WASHINGTON, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Russia is testing a new missile for its formidable S-400 Triumf air defense system that, if it performs according to its claimed specifications, is the most formidable long-range anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense system in the world.
Three-star Col. Gen. Alexander Zelin, the commander of the Russian air force, announced testing plans for the new missile Tuesday, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

And maybe not.
Then again, UPI may not know what the h-— it’s talking about, as usual.
more Russian junk.....
all talk
where’s the successful shoot downs ?
all talk
Isnt this the same one they had to self destruct in tests over kamchatca because it was a POS?
I believe it! That Russian air defense system the Syrians installed worked superbly.
The Russians are such duplicitous bastards (I wonder how many people have forgotten that the Soviets were ALLIES of the Nazis at the beginning of WWII, and took part in the invasion of Poland in 1939!), and they scream and moan about us developing anti-missile systems yet they develop the same thing. NEVER trust the Russians. Patton was right, we should have kicked their asses in 1945.
In its tests, the missile system worked well against Korean airliners. /s
Wasn't there a civilian airliner over Ukraine awhile back?
Give them to Syria. The IDF will be happy to test them out again.
“more Russian junk.....

No, it’s a formidable system, even as a standalone pop-up threat. These are the systems that mission planners worry about the most.
i vividly remember dan rather doing a story before the Iraq invasion about how much better the Iraqi artillery was than the US artillery. He was so so sure of his little self.
Hmmm.. dont remember hearing much about Iraq artillery, do you? i mean after the war actually started.
Not even close.
Individually, the Iraqis had some seriously good hardware.
Some of it was better than US standard tube arty.
The problem was:
1. They didn’t have enough of it.
2. They lacked the C3I and targeting ability to use it.
3. We blew it up before they got a chance to fire a shot.
They fought a long, hard war with Iran and had significant opportunities to replace their older Soviet gear with new stuff.
The US Army builds in quantity and keeps its equipment for a long time.
That’s why we win.
Is that the one that protected Syria against an attempted intrusion by Israel about a year ago or so?
I think we now have a reason to push our second rate system up grade through congress. It is suicide to fall behind and become a third rate country under the leadership of the Barak-Harry-Nancy Trinity.
Bailout our defense.
The Russians have a word for this-BOLSHOI!
The F-22 has the radar signature of a mosquito. You think they can lock onto a mosquito? And you know, if we can make a manned jet fighter stealthy like that, imagine what we can do with ICBMs and such.
I dont know my next door neighbor did not like his Apache getting peppered much.
IF it performs according to its claimed specifications
If can be a mighty big word
Hehe people always yell at me man.
I just report ... and i am biased, and i dont care about balance or any other horse...
“Russia’s S-400 air defense system may be world’s best”
I would imagine, on paper, it is. ;)
In 5 wars over almost a half century we have lost about 500 aircraft. 95% were caused by other than radar SAMs. They have been a 5% annoyance at most.
Godspeed.
might want to check with Syria on that... caveat emptor!!!
Okay who are the H1Bs working on our systems here and to whom do we outsource other work?
“The F-22 has the radar signature of a mosquito.”
Stealth is not invisibility, and the advantage degrades with time. This system will be avoided by F-22’s and other stealth systems, the problem is, that you can’t be certain where they’ll show up because they are highly mobile.
If you fly too close to it, it will shoot you down, even in an F-22.
Chances are the US, or Israel already has the plans, diagrams and specs of this system and if its even half as good as the Russkis say, we are working on contermeasures.
Expect a dramatic decrease in the migrating bird population in Russia next year.
Not familiar with this particular system, but some of their newer big SAMs are bad mofos.
'Xactly.
New and improved. Fool proof. The last word in air defense. Can not be defeated! Better than anything the West can field!
And the IAF (maybe with some help) blew threw it like crap through a goose.
Commrades, at least the rag heads believe your used car salesman crap, so if ya got a buyer, it must be good, right?
lol
Where is that BS meter? It ought to be pegged so far over that the needle is bent.
One word. Decoys.
Yes he was.
And so was Big Doug in Korea.
Lot better than the runaway USN Stringer that was tested on N93119!
:->
“The silly bastards don’t even know how to spell ‘Triumph’.
For that reason alone, I doubt they will experience any.”
I hear the word “Triumph” and it immediately makes me think of leaks and faulty electricals. Doesn’t exactly strike fear in my heart...
Russian and Chinese "junk" ended when the Chinese began making all the IC's and CPU's in the world. After that, it's just a matter of programming.....
Do you know how good the 125mm gun on a T-90 tank is?
Have they improved the power of their 125mm tank gun since the gulf war or is it still incapable of fighting a M1A2 or a Leopard 2?
Obviously the T-90’s armor sucks but I wonder about whether the gun can defeat Western tank armor.
I know the Kornet missile knocked out some Israeli Merkava tanks in the 2006 Lebanon war. The dangerous thing about Russian weapons is they keep it simple and deadly without too many engineering bells and whistles.

Of course if the IDF had been allowed to stick to their original plan which involved using airborne forces to hopscotch OVER, and to simply drive AROUND the Hezbollah Maginot line and take them from behind rather than the ludicrous, stop-start, hey-diddle-diddle, straight-up-the-middle farce that transpired, said ATGW would never have had a chance to score.
I don’t know anything about the T-90.
I think they lost because they didn’t start with a land attack instead of useless artillery and air barrage. To fight insurgents you have to go in with heavy land forces to clear them out not using JDAMs from thousands of feet in the sky.
Ok.
BIG ? Or are you looking for the right russian word.
S-400 .... DERMO.
They had enough .... Got a nice piece delivered to me upclose and almost personal by them. Sitting on my mantlepiece as it was fortunately addressed "To whom it may concern" rather than to me personally.
