Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff declared success Wednesday on President Bush's vow to double the size of the U.S. Border Patrol and near-success on his pledge to build a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border. The two measures leave President-elect Barack Obama in a better position to get an immigration bill passed, he said.

So ridiculous. I suspect that with modern technology and the right people in charge we could complete that entire fence in a single year - minus a couple communities that file legal action to block it in their region.
Near-success on his pledge to build a fence? So that’s what they call not building something these days. Who knew?
How are you going to get the illegals to leave, if we can’t even get the president-elect to prove that he’s not an illegal alien?
Don’t forget who put jerkoff Chertoff in either...
Just like on spending, we’re getting Compassionate Conservatism on immigration right up to the end. Shoot me now, please. We’re doomed.
“Near-success” is like, uh....FAILURE
Not that I take any exception to that statement, because it's patently true, but what'll be interesting to see is how many crimmigrants deport themselves as the economy crashes.
The vast majority of them are unskilled illiterates who work in hospitality, construction, and landscaping. Well, if folks don't know if they're going to be employed next week, how many are going to eat out, travel, build a house, have their property landscaped? Further, if mom got fired and dad got his hours cut back, a job slinging plates at Chili's or cleaning rooms at the Marriott might sound pretty good. They're going to start getting pretty angry that they can't make ends meet while Pato and Rosamunda are working jobs they could do.
Will the D's risk losing vast swaths of American voters in exchange for a new subset of 20-40 million votes? Are those votes going to be dependable (once they realize we'll mail their welfare checks to them in Oaxaca, why stay where it's cold)? Can a major party continue to compete when it's composed of a diverse array of grievance groups (queers, mexicans, a few remaining unions, youthful idiots, etc.)?

When the stock market crashed,
Franklin Roosevelt got on the television
and didnt just talk about
the princes of greed, he said,
Look, heres what happened."
-Slow Joe Biden
The idiot Carl Rove thought so!!
We assume illegals are “conservative” by nature. If by conservative you mean to say reactionary in a dictatorial manner, you are generally correct. But let’s not forget that communists, fascists, socialists, and dictatorships are reactionary organisms. In their mother countries there are no checks and balances upon governmental overreach. In their fatherlands there are no separations of church and state. In their homeland, they never accepted rights we accept as god-given.
Even in business, the majority possess a “bossman” mentality that north generally do not accept.
I think every illegal I’ve talk with say they voted Obama. And yes, they voted.
If anyone is deserving of ill-wishes it’s Chertoff.
Suggested reading for Cherkoff and Bush:

Private citizens have built more fence along the border than the government has and the next question is, where'd they direct the money that was already allocated for fence construction?
>>>>I suspect that with modern technology and the right people in charge we could complete that entire fence in a single year<<<<<
The 700 mile Alaska Pipeline was built in three years at a normalized cost of about $28 billion (2006 dollars), going over two substantial mountain ranges (Brooks and Chugach) and in temperatures of -40F to +90F (interior Alaska gets cold *and* hot).
Upfront permitting, planning, design, etc. added two years to the total.
In its day the pipeline was a marvel, and I distinctly recall that it was in the news and on TV regularly. There was a lot of interest in the guys who went to work on it, and what they were like.
Just like our 700 to 1,000 mile border fence, an engineering challenge which also is in the news and being reported on by the MSM all the time.
Why just this week I saw a Frontline and then a “60 Minutes” story on “The Fence”.......

Nevermind.
“Judge” Chertoff who I once admired has become a shameless and unrepentant liar. It’s truly shocking how low he’s fallen in the last several years.
Hey Chertoff!....don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!
I understand what you are saying and your complaint but, the article only discusses Bush beefing up illegal immigrant ENFORCEMENT! I think the wheels came off your apple cart.
So, doubling the size of a government agency is their measure of success.
Cops are the tool, not the goal.
(Just a little project I've been working on...)
Chertoff and “immigration successes” is the biggest oxymoron to come down the pike in quite a while.
Hes not that stupid. He will be big on border enforcement and stopping illegal immigration. But dont worry the aliens will not stop coming, they will just be able to come through a port of entry with a guest worker card. Problem solved.
This has been the governments plan for the last 10 years.
Interesting... I got this in an email today:
I have no problem with those kinds of cities.
That just means we'll have to circumnavigate their city limits to ensure they lie on the south side of the fence.
Problem solved.
They’re here, they are deeply entrenched and they are not leaving. Like fleas covering a dog, they will drink of blood until the dog dies.
Correct in every way, and this is what makes the Latin American "immigrant" so desirable to the powers-that-be. These people WANT socialism/communism, a la their hero Che.
Chertoff also noted that the seaports in New Mexico and Arizona are secure!
ping
Yep....their organizing and ability to organize is what we are up against. We need a public voice, we need someone like a Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter to step forward and run with this...organizing and assembling All of the anti-amnesty/anti-illegal immigration/pro-border security groups, all under one umbrella. And then we must make a visual statement. If we don’t, our visual statement will come negatively, out of reaction and necessity.
Agreed. Without an organized public voice on this issue, we’ll be painted as obstructionist hatemongers.
If anybody has contact with Tancredo or Hunter, we’re interested...
“Correct in every way, and this is what makes the Latin American “immigrant” so desirable to the powers-that-be. These people WANT socialism/communism, a la their hero Che.”
Bears repeating.
there was a big incentive to build the pipeline because of all the $$$ it would generate. Businesses want a pipeline but they don’t really want a border fence.
“Chertoff to Hand Obama Immigration Successes”
Successes? I guess if you want border guards imprisoned and the border wide open....I guess you could call that a success. All depends on your point of view.
Near-success is like, uh....FAILURE”
Depends on what they were trying to accomplish.
Glenn Beck was really the only one in media who really dug deep into the travesty that was the case that unfairly convicted R & C. Too bad the shot in the a$$ of the smuggler did not do more harm....
Give me your poor, wasted, drug addicted masses of Mexico, yearning to be free and be landscapers, maid servants, fieldhands and houskeepers, without having any loyalty to the nation or its constitution, or the language in which it is written!
Ha ha ha. You think it was a lost cause before to get even part of a fence - now its indeed a lost cause.
Immigration Success. Immigration SUCCESS? SUCCESS! I think my brain is about to explode. Immigration reform was the last, final straw that made me give up on the Bush administration in disgust.
How do you make Immigration Enforcement successful? Why, just redefine complete abject failure = success.
I love that headline. Yep, there’s been a whole lot of immigration success lately — yessiree, tons of successful immigrations!
Thanks, Bush and Chertoff. Thanks a lot. Muchas gracias!
Yeah I guess that’s one bright spot in the economic downturn. That and the cheaper gas prices.
Without ending chain migration, lotteries and some sort of punishment for law breakers who seek to become citizens as well as doing something about the drive through anchor babies, this country is doomed and will break and become even more polarized if these felons are given any type of amnesty. The border fence and e verify is far from enough. Amnesty without ending chain migrataion, lotteries and drive through anchor babies is just stupid and dangerous and with no punishment sends the wrong message. This crap was to never be repeated from the amnesty of 1986 and thanks to Bush, it was. I have no sympathy and it should have been a triple barf alert. I willl for one not vote for anyone who does bailouts or amnesty no matter the party and will become an active protestor. They have ruined the country and have rewarded felons who have no regard or respect for our country and its laws.
Remarkable how well W set up things for BO. Dems are already trying to use the shocking bailout amounts as an excuse to spend more. (Of course, if you borrow money, the logical consequence would be you spend less after that, but this is an emotional, not logical, appeal.)
Chertoff has immigration under control like Paulson has the economy under control.
