Pakistani employees inspect burnt out trucks at a NATO terminal outside the north-western Pakistan city of Peshawar.

Taliban militants have destroyed more than 90 trucks loaded with supplies destined for United States-led troops fighting in Afghanistan.

More than 200 Taliban gunmen stormed the supply depot in the Pakistani city of Peshawar in the early hours of the morning.

One security guard was killed, several others were disarmed.

The militants fired rocket-propelled grenades and then doused the trucks in fuel before setting them alight.

Several US military Humvee vehicles were also destroyed.

By first light, the depot was still smouldering.

Security at the compound had been upgraded because of previous attacks and a car bombing in the city's market on Friday (local time).

Local police say the militants were well prepared and organised.

The US military says its operations in Afghanistan will not be disrupted by the loss of equipment.

...the Pakistani guards fled...

The biggest error our country makes is hiring 'indigenous' peoples to work for us in war zones.

Worked well in Vietnam, didn't it?

US/NATO convoys have been routinely attacked and destroyed in Pakistan... so why is it suddenly news now?

I guess that depends on the definition of “Afghanistan” since that country has always been more theoretical than anything else. Alexander the Great did pretty well up there (Khandahar area), but then his M-O was to pretty much leave things to the locals.

I expect that this is “News” because it allows Obama to begin shifting combat resources from Iraq (the Bad War) into Afghanistan (the Good War). I know this is a childish comparison but it’s the Democrats that we’re persuading here.
