Wasn’t Bombay the name the Brits gave the city? Like Peking was the Brit name for what was renamed Beijing. IIRC. It sounds like the Indian people prefer their own names for their own cities :)
At this point...assume nothing. If those idiots decide to just rock and roll, then nobody’s safe..and with the usual mode of engagement with AKs and terrs being of that nature, I’d be alert for stray rounds...or bad guys looking for a quick hostage to make a rendezvous with a boat off shore or something. A Bunch were arrested last week planning to bomb the Mumbai Stock exchange. Probably was to be part of this attack.
They made SURE to kill the ATS head, and put out this notice in the Deccan Herald on Sept. 15:

“You should know that your acts are not at all left unnoticed; rather we are closely keeping an eye on you and just waiting for the right time to execute your bloodshed. We are aware of your recent raids at Ansarnagar, Mograpada in Andheri and the harassment and trouble you created there for the Muslims,” the group said in the email they sent to various media houses on Saturday evening.
“You threatened to murder them and your mischief went to such an extent that you even dared to abuse and insult Maulana Mahmood-ul-Hasan Qasmi and even misbehaved with the Muslim women and children there,” the email said.
“If this is the degree your arrogance has reached, and if you think that by these stunts you can scare us, then let the Indian Mujahideen warn all the people of Mumbai that whatever deadly attacks Mumbaikars will face in future, their responsibility would lie with the Mumbai ATS and their guardians – Vilasrao Deshmukh and R R Patil,” the email said. “You are already on our hit-list and this time very very seriously.”
The terror outfit also threatened to target a senior Rajasthan police official. “All the Mujahideen who shook Jaipur are absolutely safe and secure, and are preparing for our next targets, one of which is A K Jain – the DIG of Rajasthan,” claimed Indian Mujahideen.
Jain has been instrumental in arresting several SIMI members in Rajasthan in connection with the May 13 serial blasts in Jaipur. The mail bears two signatures at the end – Guru Alhindi and al-Arbi.
Not in their own name, anyway. And in this case, a false name might send investigators off on a snipe hunt, whereas no claim at all might finger AQ.

Lashkar-e-Toiba 'Army of the Pure'

Narayanan said on August 11, 2006, that the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba is part of the "al Qaeda compact" and is "as big as and omnipotent" as the international terror network. "The Lashkar today has emerged as a very major force. It has connectivity with west Asia, Europe....Actually there was an LeT module broken in Virginia and some people were picked up. It is as big as and omnipotent as al Qaeda in every sense of the term," he told a private news channel. Asked how significant the al Qaeda connection was in India, Narayanan said LeT was the "most visible manifestation" of the al Qaeda in India.

CBS is reporting at least 80 dead, and 300 injured in eight locations.
