RNC chair race: 'Everyone is basically p-ssed'

RNC chair race: 'Everyone is basically p-ssed' By: Alexander Burns January 4, 2009 05:50 PM EST

As Republicans struggle to determine the future of their party after a tough election, intraparty tensions have flared over three forums next week that may prove crucial to determining the winner of the six-way race for the chair of the Republican National Committee — a post that will hold considerable sway over the direction of the GOP.

“Some people are p-ssed off at [Americans for Tax Reform President] Grover [Norquist]. Some people are p-ssed off at the Conservative Steering Committee. Some people are pissed off at [current RNC chair] Mike Duncan. Some people are p-ssed off at social conservatives. The social conservatives are p-ssed at leaders in Congress,” said a Republican consultant who has worked with the RNC. “Everyone is basically p-ssed.”

The busy upcoming week begins with a debate hosted by the conservative group Americans for Tax Reform on Monday, a set of meetings hosted Tuesday by a group of RNC members calling themselves the Conservative Steering Committee, and finally a special meeting of the full RNC on Wednesday.

Just three weeks later, the 168 RNC members will meet again in Washington to elect their next chairman — an officer tasked with enormous fundraising and managerial responsibilities, and with the potential to be an important carrier of the Republican message.

“I think that what’s said, the responses to the candidates at all of these forums, are going to be distributed out to all the members,” said Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Gary Jones, who supports former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell’s bid for the chairmanship.

So, where are the Republicans angry with the House of Representatives Republican leadership team who put a bunch of homosexuals in charge of the House page program?

The Democrats sure beat the devil out of the party with that one in 2006, and that should still be an issue to resolve.

Did they get rid of those guys or are they still around working as staffers for somebody?

Some lost cause. He lost by 2% in a 4 way race.

“RNC called me last week begging for money.”

They called me a few weeks ago and harassed me! They kept begging and begging. I told them that I really couldn’t do a donation at that time and they kept asking and asking and asking! They wouldn’t stop! I finally had to politely say I had to go and then hung up.

I cannot believe that the GOP is using these tactics. You don’t harass your supporters for money. People should give on their own free will.

Blackwell and a few others appear able to talk the talk and walk the walk, which is the minimum required.

But neither Blackwell or others with solid conservative credentials appears to me as a master strategist or brilliant tactician, which is absolutely required.

It’s going to take more than fund raising ability and a set of conservative positions to win in 2010.

It’s going to take a Petraeus-like general to rout ACORN and the like in 2010.

I cannot believe that the GOP is using these tactics. You don’t harass your supporters for money. People should give on their own free will.

Sadly, my candidate for governor did that, calling back every few days as the elections got close. You could almost feel the desperation... and I soon learned that if I didn't know the number I shouldn't answer to avoid the strong arm-twisting they were employing. I supported him to the end, but the degree began to drop.

It wasn't like this in 2004. I think he wound up with some really bad handlers -- he was open, accessible, friendly in 2004, but in 2008 he was just... wooden.

Actually there is very little difference between the Republican Party leadership and the Democrats. After the Bush push to provide amnesty for 20 million illegal aliens and the massive spending by the Republicans, you might as well say that there is no difference.

George W Bush is the worst thing that has happened to the Republican Party since Nixon created Affirmative Action. Today I saw his father talking about how he wanted Jeb Bush to become president.

I have had enough of that family and I no longer have any faith in the Republican Party. I suspect that the two party system has been nothing but a shell game to swindle the American people.

I'll have to listen to him. If he can't speak and persuade then his idealogy is irrelevant. First and foremost we need new leaders that can communicate and happen to be conservative. Just being conservative is not enough. I am not interested in a choir director.

IMHO, the Republican party stands at a crossroad. They can continue to be Democrat Lite (”like a Republican, but without a spine”) or they can choose a true, hard-core, dyed in the wool conservative that is not afraid of hand to hand combat with the RATS.

I sincerely hope they choose the latter, somebody in the mold of Mike Pence or Jim DeMint.

If they don’t the pubbies are finished, the RATS will reign supreme and our country will be dead in a few years.

Saul Anuzis .. Michigan

J. Kenneth Blackwell .. Ohio

Katon Dawson .. South Carolina

Mike Duncan .. Ch. RNC

Chip Saltsman .. Tennessee

Michael S. Steele .. Maryland

Can anyone of the six unify the party and halt the inner party fighting that has developed? I doubt it.

I suspect that the two party system has been nothing but a shell game to swindle the American people.

I can assure you, as a volunteer on a number of campaigns starting in 1988, that at the local level it is NOT a swindle. We get some excellent candidates and sometimes they even get elected.

Getting and holding control at the state level is very difficult (we're in a blue state). National, well...
