For Mr. Yoon - Father of Familiy Killed in F-18 Crash

Several Freepers have asked where they could send donations, cards and flowers to Mr. Don Yoon. After asking a reporter covering the story, I received this reply:

angelica.martinez@uniontrib.com

Dear Steven,
Thanks for the feedback. The Korean United Methodist Church of San Diego is accepting donations on Mr. Yoon’s behalf.

3520 Mount Alfani Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92111,
Attention: Don Yoon
858-569-4069.

Hope this helps.

Best regards, Angelica

The devastated man lost his wife, his two children and his mother-in-law when the empty F-18 crashed into his house; the pilot, who ejected, landed safely.

Mr. Yoon bore the tragedy without blaming others. From the article:

SAN DIEGO - A Korean immigrant who lost his wife, two children and mother-in-law when a Marine Corps jet slammed into the family's house said Tuesday he did not blame the pilot, who ejected and survived.

"Please pray for him not to suffer from this accident," a distraught Dong Yun Yoon told reporters gathered near the site of Monday's crash of an F/A-18D jet in San Diego's University City community.

"He is one of our treasures for the country," Yoon said in accented English punctuated by long pauses while he tried to maintain his composure.

"I don't blame him. I don't have any hard feelings. I know he did everything he could," said Yoon, flanked by members of San Diego's Korean community, relatives and members from the family's church.

Authorities said four people died when the jet crashed into the Yoon family's house...

Yoon named the victims as his infant daughter Rachel, who was born less than two months ago; his 15-month-old daughter Grace; his wife, Young Mi Yoon, 36; and her 60-year-old mother, Suk Im Kim, who he said had come to the United States from Korea recently to help take care of the children.

Fighting back tears, he said of his daughters: "I cannot believe that they are not here right now... I know there are many people who have experienced more terrible things," Yoon said. "But, please, tell me how to do it. I don't know what to do."

A true example of God’s grace. A much better man than I.

Compare what Mr. Yoon said to what Pigface Murtha says about our Marines. God bless Don Yoon and the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fi.

My heart sinks when I think of this pilot; I don’t know what is worse, losing loved ones or causing the loss. How many times has he wished that he had ditched and said “screw the wings?”

There's nothing anyone can do FOR Mr. Yoon, except pray for God's continueing love and grace he is already more aware of and enjoyng than most whom call themselves Christian in this country.

Years ago the telephone company used as a promo the jingle, "Reach out, and touch someone today"

I had just been saved and I had the inspiration that, THAT was what prayer is .. from me, to God, to the one whom I pray for.

Is Christ, Christ?
Does HE hear?
Does HE answer?

Reach out, and touch someone today.

God bless you, brother Don, with the peace that passes understanding and the balm of Gilead.

The pilot "caused" this tragedy? You assume too much.

May the God of All Comfort shield Mr. Yoon’s heart, that he might withstand the horror of his loss, and may his hope rest in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

It’s my understanding that the pilot had no culpability in the crash. The fighter lost all engine power. There’s nothing the guy can do when that happens.

Almighty Father, guide and strengthen Mr. Yoon in the days to come, and provide for all his needs. I ask this in Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.

"He is one of our treasures for the country," Yoon said...

This country is great because of treasures like Mr. Yoon. I'll take as many Mr. Yoons as the world has to offer and find a place for them here. Being American is far more an attitude than it is a place where someone is born.

I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who post replies either suggesting or saying outright that the pilot has an obligation to ride the disabled aircraft into the ground. I try to respond to them in a gentle way but sometimes they are just so far off base that I just ignore them.

I don't know the specifics, but from my understanding most modern fighters are virtually uncontrollable once they've lost all power. The good ol’ days of control cables are gone, replaced by hydraulic systems that require power to operate.

God bless Mr. Yoon and the pilot. Each has his specific needs in the aftermath of this.

In Forestville Md. back in the late 50’s we had a simlar incident. But the pilot knowing if he ejected his plane may hit a school or large sub-division stayed in his plane and guided it into an area where no one was hurt, except him. He died that day. They named the school after him.

Thank you.

I was made most aware of my own thoughts when my wife went home June 15, 2004.

After 21 years of beautiful, Christian wedded bliss .. I posted THAT NIGHT here .. "Rejoice with me ..." (or something like that.) That thread lasted about a week and I read every reply .. and God bless FreepeRs, but no words or material anything could reach anything other than my facade, my shell. The deep and inner stuff was happening with me and Jesus. (and is on-going)

Brother Don is light years ahead of "Christian" America. And if we want to know the reason we have a Chi-town Chi-ster (pun intended) for president, it is the deep and personal relationship with God missing from the hearts and minds of Americans.

My pastor reminded us last night at church that God appoints the leaders and HE has not lost control ... and I must admit ... watching the historical times of the last couple of months, I stand in awe.

My heart breaks for him and the pilot who will carry this guilt for the rest of his life. Both men are suffering terribly today.

Thanks for the explanation. I was trying to figure out why he didn’t turn out to sea and eject over the Pacific.
