Live Thread: Brit Hume Final 'Special Report' On Fox News Channel 12/23/08
Tuesday, December 23, 2008 | Kristinn

Posted on 12/23/2008 3:08:27 PM PST by kristinn

Tonight is Brit Hume's final night as anchor of Special Report on the Fox News Channel.

Free Republic honored Mr. Hume in 2000, as reported by World Net Daily:

Despite the group's criticism of what has been called the "establishment" press, three journalists were presented with the "Endangered Species Award" -- including WND's Farah and Sperry -- "for being true to the First Amendment by pursuing and reporting the facts."

Fox News' Brit Hume was the third recipient of the Endangered Species award.

Freepers presented the award to Mr. Hume at his office at the Fox News bureau in Washington.

Mr. Hume is one of the last honorable reporters in journalism.

“Mr. Hume is one of the last honorable reporters in journalism.”

I will really miss him. I watched him every night with dinner and I think he is the only true gentlemen and scholars left in the news business. This is sad...

I wish him well, especially, as he has said, in playing more golf and spending time with the young ones...

Politico reports Bret Baier will succeed Mr. Hume as anchor for Special Report.

He seems like a nice enough man...but I can’t get over the feeling I am looking at a high school kid reporting the news...I wish him well...BIG shoes to fill...

Too bad that Brit seemed to have bought in to the Obamania.

His fawning and drooling over The One in recent months has been disconcerting.

I’m saddened. Special Report is the ONLY TV news worth watching. Brit Hume is the best.

To keep up with the journalistic times they should replace him with the Buttway Boys.

I like Bret Baier and think he is a good reporter, but I’ve yet to see a hint of a sense of humor, let alone the sardonic wit Britt had. I think I like Jim Angle better than Bret, as he seems like a jollier fellow.

Maybe with Bret in a moderator role, he’ll loosen up.

I will miss Brit also. He is the reason I started watching Fox in the first place. Once in a while I catch the Beltway Boys. Fred Barnes is grating on my last nerve so pretty soon I won’t be watching Fox at all.

Bret Baier was the only reporter out of hundreds asked at the White House Correspondents Association dinner a few years back to know that SFC Paul R. Smith was the first serviceman awarded the Medal of Honor in the war on terror.

Brit is the best thing on Fox and yet, it seems, even he has softened lately. I used to watch Fox almost 24/7. I can say we have been Fox-free for a few months now. I haven’t missed anything.

And the people on FNC went with the rules.

I honestly think it was his attempt to be “fair and honest.”

I certainly wouldn’t have been as generous...

I am going to miss Brit in his regular time slot.

What’s Brit going to do?

He was on O'Reilly last week and said he was going to Spend time with his grandkids, Go Golfing and Give "Opinions" on the Fox News Channel. He mentioned that there wasn't a show on Fox that had just "Opinions", which I thought was a interesting comment for him to make.

Thank you for starting the thread. I am breaking my modified Foxnews boycott, which included Brit's show. I've not watched the show since he and the All Stars fawned all over Barama after the third debate. But, I'm watching tonight, if only to see the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. Brett Baer, I imagine will be taking over. Hardly, an equal replacement and I suspect viewer-ship will go down.

As far as Brit, he said today he'll be doing political analysis for the channel. Something, he said, he always wanted to do.

I remember Cameron's performance.. But BH took some position on something (can I be any more specific?!?) that both shocked, disappointed and saddened me and many others. I thought it was Palin related. Maybe I'm mistaken. In any event..

Merry Christmas!

I'm crying, too... I'm going to miss Brit Hume in my home 4 nights a week at 6pm, and on Fox News Sunday.

Brit says his new role will be that of "senior correspondent" (if I remember correctly). I hope we still see him very often on FNC...

Join us on kristinn's live thread for Brit Hume's last day in the anchor desk on FNC's "Special Report". (sniff)

If you missed this broadcast, it re-airs at 2am ET.

Brit's replacement will be Brett Baier (yay!). I think he's the perfect replacement for Brit, although those are some very big shoes to fill.

Godspeed, Brit... hope to see you often on FNC in your new role.

I used to be a FOX News junkie....but have not watched this or any other news channel since election night. Could not stand the orgasmic reaction of these so called professionals to the election results.

Maybe I'll tune in again in 2012.
