Yes, I understand. May the Great Multicultural Paymaster raise your cap to $250,000 immediately.

Some do not pay FICA. My husband is in the old CRCS plan and he has never paid Social Security

Those in FERS do pay FICA

Anyone, anywhere, getting a 3.9% increase next year ought to consider themselves 1) very lucky or 2) goddam dirty welfare recipent/union member (sorry for the redundancy)

My husband’s business of many years recently folded. Be thankful for your blessings and your job security.

Yep.

I think all or most new hires since 1990 are under FERS.

View Pound’s post in FR Forum and you will see that the government womb has been very good for Pound.

It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that the Messiah intends to double government employment.

I’m a government contractor. You govies are a waste of money and stand in the way of progress anyway. Most of you aren’t worth it.

Interesting, that's the general opinion we have of government contractors feeding at the trough of huge government contracts.

So rhetorically asking the question, for whom would you vote for in an election?

A hypothetical conservative, who promises a smaller, more efficient government (which means that if you get to keep your job, you'll have to work to be more productive), or would you vote for a big-government liberal, who believes that government is the answer to all our questions?

Yes, you could earn more in the private sector. Each of us in that fabled Private Sector federal employees refer to when trying to explain why their salaries are too low makes at least TWICE the equivalent federal salary, the average is actually FOUR TIMES, I was just referring to the floor. And we all retire in five years, on 150% max rate. Kudos!

I once worked for a government contractor roofing the housing units on a large Air Force base.

Good lord. You don’t want to know.

Every job has a value. If you’re capped out, move on to something that pays more. You can’t hold anyone responsible if you’ve capped out.

I think you are right about the 1990 date. Mine was hired in 1982 and had the option of switching, but didn’t. Tough to tell if he made the right choice sometimes.

You are mean. Please never talk that way to a Federal Employee. You might confuse them.

What you really meant to say is that salaries in all the banks, investment groups, auto manufacturers, unions and insurance company the government has "invested in" should be capped to the federal levels.

Now that's where the bucks are, not in screwing around with long term employee pay. You cannot, in any case, balance the budget on the backs of the employees ~ even if you paid them NOTHING AT ALL, it wouldn't make a dent in the deficit ~ particularly this year.

No reason to be a hateful smartass.

My degree, my GPA, the hours I put into training, my skills at various technical endeavors, etc would fetch more on the open market rather than locked into a GS schedule. But, I’m cool with that.

I was offered a federal job right out of college, took it until something better would come along, and the years whizzed by. I’ll never be rich, but my kids have nice clothes and I can put a roof over their heads.

We all make decisions based upon what is best for us and our families. If my decision irks you, well that’s just too bad.

I noted that when I worked in the pentagon, one could tell a contractor from a government employee by their gait.

Contractors ran, government employees moved in slow motion, and left a slime trail.

People like you give federal employees a bad reputation. Thanks for reinforcing that attitude.

After years of holding back hard on COLAs, we found that we could no longer attract government emeployees in a competitive state market. We surveyed like counties and upped them to be more competitive rate last year. We exchanged a set COLA for long term contracts. We did this with the understanding that if things got tight in the budget, that Dept. heads would have to scale down and lay off employees.

With the state and feds. cutting budgets, this will be the third time we have hacked back on the budget. We are jetisoning any service not absolutely required by law, automating some procedures, raising fees to cover costs on individual services such as permitting and are about to lay off emnployees. The public will see a big change in their local government. Particularly since the Gov. seems to want to balance the budget on our backs.

What’s the name of your company? I want to know the next time I do a contractor evaluation in response to a RFP.

I hope you’re not LM or NG who raped the DHS and didn’t deliver.
