Congresswoman Pushes for Return of 'Fairness Doctrine' and Extend It to Cable and Satellite
NewsBusters ^ | December 16, 2008 | P.J. Gladnick

Posted on 12/16/2008 6:15:19 PM PST by PJ-Comix

Although president-elect Barack Obama has stated that he is opposed to the reimposition of the so-called Fairness Doctrine, it remains to be seen if he can resist the pressure of Congress to bring back a measure that many on the left favor because they claim it will "Hush Rush." Leading the charge for bringing back the Fairness Doctrine is Congresswoman Anna Eshoo of California. According to this report, Eshoo not only wants to bring it back but to extend it to absurdly include cable and satellite where public airwaves are not even involved:

Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, said Monday she will work to restore the Fairness Doctrine and have it apply to cable and satellite programming as well as radio and TV.

“I’ll work on bringing it back. I still believe in it,” Eshoo told the Daily Post in Palo Alto.

The Fairness Doctrine required TV and radio stations to balance opposing points of view. It meant that those who disagreed with the political slant of a commentator were entitled to free air time to give contrasting points of view, usually in the same time slot as the original broadcast.

The doctrine was repealed by the Reagan administration's Federal Communications Commission in 1987, and a year later, Rush Limbaugh's show went national, ushering in a new form of AM radio.

Conservative talk show hosts fear the doctrine will result in their programs being canceled because stations don't want to offer large amounts of air time to opponents whose response programs probably wouldn't get good ratings.

Eshoo said she would recommend the doctrine be applied not only to radio and TV broadcasts, but also to cable and satellite services.

“It should and will affect everyone,” she said.

This is big news. Now the liberals want to extend the "Fairness Doctrine from the airwaves to cable and satellite.

“Barack Obama has stated that he is opposed to the reimposition of the so-called Fairness Doctrine”

What a bunch of crap! He’s talking out of one side of his Kenyan-born illegal alien mouth. He’d love to have any and all opposition squelched . . . Believe me, if he’d let newborns die, he’d let opposition radio die . . . the man’s a monster!

What is the matter with people from CA? First, they screw up their own part of the country, and when that is obvious, they move on to try to pull the sane parts of the country into the cesspool, too.

They are already talking about policing the net, making people get a version of a drivers license to use it so they can track you instead of passwords.

ah, don’t forget Hillary’s lament of a lack of a “gatekeeper” for the internet.

If they’re going to blatantly censor all opposing viewpoints, they’re not going to keep their hands off the internet.

He’s got something that is not called the “fairness doctrine” that will accomplish the same thing - I think it’s called “localization” or some such.

It seems the fairness doctrine is just the matador’s cape.

Well, elections and actions do have conseqwuences.

And one of the conquences is, except when Republicans win, the winner makes the rules. The Republicans deferred to the Democrats for the last 7 years. This is one reason we are in the mess that we are in. The Country Club Republicans believe that they can co-exist with the communists a/k/a Democrats. When the communist get their power consolidated they will be for a rude aweakening.

It is only going to get worse.

Just reading through her biography I found she worked for Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) from 1963 to 1966. That meant she was there when Elmer T. Klassen and Benjamin Bailer took over the company. I have no idea at all what her job might have been but her then husband was a lawyer.

What I wonder is what she knew about the plane crash that killed the President of the company before Elmer took over, and did she address any concerns she might have had to the FBI.

News papers use public roads to distribute their message...... must be fair.

Time and Newsweek use public mails to distribute their message....... must be fair.

All media that uses public infrastructure are subject to the fairness doctrine

So, in other words this simple scumbag Eshoo wants CNN, MSNBC, and CNBC to now devote half of their days to bringing people in to present the news with a conservative spin? And Williams, Gibson, and Couric must vacate their desks for half of their broadcasts so conservative anchors can sit in and re-read the news with a conservative spin?

Wow.

Everyone should read Alinsky's Rules for Radicals and be ready to apply its precepts to any Fairness Doctrine enforcement mechanism that may be passed. We need to swamp it with complaints real and imagined against our enemies at NPR, PBS, NBC, CBS, and all the rest. We can make it non-functional if we are aggressive and obstreperous enough.

If that doesn't work, we'll prepare to use more vigorous means of the kind that Thomas Jefferson would approve. There is no crime and much honor in treating traitors and tyrants as our ancestors would have.
