that may prove crucial to determining the winner of the six-way race for the chair of the Republican National Committee a post that will hold considerable sway over the direction of the GOP.
Some people are p-ssed off at [Americans for Tax Reform President] Grover [Norquist]. Some people are p-ssed off at the Conservative Steering Committee. Some people are pissed off at [current RNC chair] Mike Duncan. Some people are p-ssed off at social conservatives. The social conservatives are p-ssed at leaders in Congress, said a Republican consultant who has worked with the RNC. Everyone is basically p-ssed.
The busy upcoming week begins with a debate hosted by the conservative group Americans for Tax Reform on Monday, a set of meetings hosted Tuesday by a group of RNC members calling themselves the Conservative Steering Committee, and finally a special meeting of the full RNC on Wednesday.
Just three weeks later, the 168 RNC members will meet again in Washington to elect their next chairman an officer tasked with enormous fundraising and managerial responsibilities, and with the potential to be an important carrier of the Republican message.
I think that whats said, the responses to the candidates at all of these forums, are going to be distributed out to all the members, said Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Gary Jones, who supports former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwells bid for the chairmanship.

Which for some time now seems to have been "We're Democrat-Lite."
The Democrats sure beat the devil out of the party with that one in 2006, and that should still be an issue to resolve.
Did they get rid of those guys or are they still around working as staffers for somebody?
Pissed drunk? Because that would explain their electoral performance...
I’m not p*ssing away money on these folks. I give directly to specific campaigns.
Put another RINO in charge and see how much more pissed we can be.
Great GOP leadership, creating such disarray resulting in this pi**ing contest. They all need to remember that the constituency is also pi**ed because Conservatism has been abandoned.
The idiots cost me a good conservative congressman here in Michigan. They withdrew financial support because they said he was a lost cause.
Some lost cause. He lost by 2% in a 4 way race.
They called me too! I said the same thing.
WTF is a "Social Conservative? Rino's and moderates have ruined this party, they have no right to be pissed off at anything! Everybody else should be pissed off royally at these moderate Mike Duncan idiots. They are nothing less than a bunch of useless losers.
Conservatives need to bring it now and crush these pansies!
“RNC called me last week begging for money.”
They called me a few weeks ago and harassed me! They kept begging and begging. I told them that I really couldn’t do a donation at that time and they kept asking and asking and asking! They wouldn’t stop! I finally had to politely say I had to go and then hung up.
I cannot believe that the GOP is using these tactics. You don’t harass your supporters for money. People should give on their own free will.
Not to mention the Constitution.
GUP The Greatly Urined Party.
Lovely.

Really?
Who, and why exactly?
Oh, this is Leftilico.
Never mind....
Honestl,y I thought Newt would make a good chairman, but after some of the comments I’ve been reading he has made, I’m looking toward Steele. Can we just get an honest friggin’ conservative????!
Blackwell and a few others appear able to talk the talk and walk the walk, which is the minimum required.
But neither Blackwell or others with solid conservative credentials appears to me as a master strategist or brilliant tactician, which is absolutely required.
It’s going to take more than fund raising ability and a set of conservative positions to win in 2010.
It’s going to take a Petraeus-like general to rout ACORN and the like in 2010.
Sorry.. Blackwell is the Anti-Bama and a great choice.
The RNC ought to get p-ssed at the Democrats. Then they might do some good!
PHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhuck the rnc.
Sadly, my candidate for governor did that, calling back every few days as the elections got close. You could almost feel the desperation... and I soon learned that if I didn't know the number I shouldn't answer to avoid the strong arm-twisting they were employing. I supported him to the end, but the degree began to drop.
It wasn't like this in 2004. I think he wound up with some really bad handlers -- he was open, accessible, friendly in 2004, but in 2008 he was just... wooden.
Just think, what a wonderful world it would be if Palin and Jindahl would run for Prez and VP under a new party banner. It would be the bullet in the brain that the GOP so desperately needs.
Well, there’s an old saying: It’s better to be p-ssed off than it is to be p-ssed on.
Ok Freepers, lets just tell them what you are p*ss off about.
Me? No real progress on illegals, Same old cronies, same old ideas. No b**ls to get down and dirty with the Demos.
You?
Michael Steele is a gun-grabber and backs Affirmative Action. Why do so many people support him? I don’t get it.
Actually there is very little difference between the Republican Party leadership and the Democrats. After the Bush push to provide amnesty for 20 million illegal aliens and the massive spending by the Republicans, you might as well say that there is no difference.
George W Bush is the worst thing that has happened to the Republican Party since Nixon created Affirmative Action. Today I saw his father talking about how he wanted Jeb Bush to become president.
I have had enough of that family and I no longer have any faith in the Republican Party. I suspect that the two party system has been nothing but a shell game to swindle the American people.
I'll have to listen to him. If he can't speak and persuade then his idealogy is irrelevant. First and foremost we need new leaders that can communicate and happen to be conservative. Just being conservative is not enough. I am not interested in a choir director.
These factions have always been there, but as John Madden puts it, “Winning is a great deodorant.” But once you lose, it gets ugly.
Well, there are some people that are directly culpable - and that is the RNC leadership; mostly Bushies put in by the president. They all need to go. Because of their abandonement of conservatrism they have got their asses handed to them in the past 2 elections.
They’re not going to change a thing, just move the mirrors and blow more smoke.

And he said that nine years ago.
I believe we might be seeing the decline and fall of the Republican’t party. Not sure if this is the decline part or the fall part. More likely the later.
Yep, that would include me.
IMHO, the Republican party stands at a crossroad. They can continue to be Democrat Lite (”like a Republican, but without a spine”) or they can choose a true, hard-core, dyed in the wool conservative that is not afraid of hand to hand combat with the RATS.
I sincerely hope they choose the latter, somebody in the mold of Mike Pence or Jim DeMint.
If they don’t the pubbies are finished, the RATS will reign supreme and our country will be dead in a few years.
Kick McAmnesty out of the party. He’s the main cancer.
I told them to get a spine and grow a pair! I’m not giving you any money until you do!!!!!!
Ah, the every present un-named consultant. Didn't Fox News get taken in by one of those that turned out to be a fraud spreading negative stuff about Palin after the election? I wont believe a single one of these unnamed sources again. Todays journalists are not reliable or responsible.
And the six RNC Chairman contenders are:
Saul Anuzis .. Michigan
J. Kenneth Blackwell .. Ohio
Katon Dawson .. South Carolina
Mike Duncan .. Ch. RNC
Chip Saltsman .. Tennessee
Michael S. Steele .. Maryland
Can anyone of the six unify the party and halt the inner party fighting that has developed? I doubt it.
Precisely why I prefer Blackwell!
(wouldn't it be a little less crude if conservatives spelt the expression "pissed" as pist, instead? "Pissed" is a liberal expression and is really down in the gutter with the guttersnipes! Try "pist" for awhile and see if it doesn't give you an improved sense of moral superiority like the libs always exhibit and we all know is totally false and absurd!!!)
I can assure you, as a volunteer on a number of campaigns starting in 1988, that at the local level it is NOT a swindle. We get some excellent candidates and sometimes they even get elected.
Getting and holding control at the state level is very difficult (we're in a blue state). National, well...

Yep.
I’ve been beating that drum on FR for 2 years now.
Steele is not the answer.
Sadly, even conservatives are giving him a pass because he is black.
Get some real conservative leadership in the RNC and they can wipe the floor with the Dems for the next four years. Otherwise it will be a descent into obscurity.
