Gov. Rod Blagojevich is expected today to name former Illinois Atty. Gen. Roland Burris to replace President-elect Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate.
The action comes despite warnings by Democratic Senate leaders that they would not seat anyone appointed by the disgraced governor who faces criminal charges of trying to sell the post, sources familiar with the decision said.

In-your-face from Blago to everyone who wanted him to resign without appointing someone to fill Obambi’s seat.....
I only hope Blago takes them all down with him.
I believe the Secretary of State of Illinois or some state official has to give his imprimatur in order for the choice to be validated. Also, the U.S. Senate can refuse to seat him.
Burris is the guy who, a few years ago when running for Illinois governor, referred to his opponents as “white boys”.
It was kinda funny because he said it at some place like a black church where it was taped. When the church showed the video, they just cut out the sound when he made the offensive reference- but you could still tell what he had said. That pretty much sank his candidacy.
Breathtaking arrogance...
Colonel, USAFR
Harry Reid had that letter signed by all ‘Rat Senators including Durbin, saying they would not seat anyone appointed by Blagovich.
Now Blago is playing the “race card” on them and daring to turn away a black former Atty. General from IL.
Will Obama issue a statement saying that no one appointed by Blago should serve? That would probably be the only way for the Demagogues to defuse the race card.....
For some reason I dont believe them, I just dont remember why....Oh wait...It's because they always lie.
Atty. Gen. Roland Burris?
Who is this guy?
I suppose he is going to save Blagosonofvich’s arse.

The check cleared..........
Press conference is supposed to be at 2 pm (Central time?) I believe..... should be great entertainment!!!!
It just keeps getting more and more interesting by the minute.
Will the Secretary of State allow the appointment?
Will the Dems in the Senate use that as cover to let him take the seat?
Can the appointee of a corrupt governor possibly win election in his own right?
Who am I kidding? This is Illinois...
I don’t think Burris can help Blago in his predicament — I think it’s just about Blago thumbing his nose at everyone, and Burris is willing to participate b/c his quest for higher office was repeatedly thwarted (ran unsuccessfully for Governor 3 times!!).
Burris and Blago would each enjoy something they want from the situation, but will anyone else cooperate to get Burris seated as a US Senator?
“The check cleared..........”
That too!!!
Pass the popcorn !
Thank you for that information. I was not aware.
Burris’ “unqualified white boys” comment may negate the race card ploy. Illinois won’t validate the choice.
Now if he'd been talking about "unqualified white girls like Caroline Kennedy" then everyone would have understood!!
he’s a no-good, two-timing, scheming, thieving scum-bag...but I really wish the GOP had anybody with his stones!
Mod — I did not see that there was a previous thread, or maybe it only just now got posted into “Breaking News” — but the thread was posted before mine. It didn’t come up on search since there are different titles (and the news sources are different).
Anyway, if appropriate could you please lock this thread and link people to the other one, since that one is on Breaking News:

Thank you.
Very clever choice by Blago. Roland Burris is one of the first African-Americans elected to statewide office and
was popular from what I remember from my years in Illinois.
Will do, thanks.
