Define R.I.N.O.: A Republican In Name Only.
Examples of the type of Republican covered under this definition are:
Rep. Mark Kirk [R-IL] Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen [R-FL] Rep. Michael Ferguson [R-NJ] Rep. Christopher Shays [R-CT] Rep. Michael Castle [R-DE] These five supposed Republican are nothing more than jackasses in elephant's clothing. Rep. Mark Kirk has introduced a bill, H.R. 6257: Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act of 2008, which would "reinstate the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act."

this is disgusting... the only difference between a semi-automatic assault weapon and a good hunting rifle is that one looks meaner than the other. DISGUSTING. This has nothing to do with “assault weapons”.. this has to do with chipping away at the 2nd amendment.

I absolutely hate the words assault weapons.
I was at the Bass Pro shop a week ago and asked the guy if they carried any M1 type rifles. He said, "No, we don't carry assault rifles."

The only saving grace is that the bill can still be filibustered in the current Senate. Next time it comes up, you can bet Polosi, Reid and Obama will move it as "emergency" legislation with immediate implementation. Stinking RINOs. Didn't Shays lose his seat? It figures the weasel would make one my strike.

Thought about picking up an AK but since 7.62x39 ammo is imported it could get scarce mighty quick.

Bass Pro Shop has a lot more than just fishing equipment. They do have a whole firearm and ammo section. Plus, it’s a great place to go for SHTF type gear.

I’m still kicking myself for not snapping up an ak parts kit.
Used to be you could get an genuine ak-47 that had the receiver torched in 2 places.
Then all you had to do was get a receiver flat (non-firearm flat piece of sheet metal) and fold it and rivet the trunnions in.
And of course install a compliant trigger. (as well as a few other parts)
Unfortunately, the ATF change the import rule so now the barrels are torched also.
So now affordable parts kits are a thing of the past. (All collector items now)
7.62x39 is the cheapest ammo out there (and can be snarfed off of the communists) so I’m now thinking along the lines of an ar-15 chambered in 7.62x39
Unfortunately, ar-15 uppers and internal parts are not cheap. (unlike the ak-47’s)
The 80% (non firearm) lowers are quite affordable though.

It would be one thing if they actually used them for the guns that are defined as ‘assault weapons’ - because then they’d never use it. All the guns used in crime stories are not assault weapons. Only time they could use the term right is if they were talking about a weapon that is or can be set to be a fully automatic weapon.
And we normal folk can’t get those without a special license and extensive background checks.

It is a joke.. the energy from a gun comes from the Caliber/GunPowder NOT the gun itself. Guns are made for accuracy, reliability etc. its just that people are either too dumb in Washington or they are doing something more sinister... slowly taking away the 2nd amendment

Well, just the basic ar-15 in 7.62x39
I can already afford an 80% lower receiver.
Its just the upper/barrel/internals that are out of my budget.
Also, see

AR-15’s in 7.62x39 are usually jam-o-matics.
You can buy a lower (if you can find one) then get a kit with a complete upper, then put the two together yourself for less than $700, still.

Right.
Its the parts kits that are hard to get.
I’m sorta leaning towards the ar platform anyway because they have good potential for accuracy with a good barrel chambered in 5.56mm
(I like modular things)

DPMS has 7.62x39 rifles and parts listed on their website.
Personally I want to go the 80% route. (no paperwork!)

DPMS is on the low end of acceptable for ARs.
And you can also do “no paperwork” with a private buy of a lower.
An 80% receiver requires about $300 in tooling and jigs to complete. Which means it costs more than finding a lower from a private seller.

I’m invested in both architectures.
That said, AK prices did come down a bit before the current panic to the point where a complete rifle wasn’t much more than the parts kit.

The SKS would be way down on my list to get - if only because they tend to be jam-o-matics with anything other than their original 10 round magazines. And forget about converting them to detachable mags, that’s jam-city too.

Tooling isn't a problem... (hehe)
Probably the only things I'd need to get is a clamping block set, and possibly a tap.
http://www.cncguns.com/tooling.html (tool/tips/resources)
The only reason I mention DPMS is because they are the only people I am aware of that make a 7.62x39 ar-15 barrel.
If I knew of someone who had an ar-15 lower that they wanted to unload, I wouldn't mind going that route. (If it was in serviceable condition.)
Really the issue is the upper and all the internals.

I’ve seen those; despite the claims, most of the time people get the buffer tube area wrong and ruin the piece. To each their own, though.
Why would you want an AR in 7.62x39 anyway???

I'm just so disgusted with the current political situation now. Just when I was thinking of getting strapped in for the ride, now I hear some of our own elected republicans are joining the democrats and doing it to us even more. Talk about being kicked when your down. I thought this gun ban garbage was over with when DUBBYA let X-42's law sunset.
I have been trying to decide,
1911 45ACP or FHN five seven. Five seven has 20 rnd high velocity but unique ammo that will likely be banned. 45 has brute force and ammo is everywhere.
The five seven would be an interesting collector piece to me. What would Jack O'neil do.
To: Freeper Fanatic
Buy both.
I’m not a .45 fan but the 5.7 is odd enough for me to want it :)

You mean FNH.
The FN FiveseveN (their spelling, not mine) is known to have issues with firing out of battery. And the 5.7mm ammo turns out to be nothing spectacular in civvie-legal loadings.
Look into a Springfield XD45.

The AR is modular and 7.62x39 is the cheapest ammo that Cabela's carries.
Nice thing about the AR is you can plug 5.56mm or 6.8mm in.
I agree that getting the buffer tube area right could be tricky.
I'm currently in the process of setting up a CNC mill similar to this one.

(Just barely big enough to cut the buffer tube area...)
As long as you get your workpiece zeroed out properly and you tell the computer to mill the hole and threads in the right place, it should come out right.

The reason you don’t find much on DIY SKS receivers is that it uses a milled receiver. Plus I do not know of any imported parts kits for them.
