Obama: I never talked to Blagojevich about the Senate seat; Axelrod: Yes, he did;

Sweet catch by Tapper, showing why he got that promotion.
Obama today
I had no contact with the governor or his office and so I was not aware of what was happening, Obama told reporters today in Chicago. Its a sad day for Illinois. Beyond that, I dont think its appropriate to comment.
versus Axelrod on November 23, as seen below.
Be sure to read Tappers post, as he has plenty more on The Ones long history as a friend of and advisor to Blago. Axelrod himself begged off Blagojevichs first gubernatorial campaign because I was concerned about whether he was ready for
governing. Not so Obama and Emanuel; they both served as advisors, and they and Blago went on endorsing each other to the bitter end.
Watch the VIDEO
Update: Awesome. Lets just drag this out as long as possible. Either we get the spectacle of the Illinois legislature impeaching him or we get the spectacle of Blago appointing The Ones successor while in jail. And based on the charges, hes just stupid/nutty enough to do it.
He didnt do anything wrong, attorney Sheldon Sorosky told reporters after Blagojevich was arraigned. A lot of this is just politics. Blagojevich should be in the office Wednesday, Sorosky added.
So, reporters asked, he does not intend to resign? Not that I know of, no, said Sorosky, who added that the governor was surprised by the days events.

This upcoming president may set the record for having a special prosecutor investigating him, even before his inauguration.

It says Obama HAS spoken to Blago about the senate seat.
Obama just told a press conference not long ago he has not. I know it is a shock LOL but Obama is lying. The question is will he throw his entire cabinet/team under the bus now?
To: NoObamaFightForConservatives
All must have seemed like a ray of sunshine for Blago after being tipped off by Team Obama that he was being recorded and reassured hed have nothing to worry about come January.

Obama is “shocked and saddened” that Axelrod seems to have had contact with the Gov.
“This isn't the Axelrod I know”...he claims. “We really aren't that close, he was just another campaign worker and I'm grateful for his service.”

Axelrod says, I know hes talked with the Governor. Cant get any plainer than that. Common sense tells you that Obama would have SOME input with the Govenor about who was going to take his senate seat. Gov. Blogo: "I am appointing John Smith to fill President-elect Obama's senate seat. I didn't ask for any input from president-elect Obama, and he didn't offer any." Does that statement make any kind of sense?

David Axelrod: Obama Senior Advisor
Fox Chicago Sunday, November 23, 2008
Q: Has he expressed a preference, however, on who might replace him in the senate?
A: He has not. I mean uh, I know he has talked to the governor, and uh, you know, he’s, ah, there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and he’s, I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.

Hope he doesn't resign. If he doesn't, this may be the story that last well into next year and gets the media all fired up to go all "Woodward and Bernstein". The reporters can't be happy about the Tribune editorial board issue and not bailing out their jobs. If he sticks around, I predict this story gets a lot of legs for a good while.

I doubt the sheep will recognize that there is a huge difference between the public face of Obama and his dog and pony show and the reality of what went on behind the scenes on that replacement.
Obama will just throw Axelrod under the bus if this gets public play.
To: NoObamaFightForConservatives
In all fairness to Obama, It is not fair to take his comment
I had no contact with the governor or his office and so I was not aware of what was happening, Obama told reporters today in Chicago
This was a direct response to the events of today.
To somehow tie it to the Axelrod video is something Democrats would do, hopefully not us.......so stop using the democrat playbook and posting statements out of context

Except that the Chicago politics one has legs, and the birth certificate one doesn't. The people don't care about a Hawaii birth certificate, but they do care about selling Senate seats and such. Don't waste time distracting from the one with legs.

The funny thing about this is that the Donks would just love to give Fitzpatrick the Ken Starr treatment, and brand him as a politically motivated hack who is wasting the public’s money on a private vendetta, etc. Unfortunately for them, they just spent the previous three years praising him to the skies whyile he was investigating the Bush White House over the Valerie Plame affair.
If we have to trade one Scooter Libby to innoculate Fitzpatrick while he goes after Rezko/Blagojevich/Obama, it is a small price to pay.

Erm, this seems to be awfully generous to Obama. “I had no contact with the governor or his office and so I was...” doesn’t really leave a huge amount of wiggle room.
One possiblity is of course that team Obama somehow turned Blago in and that they can’t say that for some obscure reason. But how likely is that? Wouldn’t they cash that whooper of a benefit in - instead of offering terse statements?
To: Hot Tabasco
It's not just the Axelrod video. Any thinking person has to obviously note the probability that the president-elect would have discussed who should fill his vacant senate seat with the governor who will make that decision. For him to insist otherwise would be suspicious.
We're just having fun here anyway. All of these people are liars, so it's fun to catch them in various states of preoccupation. When Axelrod feels like he must clarify his Fox statement, he'll probably say something else contradictory.

Just one of many tidbits from today's criminal complaint
90. Later on November 3, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH spoke with Advisor A. By this time, media reports indicated that Senate Candidate 1, an advisor to the President- elect, was interested in the Senate seat if it became vacant, and was likely to be supported by the President-elect. During the call, ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated, unless I get something real good for [Senate Candidate 1], shit, Ill just send myself, you know what Im saying. ROD BLAGOJEVICH later stated, Im going to keep this Senate option for me a real possibility, you know, and therefore I can drive a hard bargain.
Of course Obama will try to bury this implication.
