Well we’ve reached DeToqueville’s tipping point. 50 percent of us think they can vote themselves money from the Public Treasury

I’m afraid it is more than 50%, much more.

Obama looks set to make the same mistakes that every president and prime minister seems to make since John Maynard Keynes left kindergarten. Pay off debt with more debt, and pay back gambling debts with more gambling. It looks like a knee-jerk reaction by now, it’s the only trick they know.

....the stagflationary 70’s killed (or rather I say should have killed), Keynesian theory given that the “impossible” happened (rising unemployment and rising inflation).

(Don’t believe in inflationary spiral? Try this:)

Gee. I wasn't expecting this from the propaganda ministry (formerly known as "the media").

Blame the Republicans.

Oh, and fabricate an "unnamed aid" with a "compromise" that's most of the way to where they want.

I don't have a lot of faith in the Repbulicans, but does anyone really believe that this alleged Republican Aide actually suggested that $500 billion is an acceptable plan.

A Senate Republican aide, who asked not to be identified, said Democrats could build stronger, bipartisan support with an economic stimulus measure costing less -- around $500 billion.

I'll bet my next paycheck the Senate aid works for McCain. And the $500 billion is a start ... and there will be no cuts in spending ...

It’s time to write our Senators asking for a hold to be placed on zero’s economic stimulus? bill until the voters get a chance to read it over and some fair minded economists come up with meaningful analysis of its benefits versus its pitfalls. You can read pork all over piglosi’s face.

I really do believe that most of the people who are elected officals could not/would not make it in the public sector.

If they acted as arrogant and shameless in the public sector they would be forever jobless.

If there is a more worthless group of people I want someone to point them out.

“What Republicans??”

I think they’re talking about the party that didn’t bother stopping the trillion dollars we’ve already spent preventing an inevitable decline in productivity.

They’ll slow them just enough to earn themselves the blame when Obama ruins what’s left of the economy.

I tend to agree with you.

While the right thing to do is to block the socialism and the ruination that's to come from the Obama administration and the democrats who now control the economy, if the republicans do enough to block those programs and policies, then the democrats will have some grounds for placing the blame on the republicans, and with the blame and as good as the democrats are at spinning, they'll be able to plead their cases to the American people and get voted in again in 2010 and 2012.

While the worst thing to do is to allow the destruction of the American economy in the next 2 to 4 years, the country will not move towards recovery until the people have seen and tasted the bad medicines the democrats have in mind for the ailing economy.

So, in order to start towards a true recovery, the republicans should allow Americans to see and experience, the destructive programs and policies of the democrats.

Regrettable, I say, let the democrats play their hands. Hopefully, the destruction will not be so bad that recovery will be impossible.
