BILL BREAKS HIS PROMI$E: VICTIM KIN (Surprise, surprise)
New York Post ^ | November 30, 2008 | Susan Edelman

Posted on 11/30/2008 11:40:58 AM PST by Kaslin

The son of a 9/11 victim has sent a scathing letter to Bill Clinton, blasting the former president for failing to help him and other 9/11 kids get college aid from a charity that raised money in his name.

"It's not about me, it's not about you, it's about the hundreds of kids who lost a Mom or Dad on 9/11 and giving them a chance," wrote Thomas Heidenberger, 21, in an angry letter shared with The Post.

Heidenberger - who was 14 when his flight-attendant mother, Michele, died on the jet terrorists crashed into the Pentagon - blasted Clinton for trying to use him in a "photo op" in Manhattan on the last 9/11 anniversary.

"You have done very little, if anything, to help with more financial aid to the kids," he wrote.

The American Spectator also had an amazing article some years back about how hard the Clintons fought against suing Iran for some past act of terror. It had something to do with big financial backers of the Clinton, who indirectly would have been hurt, had compensation been made (Iran does have assets in the USA).

VERY ILLUMINATING.

Nonono you've got it all wrong. Dubya had that wing wired with explosives, which nobody noticed, and Rumsfeld pulled the switch.

The Minnesota-based charity has slashed aid to those, like Heidenberger, who earn interest on 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund payments. Heidenberger's dad, a retired pilot, put $1.25 million from the fund into trusts for his son and daughter.

The kid has over $600k available to pay for his education, and he's upset somebody else isn't paying for it so his capital doesn't have to be tapped.

Given the many thousands who don't have any funds at all available, or who lost parents to crime or terrorism (like OK City), my sympathy is limited.

Not that this makes Bill any less a sleazeball.

People our giving their lives to punish those directly and indirectly responsible for what happened that day, while these family members already having (foolishly) been paid millions, yet they now want free college as well. Pathetic.

He pays $36,000 in tuition, board and expenses at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania.

Even a poor rate of return on a $600,000 trust fund ought to pay that without any problem.

So the kid might have to work a part-time job for spending money. Cry me a river.

Ugh. I am so sick of hearing the 9/11 victims' families whining. These people have taken complaining to a whole new level. Other people die all the time and somehow their families manage to move on.

My dad passed away almost 15 years ago but through proper planning my mom was able to carry on and put myself and my sister through college.

Yes. I think something like a million bucks each just for starters. Those in high paying jobs got more, and so did those with kids.

They didn't put any away for college?

What makes you think they want this extra boodle for college, other than their saying so?

In any case, if it makes the Clintons look bad, I'm in favor of it staying in the news. Can it be rubbed off on the new guy?

I remember a few years back hearing a local radio talk show host in Philadelphia say that the 9/11 victims are "more dead" than previously dead people because of the size of the welfare handouts that their families received.

IIRC, families that elected not to sue the airlines received $1.4 per casualty.

This was one of the worst mistakes the Bush administration made.
They should have let the families sue the airlines and prove that it was the airlines (not the feds) that were negligent. It would have forced American tort reform.

Instead, we created a new class of entitlements and put another group “on the dole”.

I read somewhere, perhaps Popular Mechanics, that for this to have been true it would have required a conspiracy of approximately 4000 people-- from the building's janitors to the President-- none of whom squealed, and many hundreds of whom would have had to taken part in plans for their own deaths. In other words, these 9/11 Truthers are gullible morons on a scale almost unparalleled in history.

Agreed. If it was up to me, I would have liked to see the airlines receive blanket immunity from any lawsuit related to 9/11 and no taxpayer-financed compensation for the victims outside life insurance polices that they may have previously purchased.

Any further compensation could come from charitable donations.

I think FReepers are being a bit harsh on the kid...despite the fact that he ain't hurting for money or an education.

The point is that Dole & Clinton collected money for a specific purpose, then set up a "some are more equal than others" pay out process based on payments arising from 9/11 but from different sources.

Makes me think about how happy I was when VA told me I made too much money (from savings, SS, and a drop in the bucket pension) to be put back into their books as a potential customer...

Makes me think of the periodic suggestion that government should confiscate some people's SS taxes because other retirees needed it more...

It appears that BJC added a few coals by asking the kid to help out in his PR for the program as well - perhaps not a brilliant move.

You are absolutely right, and the 9/11 payout was on top of the Social Security survivor benefits that a widow or widower gets if they’re left with children— a widowed spouse left with two kids gets around $2000 a month (IIRC), though it tapers off as the kids age out.

The charity was quite right to means test its benefits, I’m fairly sure donors didn’t give away their own money to subsidize a kid with a $600,000 trust fund. Look if $36,000 a year in tuition is gonna leave his trust fund too small, then transfer to a state school, take out student loans or (gasp!) join the service to earn GI bill benefits.

If the trust fund from the $1.2 million isn’t enough, he could get a part-time job or go to a cheaper university.

The average tuition + room and board at 4-year public universities nationwide is under $14,000 a year.

And if your parents live in a city with a university, you can probably save on the room and board.

Per the article: “Heidenberger’s dad, a retired pilot, recieved about $1 million, some of which went into trusts for his son and daughter.”

Average is 90-110. 135 is in the top 3 or 4 percentile.

That said, native intelligence doesn't mean automatic knowledge or being unsusceptible to zany ideas.

It would help if they did a little research. The energy potential of a gallon of gasoline is equal to a fairly sizable amount of dynamite. Each of those planes had nearly full tanks, each was larger than a B-17, and so each was the equivalent of a guided missle with a warhead of tons of conventional explosives.

right on the money: no lawsuits and no taxpayer-funded charity.

The victim status seekers have an incentive to be acknowledged by statists, so they can get benefits that no others (or few others) get. From handicap parking places to social security and more. Can you imagine George Washington having to deal with this sort of society? Uggh.

By the way, I'm a disable Veteran and disagree with forcing private property owners (stores) to have special parking places for handicapped people. I've seen too many with the handicap placard in their cars without any apparent need to park closer than others. If you can walk around WalMart for hours, you can park just like every other customer.
