Thin people and vegans are being allowed to dodge national conscription by the Swiss army – but it will take users of cannabis and Ecstasy.
Under rules issued this week, people cannot serve if they eat no animal products or if they are of average height and weigh less than 8st.

Sounds completely logical to me.
Recreational use of cannabis and ecstasy during the teen and early 20’s years in a country with one of the highest standards of living is the norm.
Voluntarily injuring your long term health by adhering to an ideology that goes against hundreds of thousands of years of evolutionary history, all in the name of not wanting to kill animals, makes one totally unfit to serve in a country that might have to kill humans again some day.
That being said, the number of exemptions from service in Switzerland and Israel has gotten absurdly too prevalent, and many of the exemptions rulings should be removed en masse.

Um, the Swiss are rather good actually.
The legend goes that at the beginning of the Second World War, Hitler sent one of his Field Marshalls to meet with the Swiss Foreign Minister.
He asked him how many men Switzerland could raise in 24 hours.
About a million men was the response.
And what would you do if we marched two million men over the pass, the Field Marshall asked next.
Why we would let each man fire twice and we would go home, he was told.
Hitler scrapped plans to invade Switzerland.
Do not knock the Swiss army. Their air force trains in extreme mountainous conditions. Their military service is none too cushy — there are deaths every year. It’s dangerous. My ex has cigarette burns all up his arms. He “wouldn’t talk” in their war games. They all have their guns at home and have obligatory shooting days every few months.

You're way over thinking it. While what you said may or not be true (I'm leaning towards not) it's not the reason.
Drug use is one thing. If the Swiss want to forgive drug use amongst their recruits, no big deal.
However, vegans present a supply problem. Plain and simple. You can't serve in the U.S. military if you have an allergy to wool for the same reason, it's a supply problem. The army can't be burdened with recruits with special dietary needs. It's a logistical nightmare.

You can do rolls, but they have a strict limit of rolling 8 while on duty.

Actually, I think it is a health problem. Strict vegans have teeth and bone problems from the lack of dairy products. Ask a dentist about vegan kids teeth.
It sounds like a fair distinction to me. Cows eat grass people smoke it. ;^)
