Actually, if he had gone, he would have been criticized for creating a photo op.

I don’t know, I report - you decide. I heard a report that Obama would be spending Christmas/New Years with wealthy friend in Hawaii. That’s all I heard.

Madelyn Dunham was cremated. The employees of Bankoh held a memorial service for her the 7th of November. A private family service will be held when Jr visits Hawaii later this month, after which her ashes will be scattered into the sea from the same spot where his mother’s ashes were scattered. There were stories about the service in “The Honolulu Advertiser” late in November.
No praying involved -- symbolic scattering of flowers off some cliff in Hawaii, attended at a respectfully specified distance by press photographers, as per his summer trip.
All carefully orchestrated; no prayers necessary.
I suspect he doesn’t want to get too near a cliff. You just never know who might push you over in that crowd he’s usually with.
