Obama victory took root in Kennedy-inspired Immigration Act

WASHINGTON - Barack Obama's victory last week triggered an immediate accounting of debts to be paid off in constructing his new administration. There were those who speculated that Obama would be building a White House staff of loyal old Chicago hands. Others foresaw a bevy of Clintonistas. And still others had a vision of a kind of Kennedy redux that wags quickly dubbed "Obamalot."

After all, Caroline Kennedy had emerged from her shell of shyness to head Obama's vice-presidential search team, after joining her Uncle Ted on a national barnstorming tour with Obama in the days leading up to Super Tuesday. Her exertion not only signaled her enthusiasm for Obama, but also her willingness to be a greater presence in public life: Some now envision her as a possible UN ambassador.

...That generation has its roots in the Immigration Act of 1965, and the act had its roots in the Kennedys. Obamalot may be the modern reflection of JFK's New Frontier, after all.

In 1965 Teddy said:

Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA)

‘Out of deference to the critics, I want to comment on ... what the bill will not do. First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same ... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset ... Contrary to the charges in some quarters, S.500 will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and economically deprived nations of Africa and Asia. In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think. Thirdly, the bill will not permit the entry of subversive persons, criminals, illiterates, or those with contagious disease or serious mental illness. As I noted a moment ago, no immigrant visa will be issued to a person who is likely to become a public charge ... the charges I have mentioned are highly emotional, irrational, and with little foundation in fact. They are out of line with the obligations of responsible citizenship. They breed hate of our heritage.’ (Senate Part 1, Book 1, pp. 1-3)

I’m all for deporting the entire Kennedy clan back to the small Irish potato plot it once rented from English overlords. And, if I could somehow rig a time machine, I would ensure that the Kennedy principal sire was in the front ranks against the army of William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne so that his seed sank to the bottom of the river with the rest of the defeated Micks!

In the 1950s, 53 percent of all immigrants were Europeans and just 6 percent were Asians; by the 1990s, just 16 percent were Europeans and 31 percent were Asians. The percentages of Latino and African immigrants also jumped significantly.

I work in the International Terminal of an Airport several times a month.

Almost without fail, I'll encounter a person who's only English vocabulary is "Visa Lottery" and has all their worldly possessions in a burlap sack.

I guess some guy from Algeria or Bangladesh who speaks no English, can't read even his own language, has no concept of math or technology, is just going to strike out for himself, assimilate, and become a big success.

Fortunately for this motley crew, there's legions of liberals working to get them on public assistance, and then send for every last relative to come join them.

Diversity is our greatest strength.

It is a matter of being “right” They lied! They knew damn well what it would do when they passed it. They lied to the American people and unfortunately most people ate it up.

They are running with it out in the open now...

In 1965 “they” (Teddy and the democrat libs) were also saying that the North Vietnamese would peacefully reunite that country without retaliation against the South, and no dominos would fall or genocide occur in SEA

Millions of human bones lying silently in mass graves in Vietnam Cambodia and Laos (and now Burma) and under the surrounding waters...speak to that stupidity which has never been called to account...but will be by a greater power

Deliberate dilution of our founding cultural identity with people who do not share the Judeo-Christian worldview. We are committing cultural suicide in slow motion. Now that wanting to protect and preserve a cultural identity is considered a bad thing, then we have no hope of reversing this trend. The US was great while it lasted. The world will find it impossible to replace and in time will greatly regret the chaos and destruction that follows in the wake of her demise.

This piece of swill (the bill and it's author) have destroyed this country.

Also, why haven't the Kennedys been prosecuted under RICO statues? They are no more legitimate in their business dealings than the Gambino crime family.

He's correct, that is why he has backed permitting those who immigrate WITHOUT obtaining visas the opportunity to seek amnesty.

Now that right there sounds like President elect "Senator Government" and his wife and political mentors.

A man endorsed by Fat Ted for the presidency.

WoW. That's reaching.

This writer, or do they still call them reporters these days?, this writer is driven by obsession and not duty to give readers a good product.

If not, then why hasn't there been ONE story of the first Father-Son presidency in American History since John & John Q. Adams and its historical significance.
