Democratic Congresswoman Barbara Lee of Oakland has been selected to chair the Congressional Black Caucus.

The caucus made the announcement at a Capitol Hill press conference Wednesday where Lee accepted the gavel from outgoing Chairwoman Carolyn Kilpatrick.

Lee, just elected to her 7th term, said she looked forward to working with President-elect Barack Obama in advancing goals of justice and equality.

I think it may be time to set one up to show the absurdity of the whole thing.

Isn’t this the one who has voted against funding every single measure of the War on Terror? Including voting against a resolution condemning the perpetrators of the 9-11 atrocity?

Folks, it’s going to be a wild ride in Congress. Let’s hope the various factions in the majority attack each other like mad dogs.

Might even want to bring the popcorn.

Representative Jesse Watts said of his refusal to join the caucus, "...they said that I had sold out and was an Uncle Tom. And I said well, they deserve to have that view. But I have my thoughts. And I think they're race-hustling poverty pimps."

White members of Congress have never been welcomed into the caucus.

She’s one of the worst leftists in Congress — she probably thinks Ayers and Dohrn are too moderate.

Oh, this will be fun.

Some links so people can get an idea:

Congresswoman Barbara Lee was first elected to represent California's ninth Congressional District in 1998, in a special election to fill the seat of retiring Congressman Ron Dellums.

Lee was ranked as the sixth-most liberal member of the House by the National Journal, based on roll-call votes on economic, social and foreign policy issues in 2006. Lee received a 97% progressive rating from a self-described non-partisan group that provides a "searchable database of Congressional voting records from a Progressive perspective," and a 4% conservative rating from the American Conservative Union.

Strongly opposed the “Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act,” which bans a range of late-term abortion procedures and imposes criminal penalties for physicians who perform the procedures
Voted against H.R. 503, the “Unborn Victims of Violence Act,” which recognizes the rights of an unborn fetus as separate from those of its mother. H.R. 503 provides that an individual who causes the death of, or bodily injury to, a fetus shall receive punishment for harming two persons, the mother and the “unborn child.
Introduced an amendment to the Foreign Relations Authorization Act to overturn the dangerous global gag rule, also known as the Mexico City policy. Rep. Lee’s amendment would continue family planning funding for international organizations in developing nations
Co-sponsored H.R. 3675, the Improved Maternal and Children’s Health Coverage Act, to improve the coverage of needy children under the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and the Medicaid Program
