Cincinnati (AP) - A Connecticut man has admitted that he did not live in Ohio when he cast an early ballot for the presidential election in Cincinnati.
Kevin Duffy, of Manchester, Conn., pleaded guilty in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court on Monday to attempted false voter registration.
The 24-year-old's attorney says Duffy got "caught up" in the excitement of the election while visiting his sister in Cincinnati.
He cast his ballot Oct. 4 during a weeklong period during which new voters could register and immediately cast a ballot.
Duffy later told county elections officials not to count his vote.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, a $1,000 fine and 250 hours of community service. He also agreed to cooperate with an investigation of alleged improper voting in the county.

I wonder how many ACORN “voter advocacy” classes Duffy attended. Duffy's the tip of the iceberg, in my opinion.

He’ll probably serve his “community service” working for ACORN educating others in how not to get CAUGHT up.
To: fwdude
He should be stripped of his right to vote. He has proven that he cannot follow even the simplest of voting rules; vote in your own state.

He should be hauled off to jail and given a stiff sentence as a warning. Unfortunately, he probably won’t even be prosecuted.

Duffy later told county elections officials not to count his vote. Define 'later'. "Later", Wed Nov 5th? "Later", when a cop showed up at his door to ask him how he voted twice? "Later", when his conscience* kicked in, and he consulted a lawyer?
*conscience: when a friend told him authorities were double checking the absentee ballots and voter registrations for illegal voting, and there would be jail time

I agree. There are many otherwise eligible voters who should have their right to vote revoked. Anyone who takes bribes (cigarettes) for their vote, who willfully defaces their ballot (Micky Mouse as all the write-ins), attempts to vote twice, etc. for starters.

For whom did you vote? This is the mainstream media reporting. We must protect this felon's right to privacy. The fact that he voted for Obama is none of your business.

I'd bet there were umpteen thousands who got “caught up in the moment” just like him. This sap just happened to get caught. Since the 2000 presidential election all of the “reforms” done to make voting easier have done nothing more than turn our elections into something akin to that of a banana republic. I'm sure this will be a top priority of an Obama administration (sarc).

You are quite right, my drilling FRiend. If he promptly told the election officials not to count his vote, then I am inclined to support leniency, particularly if his vote was not counted as a result.
If he only told them not to count his vote after it was too late, or after he was afraid of getting caught, then I say throw the book at him.

Duffy later told county elections officials not to count his vote. This shouldn't be an issue unless he ALSO voted in Connecticut. What euphoria did he get caught up in when he cast the SECOND ballot??? I would have jumped on that and rejected the deal, giving out the maximum sentence, jail time included.

Did his registration fall under the Motor Voter Law? If so, then his registration, false or not, in Ohio AUTOMATICALLY canceled his Connecticut voter registration under that statute. Did he also cast a ballot in Connecticut? If so, then the greater crime was committed there. This clown isn’t out of the woods yet.

Was he one of the multitudes of “homeless” whom an Ohio judge allowed to use their park benches as home addresses in order to vote?

this election was stolen in the most blantant way and no one will ever do anything about it.
I am torn between hoping Obie goes down in disgrace and hoping the country manages to survive in spite of him.
To: Philo1962
You don’t understand - he told them that he voted for MCCAIN, so naturally the authorities just added an extra vote for Obama in order to rectify the mistake....

Early voting and absentee voting must be stopped. It is device used by the democrats to subvert, and disenfranchise the voters.
If one cannot visit the polls on election day...tough. Otherwise voting means nothing.

This shouldn't be an issue unless he ALSO voted in Connecticut.Disagree. You don't get to vote based on where you are... you vote where you live.
However... if you meant your post to be sarcastic... I'll offer my apologies.

Not sarcastic but rather technical. Under Federal law, when he registered in Ohio - whether under false pretenses or not - he automatically canceled all prior registrations everywhere. It was incumbent on Ohio under Motor Voter to issue the interstate notifications. No state has implemented such a mechanism to my knowledge. Voting in Ohio was problematic as you say but the felonious action happened with the casting of a second ballot in Connecticut with the full knowledge that a vote was cast in Ohio. State AND Federal laws were likely broken and I'm thinking a much larger boot is ready to fall in the second state.
