"...they need to work together for the good of the country [or the success of Barack Obama."

WHICH IS IT?

It can't be both.

We've heard the same crap after every election for as long as I can remember. I don't want any elephants to "reach across the aisle" unless they intend to choke the donkeys.

Just like they did with Bush, right? And then we were at war, a war that the Democrats voted for no less. Didn't even slow them down, in fact they sped it up, heaped on the criticism, Democrats trashed the USA anyway they could .. so I say BS to this.

C’mon Mitch, grow some cojones. Are you going to just stand there and let nObama and his goons dismantle our country?

I want to hear you say you’re gonna fight like Hell against every socialist/Marxist idea/plan/scheme/legislation he proposes.

You want some help? Fine, start with his $1,000,000,000,000 plan to bankrupt our country’s future with a “stimulus package” that is doomed even before it becomes law.

Translation: McConnell’s testicles are in Reid’s lockbox.

Lott, Frist, McConnell—have we any other losers waiting in the wings?

It would be funny if the fate of the country wasn’t hanging in the balance.

Let us not go knee jerk before the real work starts. I doubt very much that McConnel and most Republicans want Obama socialist and left wing agenda to succeed.

Before I clicked on this thread I knew from the title that it was a Politico piece. These guys at the politico have perfected the art of writing their articles to divide and conquer the Republican base in particular the internet political junkies on the conservative side. They enjoy very much the conservative blogosphere attacking the Republicans on each turn and many on our side are making Politico work an easy job.

Then why did McConnell and so many Republicans vote to pass HR 1424, the financial services bailout bill?

“Unity” sucks when the bad guys get THEIR way everytime. I say we have the same kind of “unity” that we’ve enjoyed for the past 8 years. THERE ARE TWO AMERICAS. There is us and there is them. Barack the Kenyan is not “magic” in my eyes. He’s just another crooked Chicago politician. McConnell needs to figure that out.

I don't want Obama to be a successful communist in my country.

I don't want him taking from the productive working people and giving their money to the lazy asses looking for a hand-out.

I don't want him spending my grandchildren into poverty with government giveaways.

I don't want him pushing abortion like it's ice cream.

I don't want him raising taxes on gasoline.

I don't want him dismantling our military and refusing to support development of future weapon systems.

I don't want him apologizing to the world for my country, which thus far he has failed to prove is HIS country of citizenship.

I don't want the bastard mocking those who believe strongly in the right to keep and bear arms which is guaranteed to all Americans in our constitution.

He has defined success as the destruction of America that way it was founded and has succeeded.

I wish him nothing but misery and failure in his efforts to successfully destroy America.

If he wants Americans to step up and give selflessly of themselves, maybe he could set an example by giving access to his long-form birth certificate, his complete college records, and the names of the sources of all of his college and law school tuition.

We shouldn't give the time of day to a fraud and liar who uses aliases and false personal memoirs.

I’ve had a belly full of ‘bipartisanship’. I’m ready for a fight. Congress ought to like a ‘B’ western barroom brawl. When the democrats reach across the isle, they need to pull back a nub.

Jveritas has it right. Politico has a long history of spreading Democrat propaganda. I'll wait to hear it from McConnell's words.

My advice to you Jean is don't be such a propaganda sop.

I don’t have any idea what a “sop” is but I have seen the rino McConnell on TV before. He’ll say nearly exactly what the Politico is predicting if he behaves as usual.

It is part of the game. Now and until the next congress is in session the Republicans will talk about working together with Democrats.

The Democrats will talk about working together with Republicans. But as we have seen in the stimulus package, the Democrats won’t even show it to Republicans before the Democrats bring it to the floor for a vote.

The idea is for Republicans to create the impression that they are going to try to work with Democrats for the good of the nation. Democrats are saying the same thing. Democrats will hope to blame the Republicans if Obama’s agenda does not get passed. But if Republicans keep saying they are trying to work with Democrats and the public knows the Democrats are in power, the voters will blame the Democrats for their failure to get the Obama agenda passed. The Democrat base will be ticked when the Obama agenda does not get passed.

If you recall after the 1992 election the Republicans in the house and senate blocked every Clinton initiative they could ... including Hillary Care. The Republicans stalled, trashed and did all they could to block everything the Clintons tried.

The conventional wisdom was that the voters would teach the Republicans a lesson come the 1994 elections. The media was astounded when Republicans for the first time in 40 years won both the house and the senate. Clinton to get some legislation passed adopted much of the Republican agenda. From his state of the union speech with the works “The era of big Government is over!” to welfare reform Clinton adopted much of the conservative agenda.

It was a lesson not lost on Democrats in 2001 as they started their 8 year obstructionism of the Bush administration.

Now it is the Republicans turn to stop the Democrats in their tracks. When Republicans have control of even one of the houses of congress or the presidency there is motivation to try to get some things passed. But when a party does not have the house, senate or the presidency it has every motivation to stop the other party from getting anything done.

The voters blame the party in power when things don’t get done. Even if it is the out of power party doing the blocking.

Both the Democrats and the Republicans know that Republicans in the Senate are going to try to block the Obama agenda. Reid is saying ... “You are going to block us anyway, why should I involve you in the stimulus bill creation process.”

This is the first time since 1992 that the Republicans had lots of motivation for making sure nothing gets done. As long as Bush is president they have motivation to try to work with Democrats. Now that Republicans have lost the house, senate and the presidency they have every motivation to see Obama fail.

As of January 20th they will have every reason to make Obama and congress a failure. That is what they will do.

McConnell is a fool. It seems to me that the two parties are working together AND AGAINST THE INTERESTS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Examples: Amnesty for illegal aliens, out-of-control spending, bail-outs for favored interest groups, continuation of welfare benefits for those who can and should do for themselves, and, of course, trade agreements that allow foreign workers to gain an advantage over American workers, further hurting our economy.

It is increasingly looking like the American people vs. the two major parties, though they try to play up their differences during election seasons.
