U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel apologized to an Arab-American group on Thursday for comments disparaging Arabs made by his father.
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee sent a letter to Emanuel calling on him to distance himself from remarks made by the elder Emanuel in an interview with an Israeli newspaper following his son's appointment last week.
In the interview, Benjamin Emanuel was reported as saying: "Obviously, he will influence the president to be pro-Israel. Why wouldn't he? What is he, an Arab? He's not going to clean the floors of the White House." Advertisement
While some political analysts have said Rahm Emanuel, a veteran Democratic congressman, should not be held responsible for the actions of his father, there was also a sense that an apology was unavoidable

And so the freak show begins.
Guy's really stupid to kiss Arab butt for what his father has had to say or do.
This is America, and it is NOT our custom to hold the children responsible for the parents. Both the Arabs who complained and Rahm should get busy and assimilate or go back home!
One thing 0bama’s administration is going to be great at...apologizing.
Sad sack.
isnt rahm an arab????
Emanuel is an observant Jew
Emanuel dissing his dad. Hey Rahm, let him speak for himself.
now ive heard everything.
He’s what is known as “Modern” Orthodox.
Yeah, and all the stupid friggin' moronic Jewish voters who voted straight Dem party line...because it's tradition don't you know...will now be saying, "See, I told you Obama was OK." as a way to asuage their consciences.
I wonder what they'll tell themselves when Iran kills half a million in Tel Aviv in an attempt to 'wipe Israel off the map'?
The Throw Your Dad/Grandma/Preacher/Etc. under the bus administration
My thoughts exactly.
Typical white-ish person, Barack?
Pop Emanuel better watch his step, Grandma Dunham didn’t do well after her last encounter with the Obama bus
Not only is not an Arab.....
"When Bill Clinton began his campaign for presidency, he appointed Rahm Emanuel to direct the campaigns finance committee. But Emanuel left when the Gulf War broke out, in order to volunteer in the IDF".
"He served in one of Israels northern bases until the war ended, and upon his return to the US became Clintons advisor in the White House for almost eight years".
He was in the Israeli Defense Forces!
Obviously an infiltrator!
Go Benjamin! You can’t take the steel out of a Irgun Jew’s balls. I love it. At least someone in Israel still remembers why Arabs are to be hated and feared.

Excellent LOL!
Never apologize for your father. Bad form.
Rahm’s father understands the situation much better than his son does.
He is an Obamaratchik, who will morph into a kapo..a
Guess Rahm never read Jeremiah 31:29-30. Absent from schule that day?
“This is not the Benjamin Emanuel I knew.”
No he is an Israeli Jew.
Rahm missed out on a lot of Jewish stuff ~
I can’t wait until Aunt Esther and Joe the Biden start flapping their gums (well, actually I can) about this and that. The Chicago crowd ought to be good for some more cringe-making moments too.
It’s depressing, but then McLame would have been depressing to a lesser degree as well.
Why wasn’t he in our armed forces during that war? Why was he serving a foreign state?
Firstly - we weren't a combatant in that war. I can only speculate as to the answer to your second question.
Key point - he is not an Arab, he is a Jew. I assume he volunteered for service in the IDF because he is a Jew and felt he could help his people keep their country from being pushed into the sea by the Arabs.
Americans have a long history of volunteering for foreign wars - remember the "Flying Tigers"? And The Lafayette Escadrille, volunteer American combat pilots of World War One who flew for France against the Germans before we entered the war.
Whether his service in the IDF makes him more, or less, qualified to be White House Chief of Staff is an open question. My gut feel is that any military experience with an ally of the US will make him a wiser COS.
But, he's still a Democrat! So his ideology is suspect from the start!
Sorry - but I was wrong about us not being a combatant in the war Emanuel volunteered for.....I was thinking he volunteered for one of the Israeli/Arab wars.
The rest of my speculation still holds.
The question is why would he fight for a foreign state but not join AMERICAN armed forces. What does that say about his patriotism and fitness to help run the American government.
