Huck unloads on Mitt; Romney camp hits back
Mike Huckabee is using his new book, out this week, to settle a few scores, not the least of which is with his fierce primary rival, Mitt Romney.
Per Michael Scherer, Huckabee picks up where he left off earlier this year, tweaking Romney as a rich guy and firing what may be the first shots of the 2012 primary.
Romney, Huckabee, writes, was "anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.
At another point, Huckabee portrays a Romney proposal to encourage more investment in the market as, "Let them eat stocks!
The former Arkansas governor also takes a shot at Fred Thompson who ensured his defeat in the pivotal South Carolina primary as well as those evangelical leaders who didnt get behind his bid.
But none of these people may emerge again in four years as political rivals of Huckabee.
Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.
This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee, Fehrnstrom. If were going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together.
Very sad. I knew Hucksterbee was a fraud, but this is just reinforcing it.
I’ll have to side with Huckabee on this one.
******************
Not really.
These two guys have as much relevance as two homeless guys fighting over a cardboard box.
No, this type of pettiness is typical of Mike Huckabee, the Southern Fried McCain without the military heroism and with the religious bigotry. In a saner era, Huck would have been laughed off-stage and Fred would have been the nominee.
Purse fight
The antipathy towards Romney is misplaced. Conservatives spend no small amount of time complaining about Republicans drifting left to appease the MSM well heres one whos actually drifting right.
We have a hard enough time keeping conservatives from becoming moderates. Surely, we ought not exacerbate the problem by shunning moderates who become conservatives.
His only saving grace was being pro-life...ala mccain. What mccain & huckster did to Romney in WV was disgusting.
None will be Prez as we expose more of the liberal RINOs.
This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee.
No, it’s not. It defines him.
LOL
I would take Hucklebee any day of the week over what we have now.
If these two are in the offing for 2012, I won’t be voting with the GOP.
It was bad enough this year. The losers need to back away from entertaining an idea that they have a remote chance.
I hate to, but I’ve got to agree with Fehrnstrom here.
I’d take Romney over the Huckster anyday. At least Romney has some intelligence, which I think the Huckster is lacking.
Other than a remark or two about playing football in college without a helmet, I don’t recall Ronald Reagan taking these kinds of shots as Gerald Ford.
I voted for Huckabee in the primaries, but these type of shots remind me of modern kids movies that resort to potty humor for laughs because its easy.
Huckabee has always had it in for Romney. Maybe he is jealous that Romney’s sons are not fat and don’t like to kill dogs. Huckabee was so drunk on his “fame” that he was the last person to realize that he should drop out of the race.
go away, both of you
The preacher running on the appeal that he is a rino preacher slamming the made for the media pretty boy rino with executive hair. This is exacty the crap that led to McCain being the candidate. These two need to shut up and need to be ignored. They still believe that they matter and they don’t. They both put their personal agendas and pursuit of office ahead of what might be right for the party and the constitution.
Romney is more conservative than McCain that’s for sure. Imagine if it were Romney in those debates against Obama...
RINO vs RINO
I’ve had enough of Slugabee.
Huckabee is a crab egg on the pubes of life!
“These two guys have as much relevance as two homeless guys fighting over a cardboard box.”
I’m afraid you are very wrong. The hucksters fans are loud and donate! He will run in 2012, insuring the conservative base is split and we’ll get another Rino... And before the huckster fans start... No I won’t support the huckster, he is a Rino with a bible in his hand.
not on spending. and even huckabee was against the bailout.
Personally I don't want to see or hear anything from either of them. But that just might be my opinion!
I say nobody from 2008 should run again for 2012
Much ado about nothing.
Neither of these represent Conservatism, and neither can win the presidency.
That was hilarious but (hopefully) true. I have no intention of supporting either of these two in the primary.
The bailout sure pointed out who the socialists are in the party. The socialists include the entire misnamed “leadership”.
Campaigns are brutal. Everyone wants to win and they will play every advantage they have to become the nominee.
I like to see the behind the scenes because then we know what is really going on and how the smiles on the outside really don’t show what is going on internally with the candidates campaign.
A person who survives to be the nominee is generally tested by the process.
Huck is just terrible. What a joke. Both these guys lost to a dreadful candidate who tanked in the general election. Neither should be in the conversation for 2112 unless they do something to up their game as a national candidate in the meantime.
Romney, who I ended up voting for at least talked the talk in terms of conservatism. No one else did. I was not 100% convinced he genuinely believed everything he was saying, but the others were acting like Democrats. As someone said above, I will take the guy moving to the right over the other guys drifting full speed to the left.
Meanwhile the conservative candidates keep their mouth shut and let the RINOs fight among themselves.
Siding with a fraud? Tell me: is this your first time?
I don’t want either of these two. I hope they “destroy” each other (meaphorically speaking) before the next race even begins.
RINO Fight, RINO Fight.
Whatever. He's a jackass. Knew it from the get go. And I'm certainly not a Romney fan, but Huck is far worse. He's a Christian socialist hell bent on the 'touchy feely' crap.
He's a charlatan. Period.
If they want to truly “move the party forward” both of these clowns need to sit down and be quiet.
Remember who couldn’t even beat John McCain!
They are of the past, both of ‘em.
Huckabee would be registered at Target to decorate said box and Mitt would have an illegal sweeping the sidewalk in front of it. Obama would have given the box to Al Qaeda without a fight.
Romney is more combative, more competitive, but is not conservative by any measurement, although neither is MccAin't.
Very sad. I knew Hucksterbee was a fraud, but this is just reinforcing it.”
Huckabee is setting himself up for a major fall, IMO.
No matter what soneone thinks of Mitt as a Morman, this is just not necessary.
Huckster just doesn’t get the Republican 11 commandment by Reagan, does he.
I don’t trust Huckabee. Wouldn’t vote for him if he were the only name on the ticket.
It’s the “born agains” beating up on the Mormons.....what else is new :0)
The old guard has-beens need too make way for the new up-and-comers.
McLame and his pal Lindsey Grhamnesty are crossing the aisle to give Obama a Lewinsky and will join his global warming inititave and other big-government agenda along with the rest of the RINOS. They have their 60-seat super-majority.
Go Huckabee! Romney was McCain but without the military service, and without a pro-life or even remotely socially conservative history. No redeeming qualities, IMHO. He’d be fine in some government position where none of these things relate to his duties, but not as President!
That said, I hope none of this year’s folks come back as retreads the next time around. The GOP has a terrible tendency to run the same people over and over again, hoping at some point the electorate will forget why they didn’t like them the first time around. I like Huckabee and I’d like to see him run again, but obviously, other people don’t and the best thing to do would be to come up with other candidates altogether. Palin/Jindal!
"They're dead. They just won't lie down". (Don't know who said it first but it wasn't me.)
McCain, Romney, and Huckabee are all RINOs. To argue who is more conservative is like banging your head on a brick wall.
