BUSH should PARDON and FORGIVE Ramos and Compean FIRST.

Agreed. And this was not some unwashed peasant expressing his anger. This was an accredited Iraqi reporter who was allowed access to a restricted government press conference. He had Baathist connections. It is also worth noting that more than 30 Iraqi government officials with Baathist connections were recently arrested as part of a conspiracy to overthrow the government. I see no way Maliki could allow such disrespect even as a purely domestic internal matter. It undermines government authorty and shows disrespect for an ally and world leader.

Bowden works for the Philadelphia Inquirer but didn't mention it in the short bio at the end of this column. He mentioned Atlantic Monthly, but not the Inquirer.

He*l no! It’s an internal matter. The prez just needs to keep his mouth shut and see what backbone Maliki has.

For Americans, the only serious issue raised by the shoe-throwing episode is how Mr. Zaidi was able to throw the second one.You betcha!

...make him wear waders for a year, by the time he gets them off, whoever he was going to throw em at could be out of town

Bowden is an a$$. According to friends in the military who have had the “pleasure” to meet him he thinks that because he wrote a book about a battle he is now a warrior. His writing stinks too.

I'm of two minds,
Yes ask for leniency for the punk with the understanding he has to apologize publicly for his assault. He's supposedly suffered quite a bit at the hands of his countrymen, perhaps enough to make him think twice about attacking a man with a shoe.
BUT
We are talking about the office of "The President of The United States" If just anyone can throw a shoe at the office holder and get away with it, it sets a bad example.
I dunno...
To: SeekAndFind
This is nonsense. Throwing a shoe in the culture of the Near-East is far more disrespectful than in this country.
This dirtbag should languish in Abu Ghraib for 10 to 15 years.

Nope. It’s an Iraqi issue.
To: SeekAndFind
He threw those shoes really hard. If they had gotten him in the face, I'd say enough damage would have been done for felony assault, so he should spend a few months in jail. The Prez ducked both shots easily, and I thought he looked rather amused by the challenge.
